Prompts

  1. SNOW BLIND - It's snowing, a lot, and pristine landscape though it might create, it also brings plenty of problems, especially when you live in an Edwardian-style village with a serious lack of snow shovels. It's currently blizzard conditions and visibility is nil — Maybe you gave in and ducked into the nearest house for temporary shelter, and discover someone else had the same idea (or just lives there, oops). Maybe you're stubborn enough to still be out in it, struggling against the wind and snow. Or maybe you've tromped into the South Village Inn like a human popsicle, and are just hoping you don't lose any fingers before you make it to the fireplace.

  2. JUMPED-UP - Winter's here, which means it's the perfect time for an expedition to warmer, southern climes. You've joined a group following the river all the way down to the far southern beach, for fun and for science. On this latest break in your journey, you've spotted a large, jewel-colored feather and picked it up, maybe as a specimen to bring back or just a feather for your cap. Turns out it's an archaeopteryx feather, and you're now, well... let's call it a little gravity-challenged. Not a bad benefit once you figure out how to control it.

  3. COLD CALL - The snow has slacked off, leaving behind a winter wonderland. Sure, there's plenty to do, but after being cooped up inside for days, most people won't blame you for a morale-booster — That is, unless your way of starting a snowball fight is to pop up and throw them at unsuspecting passers-by. Making a snow man or snow angels might come with a little less retribution, but you do you.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Daniel hadn't had much interaction with Howard Stark. Everyone knew who he was and what he did since he made sure of that, but other than reading a few briefing notes on whether Stark might or might not be selling things to the Reds, Daniel didn't know the man.

"There are two of them? Oh good," he said dryly.

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-06 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Did you honestly think the Stark name would die out so easily?" Peggy can't help but tease, given that with the number of women that Howard had slept with, it's genuinely more of an incredible thing that he hadn't sired more children along the way.

She gives Daniel a warm smile, enjoying the very thought of them interacting together. "Don't let him get to you and you'll be fine."

"Well, that's just good advice for life in general," he agreed. There were rumors about Peggy and Stark, but there were rumors about any woman and any man. He knew that already, and she didn't talk about Stark like she was interested in him. He didn't know who she was interested in (if anyone, after Captain Rogers), but he didn't think it was Stark.

He was actually a little warmer now, and his cane didn't feel like a block of ice.

"You know if they've got any coffee or anything around here? I could get us both a cup, just like at the office."

Well, maybe better than at the SSR.

"Normally, I'd tell you to get your own, but you did just come in from a storm." Pushing the blankets slowly away, Peggy rouses to her feet, heading for the kitchen to start working on fetching something for him. "Don't think this is going to be a habit," she calls in warning over her shoulder, as she collects all the items she needs.

"Milk? Honey?" she calls, because luckily, the local animals have at least provided them the bare necessities.

He didn't laugh at her getting herself out of her blanket fort, and he thought for a second about fighting her on this since he'd just said he'd do it. She was already up, though, and he tried not to be so prideful he was stupid.

"If it's coffee, just black. If it's tea, little bit of honey. Thank you," he replied, and took the chance to kind of wiggle his prosthetic into a better spot while she wasn't looking.

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-09 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
There's no coffee on hand, so tea it will have to be. She hates to dip into her own stores, but luckily this is the excess she gives to the inn (which also means that it's far from the best stuff, but it will do the trick).

Soon enough, she's back with a cup for him, setting it in front of him. "So, what would you like to know about this place or the people?" she asks, because there must be something, she's sure.
ssrsousa: (a little worse for wear)

[personal profile] ssrsousa 2018-12-10 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," he said, and then picked the cup up to hold his hands around it, warming them. A fire, a cup of something warm -- how many nights had he spent with those two things in France and Belgium?

"I've got more questions than I know how to explain. Everything from why are we all here to what's the story with the little thingies on our wrists."

She works her way back under the blankets with a little work, balancing the cup of tea in her hand so that she doesn't spill any, careful not to make a mess as she gets back under. "The devices? They're new," she says. "When I got here, the first village, we didn't have them, then we all woke up in a bunker like place and they were there."

"I suspect they're to track us, but they also seem capable of messaging and other items," she admits, not sure what to make of that.
ssrsousa: (Default)

[personal profile] ssrsousa 2018-12-11 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
He still wasn't gonna laugh, even when she reversed that whole burrowing thing so that she got back into her blanket fort.

"Huh. Just what I always wanted -- to be tracked everywhere I went," he replied sarcastically. "Too bad for them that I'm a real boring person."
womanofvalue: (still so young)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-11 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"For now, but you never know when they're going to equip you with powers," Peggy advises, because if she had to describe all the things that have happened to her since she's arrived here, she'd run out of breath.

Besides, he's wrong. "You're far from a boring person, you know," she says, with a roll of her eyes. "You're one of the most interesting men I've ever met."
ssrsousa: (Default)

[personal profile] ssrsousa 2018-12-11 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I'll skip that, thanks. Last thing I need is to suddenly, I don't know, start being able to see through walls."

Seeing in the dark would have been useful in France, but he'd skip seeing through walls. He didn't know quite what to say when Peggy said he was one of the most interesting men she'd met, so he didn't say anything.
womanofvalue: (fond)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-11 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
"It's more walk through walls," she points out, and it should be a joke, but she's deadly serious. She's seen the people wearing a certain colour be able to simply shift through as if it had been nothing.

She reaches over to lightly squeeze his hand, when he doesn't respond, because Peggy thinks it's crucial that he understands she means it. "You're not boring," she reiterates. "I've met boring. You're not it."
ssrsousa: (Default)

[personal profile] ssrsousa 2018-12-12 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Let's skip that too," he amended, and held up his crutch. "Bet this thing wouldn't come with me, and then where would I be? On the other side of a wall without it."

He was a little uncomfortable with her squeezing his hand and telling him he wasn't boring. He just didn't know her that well, although it was nice of her to say that.

womanofvalue: (close up)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-12 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that would be a rather dismal thought and Peggy defers to that with a rueful nod. "You might be right," she concedes, even though it takes quite a lot for her to admit that perhaps she doesn't have the whole of the story.

The look on his face after, though, well, that's slightly unnerving and disappointing. She'd hoped they could continue from Los Angeles, but it seems she's got some work to do. "Let's keep you in one piece, then." She withdraws her touch completely.
ssrsousa: (being snarky)

[personal profile] ssrsousa 2018-12-14 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Too late for that," he joked. It was just habit to deflect comments with humor at this point, even with people he liked, and that one was just right there. He couldn't really not make the joke.
womanofvalue: (sunshine)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-14 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Untrue," she quips, going along with it, because she might not know him intimately well, but she feels that they're friends enough. "We just lost the other one, but you're still all connected," she says, gesturing to him.
ssrsousa: (Default)

[personal profile] ssrsousa 2018-12-15 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It was good that she took the joke and ran with it. He didn't like, want, or need pity from anyone, especially from her.

"Anything else I should know about this place?" he asked. It was open-ended enough that she could tell him about people, places, events, whatever.
womanofvalue: (on the warpath)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-16 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"That device on your wrist gives you powers," she says, as if she's simply giving a rather matter of fact detailing about how life is. It's odd, but she's grown used to it. "There's also a vending machine that will allow you to purchase powers."

"It seems they want us to be extraordinary and no serum necessary," she says, thinking of how much hard work went into Erskine's serum and now it's simply as easy as pressing a button.
ssrsousa: (Default)

[personal profile] ssrsousa 2018-12-16 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't need any powers -- I'd settle for coffee," he quipped. "Although I bet the younger Stark has tried to take apart his wrist thingie to figure out how it works."

Starks were Starks. Geniuses, all of em.
womanofvalue: (considering)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-16 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"If he could get it off, I'm sure he would, but they're stuck." It's odd to have them after so long in that simulation without them, but Peggy's grown used to it now. "I'm afraid my ability is quite boring, so I don't often use it, though it's come in handy during a storm like this."

"It shows me the best path," she explains. "Handy for awful weather and rescuing people, not so much for your everyday use."
ssrsousa: (being snarky)

[personal profile] ssrsousa 2018-12-16 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure coulda used that skill in France or Italy," Daniel agreed. "Especially since I was one of the fellas who was in front of everyone else making sure it was safe for them."

He'd never talked about where and how he'd served with Peggy, but he wouldn't have put it past her to look up her coworkers files and see his service record in there. He'd looked up his coworkers' files, after all. Krzeminski had served at the Navy Yard in Brooklyn the whole war and he still acted like he'd been at the front lines.
womanofvalue: (close up)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-17 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Any of their skills would have been most effective during the war, but what's past is past, which she doesn't want to spend too much time thinking about it. "You're still here, so you did a good job with it," she assesses.

"I could have used some invisibility or the ability to slide through walls, but I don't have that here either," she maligns, though it would have made some of her missions much easier.
ssrsousa: (Default)

[personal profile] ssrsousa 2018-12-21 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
He'd done a decent job at it, although not perfect, as the shrapnel scars on his back would prove. His leg had just been bad timing, not a bad path, so he didn't blame that on anything except the Jerries.

"Yeah, that woulda made a lot of things easier. Real easy to sneak up on HYDRA if you can go through a wall or walk past them all invisible."
womanofvalue: (stiff upper lip)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-12-21 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Even better if you suddenly had the ability to bubble and shield yourself from bullets," she says, but no, her power is only to track them down and decide on the best course. She's stubborn enough to think that she already had that handled.

"It still doesn't help with everything here," she admits. "We're still rats in someone else's maze."
