Prompts

  1. STAYING POWER - Go down to the bunker, they said. You can get yourself amazing powers from the vending machine, they said. Well, you've done that, and you've made your choice, but one thing nobody told you was that unless it's a power you're familiar with, you might be on a teensy bit of a learning curve when it comes to keeping it under control. You have a week to figure it out without killing anyone; have fun!

  2. FORGIVE AND... - You poor thing, you've gotten into some dust moths. Not that you can remember that, because depending on how big that swarm was and how quickly you got out of it, you might not remember much at all. Better hope somebody's got some Forget Me Nots on hand.

  3. HIT & RUN - Life in the village can be pretty sleepy... until suddenly, it's not. Were you being a troublemaker? Were you disturbing the local wildlife? Because it's now disturbing you, chasing you down the street in front of everyone. Maybe it's a herd of chupapaca or a swarm of fireflies. Or maybe you went old school and it's just a really pissed off badger. Godspeed and good luck.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Texts

All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.

- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name

Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.

Hit and Run

Settled in outside the Inn, kicked back in a chair he's dragged out from inside, Faraday finds himself rather enjoying life in this place. The clothes are a bit odd, though he rather like the jeans he "borrowed" from the store room, and he's without a hat, but so far no one is trying to kill him, and the tobacco that some just put out for free ain't so bad.

It's a pretty good place all in all.

Right until some crazed lady with a spear comes running at him ruining that perfect image of no one trying to kill him.

Leaping to his feet, he grabs the chair, spinning it around to hold it in front of him like a lion tamer's shield.

"Now hold up there. I don't know what you think I did, but I didn't." Because defending himself from whatever it is he quite possibly did is important.

"Flee, you fool-" Inside wouldn't suffice, not from the bloodthirsty creatures nipping at her heels. She has room enough to drive her spear point first into the ground and heave, hefting herself up onto the awning above Faraday. After half a moment's thought she leans down, offering him a hand up. "Stay and be their next meal if you like."

Or.

Take her hand and climb to safety.

"Hey, I take offense..." Well he might be a fool but he stops, watching as she vaults onto the roof. Okay, that is fairly impressive. Especially for a girl.

Glancing back, new enough not to be sure why they're fearing them, but also new enough to know his luck is that they drink blood or something.

"Well, shit." He reaches up, taking her hand and planting his boot against the side of the building to use the two to scramble up the building. "What are those things?"

helafine: (Starting from scratch)

Hauling him up is more difficult than it ought to be- but then so too is much of her newfound, enfeebled existence. "I thought them deer, but these? Eat flesh. They'd made a corpse of a croc-dog when I came upon them."

Not one she'd been hunting with, but a hound none the less. Retribution would be hers...once she' certain it won't get her killed.

[personal profile] onesyllable 2018-10-11 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"A croc... you mean those giant lizard looking things that keep coming up like they're friends? Those are pets?" He thinks of dogs that way, but those...

"People around here are a bit odd about animals." And he's sticking to that theory.

"So, uhmmm... what're we gonna do about them from up here?"

helafine: (I'm building with my body and soul)

[personal profile] helafine 2018-10-20 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"They're benign enough. Sweet tempered, I shouldn't expect them to be much good as a hunting hound." She'd thought, perhaps, about training one up for it but this? Proves it would be a futile task.

"What else do you do from a vantage point?" She hefts her spear, eyeing the swarm as it rounds about. "Thin the herd."

[personal profile] onesyllable 2018-10-22 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Benign. Giant lizard dogs are a lot of things, but not benign." Even if he's not entirely sure what that word means, but he has a good guess from how she's talking hunting dogs for them.

"Yeah, that would mean having my gun would be nice, but I don't," he says, which is crankiness at that and not at all for her. "How you going to take out more than one with that thing?"
helafine: (Raise up your walls)

[personal profile] helafine 2018-11-05 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Playful, perhaps, but not aggressive." Head cocked she waits, watching the herd come around a turn, heading back in their direction. It's a tightly bound group and if she waits just long enough- "Wait for the proper moment. They're lining up."

Herd mentalities can do more harm than good on occasion.

[personal profile] onesyllable 2018-11-07 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, he is measuring giant by means of them being way larger than any lizard he knows, and way more annoying than any dog. At least at this moment.

He folds his arms over his chest, staring at her for a long breath. "Okay, I'd like to see this," he says, giving her a nod. "Go for it."
helafine: (And I will rise)

As she's said, they've lined up in a tidy cluster- from this angle, the heft and haft of her spear- it isn't as fluid as a throw from a weapon she could conjur; but her aim is sure, the spear pining four of the devils into the ground as the pack splits and makes for the hills, leaving their fellows to die-

Or at least until the scent of blood bids them return.
