Test Drive 21 (October & November)

Test Drive
→ Holds and applications are always open. Holds are required for all applications.

→ Choose one of the scenarios below or make up your own. Feel free to try multiple scenarios.

→ Write LOGS or TEXT prompts, or both.

THERE ARE ONLY THREE RULES FOR THE TDM:
1. It has to take place in the 6I universe.
2. It cannot be the character's arrival into the game.
3. Please only test new characters who do not have a version in the game. Our cast list is here.

→ TDM threads cannot be used to meet AC, but if the character is accepted into the game and both players agree, you may keep the CR.

Character want ads are here.

Prompts

  1. STAYING POWER - Go down to the bunker, they said. You can get yourself amazing powers from the vending machine, they said. Well, you've done that, and you've made your choice, but one thing nobody told you was that unless it's a power you're familiar with, you might be on a teensy bit of a learning curve when it comes to keeping it under control. You have a week to figure it out without killing anyone; have fun!

  2. FORGIVE AND... - You poor thing, you've gotten into some dust moths. Not that you can remember that, because depending on how big that swarm was and how quickly you got out of it, you might not remember much at all. Better hope somebody's got some Forget Me Nots on hand.

  3. HIT & RUN - Life in the village can be pretty sleepy... until suddenly, it's not. Were you being a troublemaker? Were you disturbing the local wildlife? Because it's now disturbing you, chasing you down the street in front of everyone. Maybe it's a herd of chupapaca or a swarm of fireflies. Or maybe you went old school and it's just a really pissed off badger. Godspeed and good luck.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Texts

All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.

- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name

Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.

I was a general for longer than your people have existed. I was made into a thing to be used in battle, fought for millennia.

It is not something I can set aside easily like a blade in a broom closet.

Basil-

[Wait, no. That's plant growth, not fur. Alex's face goes through a series of expressions- none of which are terror. In fact, he looks a little relieved. If the plant person knows his name, and is not actively trying to kill him, that makes the plant guy a Good Sign. An obviously not-human person who isn't in the midst of a fight for their life means there are no Covenant operatives on the survivalist compound his family calls a home.

He lowers the hand holding the knife, and speaks very, very calmly.]

I see you know my first name. You'll have to forgive me, as I have no memory of meeting you or how I came to be sprawled out on the forest floor in what I'm quickly coming to realize is not my parents' backyard.

[The absence of fricken calls is intensely disquieting for him, the normally ever-present background noise here is so very different from the Pacific Northwest that he's used to that it's dipping well into a more literal interpretation of "uncanny valley."]

"Alex?"

Natalia has a vested interest in all things healing, and as such has always been curious about Alex's work. There are so many resources here that could be tapped if they just knew more about them.

His lab, though, is never this quiet. She looks around in awe.

"I thought maybe you'd packed up and left."

Antivenom takes a lot of venom to produce. So there are a lot of snakes. Many, many snakes. Or snakebats in this case.

"Hey, you might want to keep a distance. I'm about to start milking the fever-snakes," he says in greeting, before actually addressing what she says. Lab safety: more important than being polite.

"Indulging in the rich scientific tradition of self-experimentation. The animal empathy seemed like a natural choice," he says, grabbing a hooked tool to reach in to grab the limply docile snake. He gently eases its jaws open, and hooks the top fangs over the edge of a fresh collection flask.

"It's still going to take me a few months to get enough venom to start the process of making antivenoms, but it does look like this will speed it up significantly, if I can keep a reasonable level of access to the drugs."

[personal profile] our_promise 2018-09-30 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
She shudders at the thought. Snakebats are one thing, but a fever-snake could kill you. Which only makes the antivenom more important, but she's glad he's the one doing this work and not her.

"Self-experimentation? You used the- what was it called? Vendor-machine? Isn't that a little dangerous?"

He handles the creature with a comfortable ease. What he knows of this thing's venom is scary, but taipan venom is still scarier, and they have one of those at the zoo back home. Admittedly he usually gets the assistant who's immune to venom on account of being a reptile herself.

"Probably, but but far more ethical than testing them on someone else. And safer still than my alternative for antivenom. Thank Grandpa Thomas for bringing O-negative into the family." He frowns a little. "I may still have to take that route, if the refrigeration fails. In which case I might need you and/or Dr. Banner on hand."

The princess huffs, putting her hands on her hips to glare at him.

"Don't think I'll help if you poison yourself."
cryptoherpetology: (Default)

[personal profile] cryptoherpetology 2018-10-01 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Alcohol is a poison, we just injest it in small enough quantities to usually keep from killing ourselves," Alex says, calmly closing the snake back in its enclosure after emptying its venom glands.

"Exposing myself to micro-doses over an extended period will be a risk, but it's a tried-and-true method of treatment in places without reliable freezing methods- which if we ever lose power for any period of time, we will be," it's a calm, simple explanation.

He stops to reorganize some of his tools, murmuring something about "missing the Mice." The capital letter is kind of audible, somehow. He'd gotten so used to having Aeslin assistants when it came to some of the more mundane scientific tasks. Sorting biological samples had been a form of religious observance for his splinter colony, the way choreographed ballroom numbers were for Verity's, and the mice beginning to form specific worship of Antimony were kept far, far away from firecrackers lest they get ideas.

[The calm done, the knife. He got hit by one of those moths. The first thing he'd done upon arriving had been cataloging the plants with the help of his assistants and the other scientists - but it had taken Alex to note the connection between the moths and the plants. At least to him.

He shifts the plants across his chest and arms, an instinctive reflex, before he gestures.]

No. I'm afraid this isn't your compound. Something has happened, and it might be shocking. My name is Alec, we...worked together. Here.

Hit & Run

[personal profile] unraisehell 2018-10-01 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Wynonna had been in the tree branches for exactly that reason. Deer, even tiny bloodsucking deer, could not climb trees to her knowledge. There were other things here that could, certainly, and she'd cleared her branches of the dangerous ones as she sat in wait. At least for these deer, a full blind wasn't necessary, they couldn't see that far up.

Several crossbow bolts beat Wynonna to the deer as she launches herself from the tree. She skips that 3-point Superhero Landing in favour of rolling into the fall to bleed off the inertia, and trampling a couple deer in the process.

Up close, the crossbow is less accurate and less reliable for targets this small. A hiking boot is much, much more effective. The sounds they make are close enough to the baby deer sounds she's used to from home to almost feel bad about it.

"I really hated Bambi anyway."

[ Alex nods at this idea without too much hesitation. He already works with a woman with snakes hidden under her wig, a plant guy can't be that different. ]

Right. OK. Where is here, and why aren't the frickens chirping?

"No, just used to having a half-dozen or so very very tiny assistants tidying for me as I work," he admits. "I'm going to have to actually start looking for a lab assistant."
