Prompts

  1. SNOW BLIND - It's snowing, a lot, and pristine landscape though it might create, it also brings plenty of problems, especially when you live in an Edwardian-style village with a serious lack of snow shovels. It's currently blizzard conditions and visibility is nil — Maybe you gave in and ducked into the nearest house for temporary shelter, and discover someone else had the same idea (or just lives there, oops). Maybe you're stubborn enough to still be out in it, struggling against the wind and snow. Or maybe you've tromped into the South Village Inn like a human popsicle, and are just hoping you don't lose any fingers before you make it to the fireplace.

  2. JUMPED-UP - Winter's here, which means it's the perfect time for an expedition to warmer, southern climes. You've joined a group following the river all the way down to the far southern beach, for fun and for science. On this latest break in your journey, you've spotted a large, jewel-colored feather and picked it up, maybe as a specimen to bring back or just a feather for your cap. Turns out it's an archaeopteryx feather, and you're now, well... let's call it a little gravity-challenged. Not a bad benefit once you figure out how to control it.

  3. COLD CALL - The snow has slacked off, leaving behind a winter wonderland. Sure, there's plenty to do, but after being cooped up inside for days, most people won't blame you for a morale-booster — That is, unless your way of starting a snowball fight is to pop up and throw them at unsuspecting passers-by. Making a snow man or snow angels might come with a little less retribution, but you do you.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Cold Call

Rinoa loved the snow for short periods of time, but for the really intense storms she stayed cozy and warm on the inside, content to ride it out. But then it cleared up and she ventured out, a little bit of cheer in her heart looking around and admiring the beauty of the aftermath. Even if it meant she was drudging through the snow to get to the inn. Instead she spots a familiar tall form from a distance and smiles. Rinoa's plans can be delayed to go and see what Irvine was up to. They had an interesting background, and she respects him greatly.

"I can't say I'm surprised to see you shooting arrows, or being good at it, in lieu of a gun." Adjusting to the technology downgrade wasn't an easy one. She missed so many of the things they took for granted at home. Mr. Stark was working on her new weapon, hopefully, but she probably had to train on something new until then. "A marksman can handle anything, right?" A little teasing.

Irvine gives her a smooth smile (and it's surprisingly genuine; it reaches his eyes for once), and a wink. "Not just any marksman-- I'm just that good."

All joking aside, Irvine counts his blessings-- he learned to hunt with a bow before ever picking up a rifle, so the downgrade of technology wasn't as much of an issue for him. Bows and guns were very different in all the ways that count. Not that he says as much. Irvine trudges through the snow towards Rinoa after fetching the practice arrows, and putting them back into the quiver. She may not have a weapon right now, but he's not going to let stand in the way. This was a perfect opportunity until Rinoa gets her new one. Irvine respects her, too. Way too much to let anything happen to her if he can help it.

"Wanna check out a bow your size and give it a try?" Irvine asks, nodding towards the targets.

Rinoa laughs, her eyes crinkling as her smile grows, and she winks back. She wouldn't deny that he is handsome and smooth in his way, but she's also seen him become a fool around Selphie and that's honestly cuter than anything suave he could do. "I'm pretty sure shooting with a bow and arrow requires a different set of muscles than holding and shooting a gun. But this is coming from someone who uses projectiles."

The offer makes her eyes widen and she looks over to the targets and then over at him. It's been offered before, but things have been intense lately and she didn't think to try them out. But now? Sure. It's Irvine. She's not so worried about seeming ignorant of archery around him. "That would be great! But you can't laugh at me or I'll push you."
