Happy anniversary, villagers! Buckle up!
- HEAT WAVE - Poor you. All you were trying to do was get yourself a little something to eat from the kitchen at the inn. Maybe you cooked it up yourself (The inn does, after all, have an electric stove — FANCY!), or maybe you just grabbed some leftovers. By accident or on purpose, you ended up with way more RED SALT in there than you maybe should have, and this is no ordinary seasoning. Whether you like things eye-wateringly spicy or not, it's August, you're sweating buckets, and it's only getting worse.
- SKUNK DRUNK - Isn't that just the way? You're out and about, minding your own business, and you get sprayed by a BROWN SKUNK. The good news? It doesn't stink like a normal skunk. The also possibly good news, depending on who you ask? You're now in for about 5 hours of being very, very friendly. (Just remember to keep the test drive PG!)
- BRAIN CANDY - Whether you made it to the anniversary party or not, you've gotten your hands on a piece of leftover candy from the big bash. Careful, though, these treats are more than meets the eye: Whatever COLOR it was, you've now taken on the associated personality traits. (Not the power, just the traits.) At least it only lasts 10 minutes.
- WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.
Texts
All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.
- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name
Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.
@aschthebloody (*fangirl screams forever* a swampthing!)
@aholland (you can thank Ca for that. <3)
[So far Alec has managed to avoid being seen apart from being on the network and a vague shape in the woods.
Things are tense enough. Knowing they had a monster among them, at least until he found a way to get his powers back...]
@aschthebloody (Ca is amazing.)
Also, Alec, my name is Asch.
[ Asch was keeping to the network himself, mostly to keep people from thinking he was a child, he was in no mood to deal with that. ]
@aschthebloody (Yes indeedy!)
Where would you like to meet and when? I've found arrowroot, yucca, asparagus, yams...
no subject
[ It's not like he could hide forever.]
no subject
The north forest entrance? I can do my best to meet you there with some samples today actually. Asparagus and Arrowroot, tubers.
[He's getting pretty good at this typing thing. Small victories Alec.
By the time the mysterious Asch arrives however, Alec figures he's nearly done then he can hide. Text him and tell him where they were, apologize, say he was called away. No one had to know. It would be easy and he could keep his secret.
It was a life or death matter.
So when he arrives might see...an 8 foot tall swamp monster built like a brick wall, stacking small leaf-wrapped packages in a surprisingly gentle manner. Completely oblivious.]
no subject
[ In his world, Asch might have been a big deal, a high rank in both sides of his life. Here, however he wasn't much. More so being just under eighteen, he got a lot of funny looks. He hated it to.
It was also strange walking around in scrubs, he was used to his god-generals uniform. It was much heavier. Asch had planned to meet this man who knew plants, and he hated being late, but he also ran on his own time. So late didn't even factor. He headed for the north woods as soon as he figured enough time had passed to allow the man to find what he needed. What he didn't expect was the 8 foot tall swamp monster.
Hello.
Being from a world of monsters his first instinct was fight, but he was unarmed much to his dismay and his fonic powers didn't work here. Also, something in him felt off, enough off that the five foot six young man with long blood red hair spoke up. ]
Are you, Alec? [ His tone both uppity and posh.]
no subject
Wait.
Instinct says run but instead he trips over his feet and falls over, nearly squishing everything he'd gathered. Rolling over to the side he looks at him, red eyes wide.
He could roar. Growl. Screw it. He's an 8 foot tall monster in scrubs.]
Don't tell anyone.
[His voice sounds like rocks tumbling down a hill through a river.
This is ridiculous Alec. You are the Avatar - You were the avatar. Straighten up. Make the plants proud...
He hangs his head.]
Please. There's a good chance they'll hunt me down and set me on fire. Strange creatures in this situation...never go well.
no subject
Don't beg, it's unbecoming.
[ Not that he was really begging. Asch was just a jerk by nature, he uncrossed his arms and to show he wasn't put off at all he walked over and kneeled down where the creature bigger than he was had tripped. ]
Your secrets safe with me, help me learn the plants and if anyone tries to burn you, I burn them. I am a god-general, I am called Asch the bloody for a reason.
[ He offered his hand over as if he could help Alec up, but even back home with his powers that would never happen. It just seemed the thing to do.]
no subject
I can do that.
[He rolls back over.] I tried to divide them in piles and color code them...I guess it's for the best we met then. I can point them out to you easier.
[The distrust is real, the set of his big shoulders, the way his hands tremble slightly. Still, the kindness the child - no matter what - showed him was worth a second look.]
...Thank you for not running away screaming. I expected that.
no subject
Good. That is all I ask for now.
[ He replied calmly as he stood back again to move and look at the piles, again, not phased to much. It was strange but, what in his life wasn't? When the monster spoke again.]
Don't mention it, I don't do the running and screaming thing, I actually judge people who do. [ It was strange, but he was starting to wonder just a few moments into the meeting if he was scarier than the 8 foot tall monster. What a life he lives.]
no subject
The ones marked with the white flowers are medicinal. Arrowroot, lavender, garlic, mint. Good for aches, pains, colds. Also ginger.
[He pulls out a squished one and sighs.] I'll bring you more ginger.
[He nods] These are edibles. Tubers- roots, you can add garlic to some of these in a stew too. They'd make a good soup I think.
[He gestures.] ...I can keep bringing them to you if you'd like.
no subject
I know of lavender, garlic and mint, we did have those in Auldrant. Granted, the ones I knew, were not often wild.
[ He couldn't help an amused noise, seeing the crushed ginger.]
A soup would be helpful, I do intend to eat which is part of why I sought knowledge. [ he was looking over them as he listened before looking up at the green man.] That or maybe, you could take me with you. Allow me to see where you gathered them.
no subject
I suppose I can show them to you. It'll take time and you'd have to dress for hiking. I live...deep in the woods. Very deep on the woods.
Good climbing shoes too.
no subject
The clothes I have on is the best I have, aside from the farming pants. And I will be fine with these boots. I have managed more in less functional gear. If you are willing, I will prove more than able.
no subject
This way then.
[The forest is deep, old. He's been exploring it for days since first arriving. Looking through moss and lichen and identifying different things for when he needs them. Or when others need them. If he can make himself useful perhaps they'll be more accepting.
It's humbling.
Perhaps in a good way though as he stops before a bank of mossy green leaves and a small running brook.]
Afraid to get wet?
no subject
He nodded then, pushing his long hair back out of his way.]
Not at all, water won't be a problem, lead the way, Alex.
handwaving some tiny thiings...?
They've been at this for a bit before he points at a patch of mushrooms.]
The thing not a lot of people appreciate is how the plant kingdom fights back. It's subtle. Most people see those and think mushroom, I can eat that right? Except the edges are frilled. It'll poison you. Plants are subtle fighters, in it for the long haul as opposed to the red kingdom, claws and fangs and quick fights. They're no less dangerous however.
[he might sound a little too into that to be honest.]
There are a number of plants that will fight back if eaten. That's why it's important to identify things correctly. And respect them.
[Says the big plant...person.]
Human beings don't respect plants enough.
<3 always good!
The mushrooms caught his attention, the dreck hated them, but Asch rather liked them. Maybe it was a bit of spite, but mostly it was how good they could be. ]
I had always wondered which would be poisonous. Thank you. [ Not that he needed to poison anyone, not yet. Who knew what the future holds. ] Do you call it the red kingdom because you are made of plants?
[ The red head asked as he looked over the mushrooms in questions.]
Tch, humans respect nothing, not even themselves.
Re: <3 always good!
[These are facts. Even if he was human at one point, he's no longer a part of that. Entirely at least. All he can do is be a good example.]
The red kingdom is the animal kingdom. Flesh kingdom. Humans and animals. Then there's mycos, the gray, fungus, and bacteria.
[He's holding something back and it might be obvious. Talking about the death leads to Abby and her role in the work they both do.]
They...exist here. I think. They must.
no subject
I am not sure what most of that is, but I would like to learn. Fungus is the only word I know, though I would assume the grey is something unpleasant? [ He ran a hand through his hair before adding.] This world is very different from my own. Everything in my world comes from fonons. Though, aren't mushrooms fungi?
[ He looked up to the other.] The other kingdoms or something else?
no subject
[He considers.] The gray is fungus. Also known as mycos. I-
[He looks at him.] I'm disconnected from them.
[He sits, staring at the plants they've collected with a look of fury, of frustration.]
In my world I was...the avatar for the green. I kept it safe. Coming here has...left me disconnected. Like losing all five of your senses.
[He waves a hand.] I don't want to feel sorry for myself. If you want to learn, I can and will teach you. Consequently I want to know about you. What's a fonon?
no subject
[ He nodded as he takes a seat next to him. Listening and looking at the plants of and on as the other spoke.]
Mycos... [ He repeated committing it to memory.] I assumed you had some connection to the plants, given how you look and the way you speak.
[ Asch looked from his boots on out at the vast green around them. ]
Your not the only one, my abilities are gone as well, it is like something stripped away that can't be replaced. [ he couldn't hear his dreck of a replica's voice in his head anymore.] I don't feel sorry for you, I feel something like it for all of us though. Being pulled from our homes and lives to this place, it is unsettling.
[ He reached out then running his hand over the grass around them.] I beleive people here call them elements, but take the earth and plant life, that is the second fonon. There are seven fonons, darkness, earth, wind, water, fire, light and the seventh, sound.
[ he explained with a slight shrug of his shoulders before looking upto the tree tops.]
no subject
He shakes his head at the "I'm not sorry" comment but ignores it.]
Without me, the green is defenseless. The plants are defenseless. To say I'm concerned is an...understatement.
I am sorry for what has happened to you.
no subject
[ He spoke, it was actually kind of sad, maybe his would would have been better if they had someone who just protected the plant life. The miasma might not have been so bad.]
Tch, on the list of things that has happened to me, losing my power is not even an issue. Fonic ability is simply a short cut.
[ He was bothered, but he tried not to show it. He was more bothered by the lack of pain, he was so used to the pain that it being gone felt wrong. Like he paid a price that he doesn't know.]
Well, maybe you can protect the green of this world now.
