Prompts

  1. SNOW BLIND - It's snowing, a lot, and pristine landscape though it might create, it also brings plenty of problems, especially when you live in an Edwardian-style village with a serious lack of snow shovels. It's currently blizzard conditions and visibility is nil — Maybe you gave in and ducked into the nearest house for temporary shelter, and discover someone else had the same idea (or just lives there, oops). Maybe you're stubborn enough to still be out in it, struggling against the wind and snow. Or maybe you've tromped into the South Village Inn like a human popsicle, and are just hoping you don't lose any fingers before you make it to the fireplace.

  2. JUMPED-UP - Winter's here, which means it's the perfect time for an expedition to warmer, southern climes. You've joined a group following the river all the way down to the far southern beach, for fun and for science. On this latest break in your journey, you've spotted a large, jewel-colored feather and picked it up, maybe as a specimen to bring back or just a feather for your cap. Turns out it's an archaeopteryx feather, and you're now, well... let's call it a little gravity-challenged. Not a bad benefit once you figure out how to control it.

  3. COLD CALL - The snow has slacked off, leaving behind a winter wonderland. Sure, there's plenty to do, but after being cooped up inside for days, most people won't blame you for a morale-booster — That is, unless your way of starting a snowball fight is to pop up and throw them at unsuspecting passers-by. Making a snow man or snow angels might come with a little less retribution, but you do you.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Cold Call

Rinoa loved the snow. It reminded her of hot drinks and slipping around and pretending everything was okay for a little while. She didn't often get this much of it, and it was warm out when she was taken from her world, but she was adjusting. The biggest adjustment was wearing coats and making sure everything was covered. She was used to wearing gloves now because of her peakitten, but still. Brrrr!

She was walking around minding her own business when she got pelted by a snowball. She gasped and looked around to see who did it. Definitely not Squall, she could never imagine him playing this much, but she had other friends who would make mischief. Instead she peered and spotted .... "President Loire?" Rinoa was clearly surprised, putting her hands on her hips. She didn't know him that well, but after a few moments she laughed. He was so intimidating back when things were going so wrong in her life, but if he threw snowballs? Maybe he wasn't that scary. "What are you, ten years old?" She teased.

Laguna was having a lot of fun with this; sure, he looked silly, but he didn't care that much. But when he heard Rinoa addressing him with that title, he stopped mid-throw. "No, no, no need for that. Just Laguna is fine." Well, he liked the title and everything, but he didn't need people to be so formal around him. He couldn't hold back the chuckle when he saw her place her hands on her hips.

"Maybe I am secretly ten. Maybe I just look like I should be in an office or something, not out here throwing snowballs." And speaking of snowballs, he let loose with another one. Scary? Him? Never.

"Ohhhhh." Rinoa paused. "I'm not ... I don't usually call people like you by their first name." She blushed but luckily her face was already pink from the cold. "By people like you I mean authority figures." She was the daughter of a general. Of course he trained her from a young age to honor people with titles. She may have disobeyed him and rebelled in other ways, but that was against her father. She had a much harder time pushing back against authority figures who weren't related to her.

She dodged the snowball and smiled at him, and for a moment anyone who ever met Julia Heartilly would see exactly how much her daughter resembled her. "You do look like you should be in an office. Or a big meeting room!" With all the other important people. But, well, who was she to argue with a president? She reached down to make a snowball and threw it at him, immediately moving after it was in the air to start making more. Her speed was an advantage for sure!
