[Guidebook] In-Game Technology
Wrist Devices
Upon arrival into the game, all characters are fitted with a wrist device in the same color as their scrubs. This device is a means for the Observers to keep track of the character and administer biological agents such as powers, as well as a way for characters to communicate with one another and send distress calls. The device looks like this but without the buckle.
FEATURES & LIMITATIONS:
- May not be removed or altered by any means.
- The device is worn on the LEFT wrist. The only exception would be if there isn't a left wrist.
- The interface is individually tailored to be intuitive for the person wearing it. What it looks like for one person might not be the same for another, but it should be easy for the user to figure out, and all interfaces get you to the same features. This is up to player discretion, and can include features like voice recognition if needed.
- Ability to send text messages of any length, as well as record, send or save video or voice messages. All of this is shown on the device screen; there is no projection.
- If a character is in danger, their Observer may send a distress signal to all wearers with the character's coordinates. This distress signal may also be manually activated by the character themselves.
- Location is typically only included on distress signals, but as an Observer, you have the ability to send that info anytime.
- There is a clock and a date, but it does NOT show the year.
- Display names may be set to anything on the fly by the character, but they are strictly display names, and anyone else may tap the name to see a character's real full name. (Effective August 1, 2018)
General Technology
Generally speaking, all other technology in the game apart from the wrist devices is not more advanced than the Edwardian era. (About 1890-1910.) This includes items purchased with points.
There are occasional exceptions to this as designated by the mods, but they are rare, and typically offered as some sort of contest award or because a character has entered the game needing the tech as a necessity for medical reasons or the like. If you have any questions about this for your character, please ask!
