2. It cannot be the character's arrival into the game.
3. Please only test new characters who do not have a version in the game. Our cast list is here.

→ TDM threads cannot be used to meet AC, but if the character is accepted into the game and both players agree, you may keep the CR.

Prompts

  1. SNOW BLIND - It's snowing, a lot, and pristine landscape though it might create, it also brings plenty of problems, especially when you live in an Edwardian-style village with a serious lack of snow shovels. It's currently blizzard conditions and visibility is nil — Maybe you gave in and ducked into the nearest house for temporary shelter, and discover someone else had the same idea (or just lives there, oops). Maybe you're stubborn enough to still be out in it, struggling against the wind and snow. Or maybe you've tromped into the South Village Inn like a human popsicle, and are just hoping you don't lose any fingers before you make it to the fireplace.

  2. JUMPED-UP - Winter's here, which means it's the perfect time for an expedition to warmer, southern climes. You've joined a group following the river all the way down to the far southern beach, for fun and for science. On this latest break in your journey, you've spotted a large, jewel-colored feather and picked it up, maybe as a specimen to bring back or just a feather for your cap. Turns out it's an archaeopteryx feather, and you're now, well... let's call it a little gravity-challenged. Not a bad benefit once you figure out how to control it.

  3. COLD CALL - The snow has slacked off, leaving behind a winter wonderland. Sure, there's plenty to do, but after being cooped up inside for days, most people won't blame you for a morale-booster — That is, unless your way of starting a snowball fight is to pop up and throw them at unsuspecting passers-by. Making a snow man or snow angels might come with a little less retribution, but you do you.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

"Well, you know, it's cold out, there's a white out blizzard, and I'm half worried I'm going to lose my hands, but no, just came by to tell you that the Home Owners Committee thinks your grass is too long."

No, sarcasm is a bad choice, but... Please can he just warm up? Or tell him where the next house is.

The problem isn't so much sarcasm, but the fact that he's talking to someone who has no concept of HOC. 7 gives him a curious look, "The grass is covered in snow." How long was it supposed to be anyway? She shakes her head after a moment and turns back to return to her room, closing and locking the door behind her.

But that's not it, a moment later the front entrance opens and she steps aside to motion him in. She's still got her spear with her, just in case. "Come on in, there's a fire. You want some tea?"

Great job, North. Really blew that one there. Apparently the joke didn't even land with her response. See, York would have laughed, accused him of being old for making a joke like that, and brought him inside. But York isn't here.

Note to self for the future, don't go with sarcasm when you need rescued. Didn't work for his sister much, should have learned that lesson before. For now he does wrap his arms around himself and turn to get moving to the next house.

Then the woman is back, and yeah, he gives her his best 'thank you, you're my hero' smile.

"Thanks. I won't be in your hair long if you want me gone. Just warm up my extremities. But a cup of tea would be really nice."

"Just don't try anything and you'll be fine." She's keyed up; staying inside because the weather is so bad, but Venom still needed to hunt and eat daily, so they're out in it and she worries.

She heads into the kitchen to get the water started heating and pulls down a couple mugs. Her spear is set aside, but still in easy reach.

"What were you doing out, anyway?"

Don't joke, North. He has to remind himself not to joke around. This one doesn't seem to handle that well. Just, you know, given her way of standing there, keeping the weapon close at hand, he's going to consider her like Carolina. Just Carolina later into the program, where her sense of humor almost seemed surgically removed.

"Trying to find shelter," he replied honestly as he sat down near the door, his back against the wall. He doesn't know her, he won't give her his back. Seems the feeling is more or less mutual. "The storm came up on me pretty suddenly. I was exploring, trying to figure out where I am."

Fortunately, he's just caught her during an off-moment; the people here have done much to mitigate her initial wariness.

Hell, had he found her that first week she may actually have never answered the door at all.

"I guess it did come on pretty fast." She looks out the window where the snow rushing by at an angle, dancing madly to the shriek of the wind. "Maybe it'll blow out fast, too."

It's not you, North; she doesn't like being homebound. The water boils and she pours it into the cups with the tea strainers and brings them over. She doesn't comment on his decision to sit by the wall - on the floor no less - simply handing him his mug and then going over to a chair that's already pulled close to the fire. "I'm 7, by the way. My roommate Eddie and Venom are out right now, they probably won't be back until morning."

"Used to see things like this back on my home colony," North observed, frowning as he looks toward a window. "Something like this could last a while."

Sorry, there are basic defensive things here, and for right now, until his legs are a bit more stable, he wants to be able to see you coming. There is no one else there to watch his back anymore. The loss aches in his chest to think about, and he accepted the cup, holding it against his chest. The heat is good for his fingers as well as other pains.

"I'm... You can call me North Dakota. Are you sure your friends are safe out there?"

Clearly he heard her wrong. Roommates was what she meant.

"North Dakota." She nods, not seeming to find anything odd with the name. When he mentions her friends, she glances out the window for a moment before curling further around her tea.

"I ... don't know. They haven't been hunting in weather like this before, but they need to eat. I've never seen weather like this before, but Eddie has. They should be alright."

Her words are more for comfort than born of actual conviction. "Have you seen weather like this before?"

Theta would ask North if she didn't understand the first time, should they phrase it differently? His twin would snark her for ignoring him the first time he spoke. North just spared a polite smile while he sipped his tea and resisted the urge to roll his eyes.

"Yeah, back on my home colony," he repeated with a tone that said he was telling her this for the first time, clearly. "Pretty cold, winter was rather long. Pretty much had to expect blizzards as a fact of life. Got to learn how to use snowshoes one year."

oh oops XD sorry about that

[personal profile] to_defend 2019-01-20 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Once 7 hears him, she realizes he's already given her the information. She stiffens slightly, but he's given her the grace of not calling it out so she'll continue in that vein.

"Snowshoes? They're not ... shoes made out of snow, are they?" She couldn't imagine how that would even work. "I guess I'll have to get used to it, if it's not going anywhere."
duel_wielding: North Dakota and Two Snipers (Default)

nah, North needs that potential to resist being an ass.

[personal profile] duel_wielding 2019-01-20 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Funny enough, that isn't the first time North's had that particular question asked of him. In fact, he chuckles and shakes his head. Like Wash in that sort of way.

"They're shoes made of wood and leather or cord to allow you to walk on top of snow, rather than through it. But yeah, you're going to be in this snow for a bit."

No doubt they will need to dig out to some degree. Unless they have said shoes.
