Prompts
July is going to be wet and wild, villagers. Keep an eye to the sky and hold onto your hats!
- SAVING FACE - Look at you, trying to save that goat or dog or ZALPACA that's gotten stranded in a particularly nasty storm! You're a regular hero, trudging up that cliffside or swiming across that creek! Unfortunately, the sky didn't get the memo about your heroics, and it's just opened up even more. Finishing this job just got a heck of a lot worse. Good thing someone else just showed up to help both you and your animal pal. You hope. It's possible they're just there to laugh at you.
- PANTS ON FIRE - You know what's great? When the storm breaks, the skies start to clear and everything looks sunny again. You know what's not? When the weather pushes the LYING MIST down from the mountainside while you're out trying to clean up. Hope you don't have any whoppers you're trying to keep secret!
- SINK OR SWIM - The days when it's not storming are just beautiful, and the village river is running high. There are spots out of the current that are perfect for a cool dip or lounging on the shore, but take care you don't go out too far and get swept away. Oh, and watch out for the RAINBOW CRABS, those claws are sharp.
- WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.
Texts
All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.
- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- No usernames, everyone is listed by their name
Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.

Her fingers curled around his jacket but, instead of arguing with him, she turned and followed. "Alright." Kat listened and responded to let Dante know that she was listening. "I don't know. I woke up in a fountain in the middle of the village."
She hadn't heard the animals calls before now but as they drew near they were unmistakable.
no subject
"Me too. You know Vergil's here?" It hadn't taken long to get to Kat and it wouldn't take long to get back to where he'd been, even if the rain made visibility shit. He couldn't help but mention his brother, even if he tried to move past it just as quickly. Talking about Feelings wasn't an option. "At least it's better than Limbo, right?"
no subject
A very tiny smile curved her lips. "Yes, better than Limbo." So far. "No demons."
Her eyes refocused on the baby pink? creature. They could talk when they were safe. They all needed to get out of this rain and warm up. "Is she stuck?" Kat ask, despite not knowing if the animal was a boy or girl.
no subject
Dante focused on the rain and the bleating.
"Yeah. If I slip, be ready to catch, okay?" Without hesitating, he reached up and started hauling himself up the rock face.
no subject
She looked up at Dante, set her jaw and nodded. "I will." Kat would likely fall with him and the zalpaca, sending them all sliding down the mountain, but she'd never stop trying to help.
Kat moved a little slower than Dante but she kept up a decent pace, pulling the jacket up and over her head in order to look up into the rain to see where Dante was.
no subject
He nodded at her before continuing up the rock. The rain made it slippery and he gritted his teeth as his fingers ached under the pressure he was putting on them. The baby had gotten itself on a ledge that did not have enough room for a man of Dante's size to stand comfortably. The best it granted him was room for one foot, the other hooked on his last foothold as he leaned down and tried to get the baby creature to turn around.
"Hey little guy. C'mon, don't be scared." The kid bleated pathetically, clicking as it tried to avoid Dante's hooking hand, making it no easier for him to snag. Still he managed, grunting as he pulled the kid against him, flashing a grin down at Kat.
The fraction of arrogance was costly - Dante's fingers slipped and he grasped towards it in futility as he fell backwards. The best he could do was tuck the kid up onto his chest and let his back take the brunt of the 9 or so foot fall. Dante grunted as he landed, breath knocked out of him but his grip on the kid stayed firm.. until it wiggled out of his arms.
no subject
She didn't want it to get stuck again.
"Dante. Are you okay?" She breathed hard as she tried to attend to him and stop the pink creature from bolting into the darkness. Kat had never thought she was good with animals though it seemed to sense her calm.
"I know you're hurt but we should keep moving. Somewhere out of the rain." There is worry and discomfort in her tone as she continues to slit her attention between the wounded Dante and the frantic zalpaca.
This was turning into a very interesting day, as most days with Dante seemed to go.
no subject
"Go," he wheezed, "I'm fine." Coughing roughly, he rolled onto his side, sure that Kat would take care of the kid. "Cave," he said. "Go on."
It hurt like hell and it wasn't fading. At worst, he broke a rib. At best, he was going to be aching for a day.
no subject
He was so heavy but Kat slowly began to pull him and guide the zalpaca towards the cave.
"We need to get you warm." He was insane if he thought she was going to leave him behind. They couldn't start a fire in this weather, they had no fuel, so they'd have to stay close to keep warm and if Dante lost too much body heat it'd be useless.
no subject
"Yeah. Not exactly the way I thought we were gonna get together but I'm not complaining." As soon as they were in the overhang, Dante slapped a hand against the wall and took his own weight back, turning to slide down to his ass, knees sprawled wide as he winced.
"How's the little guy?"
no subject
Kat released her grip on Dante before turning towards the young four-legged creature. It was shaking but she could tell that it was happy to be out of the storm. She gently coaxed the young creature to the ground and then shrugged off Dante's jacket to drape over it's fluff wet coat. "She's fine."
With the zalpaca settled she turned towards Dante. "Come here. Let me see your back." Vergil had told her that he was human and she assumed that it was the same for Dante. She wanted to check to see if anything was broken or had to be set back into place. Kat wasn't a doctor but she was used to treating her own wounds.
"And we need to warm up."
no subject
She was cute with animals.
The best he could manage for 'come here' was leaning up from the wall with a groan, curving his back like a question mark as he settled his arms on his knees. "Told you I'm fine. I've fallen from higher. But unless there's some wood towards the back of this thing, there's not going to be any fire. Got any suggestions?"
no subject
As she slowly worked and assessed his injuries she moved so that she was leaning over him, her shoulders gently bumping against his.
"Body heat." Kat had assumed that any wood they found would be soaked which meant that it'd be useless. The only way for them to guarantee that they weren't going to get sick was staying close together and sharing body heat. "Me, you and our friend there." She glanced back at the zalpaca. "We can use your coat as a blanket." Though it'd be more like a shield as it'd likely over very little warmth on its own.
no subject
"We're gonna cuddle?" The question came with a curl of his lips and a huff of breath that made him wince and groan. "I hate being human. I want my powers back." He turned his palms up to look at the red patches. "This blows."
But he was glad Kat was there with him. It made it better somehow.
no subject
It was going to be a little bit of a chore to keep him from hurting himself.
"I'll try not to hurt you." Though she did remember him saying that he liked it rough.
no subject
Slow, ginger movements got him down on his left side and while he tried to pull one arm up to tuck under his head, the sharp stab of pain vetoed the action, drawing a growl of protest from him.
"I call dibs on big spoon."
no subject
Her undershirt was white and wet though she didn't seem to bothered by it. The cold prickled at her arms but the scrub hadn't done a lot to keep her warm. "I'll let you have big spoon this time."
She slid beside Dante while reaching over him to grab the jacket from the zalpaca and pull it enough to cover the three of them. After a bit of shifting her back was against his front with one arm curled under her head and the other rested across her hips.
no subject
Dante patted it's butt softly in reassurance.
"If I start snoring, just remember to not elbow me."
But the silence around him had his head going with everything that had been thrown at them. "How'd you get here anyway?"
no subject
"I won't." Kat's voice was light and warm. "It'll be like have the sounds of the city to sleep to again." This world was too quiet and despite it's relative peace, the silence was unsettling.
"I don't know. I remember you and Vergil fighting and then I was waking in the well at the center of the village." She wished she knew. "And you?"
no subject
"I'm sure we can find a horn to blare at 4 am if you get real desperate." Since he normally went to sleep around 3, it meant he was only an hour into sleep and it made him grumpy.
"Do you remember how that fight ended?" No, he hadn't missed the question; it was just put on the back burner.
no subject
"Yes." Her voice was soft and pained. "I begged you not to kill him and then Vergil left."
That was the last thing she remembered and it hurt. Vergil's words had been cruel, he hadn't deserved her kindness, but Kat didn't want to see the man who had saved her die. Vergil was wrong but she didn't believe that he was a bad person.
no subject
"So right after, then.." It implied that she didn't remember them propping themselves up against each other and managing to go 'home', or what little was left of it.
"I went looking for him the next day, ya know... Went back home. To our real home. I figured he went to go see Mom's grave." A beat passed as Dante pushed away the memory of it, and the memories that flowered up out of his head when he had.
"He wasn't there, but I fell into her grave and.. out of the fountain. I figured it was a demon trick."
no subject
Kat didn't know what she'd do without him.
"Then?" She asked, shifting a bit as if she wanted to look over her shoulder and meet Dante's gaze. Kat didn't know what came next, there were the moments after Vergil had left but there was only a minute or two before she had arrived in the fountain.
"Did something else happen?"
no subject
Blue eyes held hers for a moment before he smirked. "I feel like that's telling the end of the story before you finish the movie. You sure you wanna know? Might make you blush."
He was playing with her - they'd both gone home and collapsed into the first soft, flat surface they could find, passing out for almost 24 hours.
no subject
Dante was nothing like that. She did trust him and the warm glint in his eye brought a light smile to her lips.
"I didn't think you knew how to blush." Kat reached towards him and gently brushed her fingers along his jaw before allowing her arm to rest back against her side. "Are you still worried? About what you had said before?"
I know exactly who you are.
