Prompts
- SNOW BLIND - It's snowing, a lot, and pristine landscape though it might create, it also brings plenty of problems, especially when you live in an Edwardian-style village with a serious lack of snow shovels. It's currently blizzard conditions and visibility is nil — Maybe you gave in and ducked into the nearest house for temporary shelter, and discover someone else had the same idea (or just lives there, oops). Maybe you're stubborn enough to still be out in it, struggling against the wind and snow. Or maybe you've tromped into the South Village Inn like a human popsicle, and are just hoping you don't lose any fingers before you make it to the fireplace.
- JUMPED-UP - Winter's here, which means it's the perfect time for an expedition to warmer, southern climes. You've joined a group following the river all the way down to the far southern beach, for fun and for science. On this latest break in your journey, you've spotted a large, jewel-colored feather and picked it up, maybe as a specimen to bring back or just a feather for your cap. Turns out it's an archaeopteryx feather, and you're now, well... let's call it a little gravity-challenged. Not a bad benefit once you figure out how to control it.
- COLD CALL - The snow has slacked off, leaving behind a winter wonderland. Sure, there's plenty to do, but after being cooped up inside for days, most people won't blame you for a morale-booster — That is, unless your way of starting a snowball fight is to pop up and throw them at unsuspecting passers-by. Making a snow man or snow angels might come with a little less retribution, but you do you.
- WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

"Hi," he said after a moment. Still shivering. "Uh, you live here?"
no subject
But he's not attacking yet, and they're both cold. She gives her head a shake to dislodge the snow collecting in her braided hair. "Yeah. I do. You need something?"
It's a casual enough conversation but her feet are going numb and she's not setting her spear aside yet.
no subject
No, sarcasm is a bad choice, but... Please can he just warm up? Or tell him where the next house is.
no subject
But that's not it, a moment later the front entrance opens and she steps aside to motion him in. She's still got her spear with her, just in case. "Come on in, there's a fire. You want some tea?"
no subject
Note to self for the future, don't go with sarcasm when you need rescued. Didn't work for his sister much, should have learned that lesson before. For now he does wrap his arms around himself and turn to get moving to the next house.
Then the woman is back, and yeah, he gives her his best 'thank you, you're my hero' smile.
"Thanks. I won't be in your hair long if you want me gone. Just warm up my extremities. But a cup of tea would be really nice."
no subject
She heads into the kitchen to get the water started heating and pulls down a couple mugs. Her spear is set aside, but still in easy reach.
"What were you doing out, anyway?"
no subject
"Trying to find shelter," he replied honestly as he sat down near the door, his back against the wall. He doesn't know her, he won't give her his back. Seems the feeling is more or less mutual. "The storm came up on me pretty suddenly. I was exploring, trying to figure out where I am."
no subject
Hell, had he found her that first week she may actually have never answered the door at all.
"I guess it did come on pretty fast." She looks out the window where the snow rushing by at an angle, dancing madly to the shriek of the wind. "Maybe it'll blow out fast, too."
It's not you, North; she doesn't like being homebound. The water boils and she pours it into the cups with the tea strainers and brings them over. She doesn't comment on his decision to sit by the wall - on the floor no less - simply handing him his mug and then going over to a chair that's already pulled close to the fire. "I'm 7, by the way. My roommate Eddie and Venom are out right now, they probably won't be back until morning."
no subject
Sorry, there are basic defensive things here, and for right now, until his legs are a bit more stable, he wants to be able to see you coming. There is no one else there to watch his back anymore. The loss aches in his chest to think about, and he accepted the cup, holding it against his chest. The heat is good for his fingers as well as other pains.
"I'm... You can call me North Dakota. Are you sure your friends are safe out there?"
Clearly he heard her wrong. Roommates was what she meant.
no subject
"I ... don't know. They haven't been hunting in weather like this before, but they need to eat. I've never seen weather like this before, but Eddie has. They should be alright."
Her words are more for comfort than born of actual conviction. "Have you seen weather like this before?"
no subject
"Yeah, back on my home colony," he repeated with a tone that said he was telling her this for the first time, clearly. "Pretty cold, winter was rather long. Pretty much had to expect blizzards as a fact of life. Got to learn how to use snowshoes one year."
oh oops XD sorry about that
"Snowshoes? They're not ... shoes made out of snow, are they?" She couldn't imagine how that would even work. "I guess I'll have to get used to it, if it's not going anywhere."
nah, North needs that potential to resist being an ass.
"They're shoes made of wood and leather or cord to allow you to walk on top of snow, rather than through it. But yeah, you're going to be in this snow for a bit."
No doubt they will need to dig out to some degree. Unless they have said shoes.
