Prompts

  1. SNOW BLIND - It's snowing, a lot, and pristine landscape though it might create, it also brings plenty of problems, especially when you live in an Edwardian-style village with a serious lack of snow shovels. It's currently blizzard conditions and visibility is nil — Maybe you gave in and ducked into the nearest house for temporary shelter, and discover someone else had the same idea (or just lives there, oops). Maybe you're stubborn enough to still be out in it, struggling against the wind and snow. Or maybe you've tromped into the South Village Inn like a human popsicle, and are just hoping you don't lose any fingers before you make it to the fireplace.

  2. JUMPED-UP - Winter's here, which means it's the perfect time for an expedition to warmer, southern climes. You've joined a group following the river all the way down to the far southern beach, for fun and for science. On this latest break in your journey, you've spotted a large, jewel-colored feather and picked it up, maybe as a specimen to bring back or just a feather for your cap. Turns out it's an archaeopteryx feather, and you're now, well... let's call it a little gravity-challenged. Not a bad benefit once you figure out how to control it.

  3. COLD CALL - The snow has slacked off, leaving behind a winter wonderland. Sure, there's plenty to do, but after being cooped up inside for days, most people won't blame you for a morale-booster — That is, unless your way of starting a snowball fight is to pop up and throw them at unsuspecting passers-by. Making a snow man or snow angels might come with a little less retribution, but you do you.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

In all honesty, it was just a general greeting from a man following in Maine's broken trail in a blizzard. Nothing to really boggle over. Except the guy wasn't moving now. That was frustrating. With a sigh Nida looked up. And up. And up. And other than a brief smirk as he thought 'well that explains the good trail' he didn't seem bothered by what he saw.

"You gonna keep going?" he asked, once more though chattering teeth. Because he would like to get inside. If not, he'll forge his way around the man.

Ah. The greeting was for the sake of politeness, not because the stranger wanted anything. (And it says something, too, that Maine didn't recognize that.) Curiosity fading, the Freelancer glances down at the armful of wood. Back up to the stranger's face, catching the smirk preceding his question.

Maine's not sure what to make of the expression. Doesn't know what prompted it. Curiosity having faded, his own face is impassive as he considers his answer.

The easiest answer, of course, is to turn and keep moving. But Maine's thinking about the armful of wood. Thinking about the cooperation that seems to be required for survival here. Thinking about the fact that this smirky stranger walked up and greeted him for no reason at all.

After a moment, Maine speaks. His voice is deep and rough, sounding a bit like a growl even as he enunciates his words.

"Need help?"

Was that an offer? Well he is definitely jumping at that offer. Granted he would be quite content if the man just kept walking, because it's cold, and Nida doesn't do cold very well. But for now, whatever will get him inside in the warmth sooner will work.

"Yeah. It nothing else can you head down the path more? Because I'm heading for the inn."

It is indeed an offer. One made after a good deal more consideration than most people would require, but an offer nonetheless. And, when the stranger takes him up on it, Maine nods in understanding.

If Nida lets him, Maine will take a good chunk of the wood (read: most of the wood) from Nida's arms. Then he'll turn and continue his way towards the inn.

While the Freelancer doesn't make a deliberate effort to clear the path, he doesn't really need to: his size takes care of it whether he means to or not. As long as Nida sticks close, he'll have a relatively easy trek and avoid the majority of the wind. The only downside may be hearing Maine's low growling when a particularly strong gust of wind sends a fresh wave of cold through him.

Growling really didn't bother him. Right now Nida was walking lighter, with a clear path forming in front of him, and slightly less wind? He'll happily take this for all it's worth. Which is a lot actually. Doesn't even feel the need to speak up. And as they reach the inn Nida clears his throat. Just in case the guy doesn't know it.

Can they go in and throw all this on the fire at once and be warm now? Not necessarily together?
