Prompts
July is going to be wet and wild, villagers. Keep an eye to the sky and hold onto your hats!
- SAVING FACE - Look at you, trying to save that goat or dog or ZALPACA that's gotten stranded in a particularly nasty storm! You're a regular hero, trudging up that cliffside or swiming across that creek! Unfortunately, the sky didn't get the memo about your heroics, and it's just opened up even more. Finishing this job just got a heck of a lot worse. Good thing someone else just showed up to help both you and your animal pal. You hope. It's possible they're just there to laugh at you.
- PANTS ON FIRE - You know what's great? When the storm breaks, the skies start to clear and everything looks sunny again. You know what's not? When the weather pushes the LYING MIST down from the mountainside while you're out trying to clean up. Hope you don't have any whoppers you're trying to keep secret!
- SINK OR SWIM - The days when it's not storming are just beautiful, and the village river is running high. There are spots out of the current that are perfect for a cool dip or lounging on the shore, but take care you don't go out too far and get swept away. Oh, and watch out for the RAINBOW CRABS, those claws are sharp.
- WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Kat released her grip on Dante before turning towards the young four-legged creature. It was shaking but she could tell that it was happy to be out of the storm. She gently coaxed the young creature to the ground and then shrugged off Dante's jacket to drape over it's fluff wet coat. "She's fine."
With the zalpaca settled she turned towards Dante. "Come here. Let me see your back." Vergil had told her that he was human and she assumed that it was the same for Dante. She wanted to check to see if anything was broken or had to be set back into place. Kat wasn't a doctor but she was used to treating her own wounds.
"And we need to warm up."
no subject
She was cute with animals.
The best he could manage for 'come here' was leaning up from the wall with a groan, curving his back like a question mark as he settled his arms on his knees. "Told you I'm fine. I've fallen from higher. But unless there's some wood towards the back of this thing, there's not going to be any fire. Got any suggestions?"
no subject
As she slowly worked and assessed his injuries she moved so that she was leaning over him, her shoulders gently bumping against his.
"Body heat." Kat had assumed that any wood they found would be soaked which meant that it'd be useless. The only way for them to guarantee that they weren't going to get sick was staying close together and sharing body heat. "Me, you and our friend there." She glanced back at the zalpaca. "We can use your coat as a blanket." Though it'd be more like a shield as it'd likely over very little warmth on its own.
no subject
"We're gonna cuddle?" The question came with a curl of his lips and a huff of breath that made him wince and groan. "I hate being human. I want my powers back." He turned his palms up to look at the red patches. "This blows."
But he was glad Kat was there with him. It made it better somehow.
no subject
It was going to be a little bit of a chore to keep him from hurting himself.
"I'll try not to hurt you." Though she did remember him saying that he liked it rough.
no subject
Slow, ginger movements got him down on his left side and while he tried to pull one arm up to tuck under his head, the sharp stab of pain vetoed the action, drawing a growl of protest from him.
"I call dibs on big spoon."
no subject
Her undershirt was white and wet though she didn't seem to bothered by it. The cold prickled at her arms but the scrub hadn't done a lot to keep her warm. "I'll let you have big spoon this time."
She slid beside Dante while reaching over him to grab the jacket from the zalpaca and pull it enough to cover the three of them. After a bit of shifting her back was against his front with one arm curled under her head and the other rested across her hips.
no subject
Dante patted it's butt softly in reassurance.
"If I start snoring, just remember to not elbow me."
But the silence around him had his head going with everything that had been thrown at them. "How'd you get here anyway?"
no subject
"I won't." Kat's voice was light and warm. "It'll be like have the sounds of the city to sleep to again." This world was too quiet and despite it's relative peace, the silence was unsettling.
"I don't know. I remember you and Vergil fighting and then I was waking in the well at the center of the village." She wished she knew. "And you?"
no subject
"I'm sure we can find a horn to blare at 4 am if you get real desperate." Since he normally went to sleep around 3, it meant he was only an hour into sleep and it made him grumpy.
"Do you remember how that fight ended?" No, he hadn't missed the question; it was just put on the back burner.
no subject
"Yes." Her voice was soft and pained. "I begged you not to kill him and then Vergil left."
That was the last thing she remembered and it hurt. Vergil's words had been cruel, he hadn't deserved her kindness, but Kat didn't want to see the man who had saved her die. Vergil was wrong but she didn't believe that he was a bad person.
no subject
"So right after, then.." It implied that she didn't remember them propping themselves up against each other and managing to go 'home', or what little was left of it.
"I went looking for him the next day, ya know... Went back home. To our real home. I figured he went to go see Mom's grave." A beat passed as Dante pushed away the memory of it, and the memories that flowered up out of his head when he had.
"He wasn't there, but I fell into her grave and.. out of the fountain. I figured it was a demon trick."
no subject
Kat didn't know what she'd do without him.
"Then?" She asked, shifting a bit as if she wanted to look over her shoulder and meet Dante's gaze. Kat didn't know what came next, there were the moments after Vergil had left but there was only a minute or two before she had arrived in the fountain.
"Did something else happen?"
no subject
Blue eyes held hers for a moment before he smirked. "I feel like that's telling the end of the story before you finish the movie. You sure you wanna know? Might make you blush."
He was playing with her - they'd both gone home and collapsed into the first soft, flat surface they could find, passing out for almost 24 hours.
no subject
Dante was nothing like that. She did trust him and the warm glint in his eye brought a light smile to her lips.
"I didn't think you knew how to blush." Kat reached towards him and gently brushed her fingers along his jaw before allowing her arm to rest back against her side. "Are you still worried? About what you had said before?"
I know exactly who you are.
no subject
"I don't," he said with a low laugh, smile getting more genuine at the touch of her fingers against his face. But the question she posed sucked some of the light out of his expression.
"About Vergil? Nah. We're safe here. Or.. were you talking about his STD?" One finger was lifted and pointed at her in question as his face broke out in a grin.
no subject
It was warmer now and Kat knew that she could likely turn over and face Dante without losing that heat but facing Dante had it's own problems; things that Kat tried very hard not to think about. The mission had to come first. That wasn't the case here but the habit had been ingrained into her.
"Try and get a little bit of sleep Dante. Hopefully the rain will let up in a few hours and we can head back to town." Where there was fire, beds and roofs.
no subject
At least his imagination was getting a workout.
"Don't know how restful it's gonna be with you running around in 'em." He curled around her a little, trying to will hormones that were getting stirred up to settle down. "'Course, we could always make body heat in other ways. Passes the time too."
Dante didn't think he'd get anywhere, but he had to try.
no subject
Her fingers reached down and gently slipped between his. Kat made sure to move slowly as she rose his hand to her lips and pressed a kiss at the center of his palm. "You're hurt Dante. I don't want to hurt you more." He had several broken ribs and a back full of bruises. What he was suggesting wasn't practical.
Kat moved his hand back to where it was but left her hand intertwined with his.
She didn't think she'd be able to sleep but she could close her eyes, rest, think of Dante and listen to the rain.
no subject
She was sweet. He didn't deserve her kindness but Dante wasn't one to shy away from something because he didn't 'deserve' it. He wanted it.
Even though it did hurt, Dante curled around Kat and the baby zalpaca a little tighter and closed his eyes.
--
Dante hadn't thought he could go to sleep but even on the ground, he'd gotten comfortable, body taking carefully shallow breaths, peppered with a soft snore that arbitrarily peaked and came with a mutter of intelligible words. The coat was pulled off them as the baby creature got off and started to amble off and out of the cave, eager to go find it's mum, however grateful it might have been for their help in the first place.
no subject
At some point in the middle of the storm she'd turned towards Dante and was curled against his side. The jacket laid on the floor near the entrance of the cave as the young creature rushed off into the day light. Kat rubbed at her eyes, inhaling a sharp breath. She had no idea what time of day it had been or how long they've been asleep but the sun was out now.
She gently shook Dante's shoulder, careful of his wounds and whispered in his ear. "Good Morning Dante. It's time to wake up." They should really get back to town before it started raining again and she wanted to have a better look at his wounds.
no subject
He groaned in protest at the shake, head rolling this way and that before he cracked open an eye at her. "Who says. Did it stop raining?" Craning his neck up to peek at the cave, he groaned again at the light. "You okay?"
Male Brain was confused as to why Waking Up was a thing.
no subject
They had no where to be but staying her would likely prove detrimental to Dante's wounds. He should lay down in a bed and she's sure that there was a free one at the inn.
"It's stopped raining and I'm fine. Your friend is gone." Kat glanced towards the mouth of the cave, already missing the cute ball of pink fluff.
no subject
God she was pretty.
"How long do you think it'll take to get back to town?"
no subject
Another few seconds passed before she carefully shifted and lifted herself from Dante's side. It felt cold without him next to her but her clothes were dry and she could feel the heat of the sun slowly warming the air. It must have been very early in the morning.
"Probably a half hour." Assuming that he didn't have any trouble walking. "We should get you to a bed. Maybe the hospital so I can take a closer look at your ribs."
