Prompts
Happy anniversary, villagers! Buckle up!
- HEAT WAVE - Poor you. All you were trying to do was get yourself a little something to eat from the kitchen at the inn. Maybe you cooked it up yourself (The inn does, after all, have an electric stove — FANCY!), or maybe you just grabbed some leftovers. By accident or on purpose, you ended up with way more RED SALT in there than you maybe should have, and this is no ordinary seasoning. Whether you like things eye-wateringly spicy or not, it's August, you're sweating buckets, and it's only getting worse.
- SKUNK DRUNK - Isn't that just the way? You're out and about, minding your own business, and you get sprayed by a BROWN SKUNK. The good news? It doesn't stink like a normal skunk. The also possibly good news, depending on who you ask? You're now in for about 5 hours of being very, very friendly. (Just remember to keep the test drive PG!)
- BRAIN CANDY - Whether you made it to the anniversary party or not, you've gotten your hands on a piece of leftover candy from the big bash. Careful, though, these treats are more than meets the eye: Whatever COLOR it was, you've now taken on the associated personality traits. (Not the power, just the traits.) At least it only lasts 10 minutes.
- WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.
Texts
All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.
- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name
Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.

But she slid easily from a defensive stance to ducking down, with the fluidity of practice and someone who was well trained. Ty only had a moment to be impressed before the utensils zoomed over her and towards him, picking up something from the woman. It looked like something far heavier and dangerous looking than even the kitchen shears, and Ty's eyes widened slightly as he recognized them. Were those brass knuckles?!
Using hand and arm motions not unlike an air traffic controller, Ty tried to get the utensils to go back towards the house, his efforts mostly in vain.
"I'm not trying to take anything!" He retorted, a bit harassed sounding. While he may be many things, a thief had never been one of them. "I'll try to get this to slow down so you can grab it."
no subject
Glancing around, trying to find something wood and sturdy. Finding only a bucket and muttering under her breath as she picks it up. Anything for the time being until she has a chance to think of something better.
"Okay one, you need to get yourself shielded behind something," she snaps, glancing back and ducking as something goes sailing over her head. "And then you're going to have to try and get focus to stop this. Were you this dangerous at home?"
Knowing that most were without their gifts here, and thankful for it because of some who could be even more dangerous than they already are, but has yet to see a gift be given like this to someone without the skills or knowledge to use it.
"How did you not die?"
no subject
"Working on it." Ty glanced around the empty houses around them, before heading towards a small stool that was left lying by a nearby house. It wasn't great, but it would do for now, and like some medieval knight with a laughably small shield, he started using it to fend himself from the utensils. "This is the first time this has ever happened to me. I mean, I've been told I've had a magnetic personality but this-"
He knocked away a few more utensils, circling around them warily like they were a flock of very sharp metallic birds.
"It wasn't this bad this morning! Does this go away soon or something?"
no subject
Swinging the bucket, something thunking into the side of it, sticking with a vibration that went through her arms. Damn, she is going to feel that through her shoulder for a while.
She manages a dry laugh at that, but glances his way a minute, considering. She's heard of things, but never seen it happen personally. Not that she's been there all that long.
"Yeah, I think it will. I've heard of others coping with it, picking up this or that from the things others in this place have," she says, only sparing him glances as she watches the surrounding area. "You should get further away from the buildings. Out towards the woods, away from the village and you should get out of range of anything metal,' she points out, giving a jerk of her head.
"You a good runner?"
no subject
"Not a bad idea." He paused, sparing a glance at his aid in this crusade, trying to make sure he would remember her face.
"Maybe I'll do that. Would you be able to keep up, or better yet, what's your name? I'll come find you later to return your wicked looking metal knuckles."
no subject
"If it wasn't that I don't plan to leave you in the dust, I don't think keeping up is a problem," she taunts, keeping her sense of humor in the face of this. Dark as it might be sometimes. "But it's Ashley, and you better. Spent the best part of a day on the anvil making those," she admits, giving him a wink.
"How about this. Make a run for it, and I'll cover your back. Maybe with some time to focus you can find control. You know, in case it sticks." Hey! She has no idea how things in this place work, she's just glad for the power dampening because of family members she has in this place.
no subject
He let out a breathless laugh at her sharp retort, sparing her a quick look. "Well when I have this under control, we'll have to see about that. It's a pleasure to meet you Ashley. I'm Ty."
And while running away from a bunch of kitchen utensils was definitely not glamorous, Ty was willing to take it at this point. He set the stool back down carefully, mentally willing the utensils to drop where they were or to at least slow down. With a small wave to Ashley and a here goes nothing, he turned on his heel and started sprinting towards the woods. He heard a few more ominous crashes and things breaking, but he resisted the urge to look over his shoulder, focused on his goal instead.
no subject
Taking a breath, she steps back and gives him a nod.
"If you die, sorry." And she means it. She can't do much more without a clue what it is, or a place to hold anyone with an abnormal behavior. So she can try and help, and make sure he doesn't take a spoon to the neck and end up paralyzed.
And so she does what she promised, and ensures that at least he gets a fair shot in the forest. A few things try and give chase, but after a time the metal stops moving and she finally gives up, dropping the bucket and starting to gather the pieces to drop in the sink of the inn.
no subject
But a promise was a promise, and after getting some directions from some of the other villagers, he headed over to where Ashley was last seen, waving his hand in greeting.
"Hey, thanks for your help earlier!" He held open his palm to show the metal knuckles, grimacing apologetically. "You might have to take it back. My control still isn't perfect."
no subject
When she sees him again, she's outside a small house down by the river, working on putting a few things together. Glancing up, she offers a smile and a wave as she straightens from where she's been repairing part of the porch. It's not exactly the work she's been trained for but she's quick to catch on.
"Aren't you a man of your word. Not always used to that," she says, taking them from him with a wide grin and sliding them into her back pocket. "Thanks. I know everyone thinks things should be fine here, but not used to being so..." She chuckles. "Naked. How it feels."
no subject
"Are you expecting to have to use these a lot here?" Considering that Ty hadn't been here that long, if there was trouble he was curious about it. He'd mostly been worried about eating something he wasn't supposed to or waking up back in the tubes again without any memory as to why.
no subject
She shrugs, hands on her hips as she considers that. "Maybe? I don't know. No idea what we'll need, but weapons are entirely common, and putting together what I can is important. From whatever is out there, and what people here can be. I mean, no offense, but I don't know you and I don't know others. I'd rather not be unarmed, wouldn't you?"
no subject
He raised his hands up to show he wasn't going to argue with that sentiment, grinning. "No offense taken. That being said, you have a fair point. Weird metal powers aside, I don't have much in the way of protection. If you want to hammer out another set of those, would you let me know?"
He paused, glancing at the house it looked like she was working on, thoughtful. "In exchange, I'll help you out if you'd like."
no subject
"Sure. I can do that. Only because you didn't skewer me," she teases, grinning. "And because, I don't know, I don't get the feeling you want to kill me. I can usually tell." And not just because a lot of things have tried to kill her, her father included.
"Oh I plan to take you up on that. I am probably going to snag a house for myself, and when I do I could use a hand getting it serviceable."
no subject
He had to laugh at her teasing, the tension easing out of his shoulders. "It was a struggle, but in the end I decided it would be pretty unsporting to try to murder someone who was unarmed with kitchen shears." But what kind of life had she led that she had to be able to tell that people were trying to kill her? Probably a question for another time.
"Well, I owe you for today. So feel free to come see me any time. I can't promise I'm the best, but I can be handy."
no subject
Because that is a good thing to know, and really makes her wonder about Druitt then. Not a promising sign.
"Trust me, I will take full advantage of that offer," she teases with a grin.
Is this good to start wrapping up?
Though it sounded a bit like he was biting off more than he could chew, he had to grin back.
"Well as you've seen, I'll keep my word. If you need me, I'm in the yellow house by the fountain."
Works for me
She holds up her hands though.
"Not now though. Just... for your sake. Okay?" Because that worries her more than thinking he was born this way. She's known the world that way. Gaining them? It could overload a person.
"I'll come by soon and we'll talk about it, and thanks for my knuckles back."
