Prompts

  1. SNOW BLIND - It's snowing, a lot, and pristine landscape though it might create, it also brings plenty of problems, especially when you live in an Edwardian-style village with a serious lack of snow shovels. It's currently blizzard conditions and visibility is nil — Maybe you gave in and ducked into the nearest house for temporary shelter, and discover someone else had the same idea (or just lives there, oops). Maybe you're stubborn enough to still be out in it, struggling against the wind and snow. Or maybe you've tromped into the South Village Inn like a human popsicle, and are just hoping you don't lose any fingers before you make it to the fireplace.

  2. JUMPED-UP - Winter's here, which means it's the perfect time for an expedition to warmer, southern climes. You've joined a group following the river all the way down to the far southern beach, for fun and for science. On this latest break in your journey, you've spotted a large, jewel-colored feather and picked it up, maybe as a specimen to bring back or just a feather for your cap. Turns out it's an archaeopteryx feather, and you're now, well... let's call it a little gravity-challenged. Not a bad benefit once you figure out how to control it.

  3. COLD CALL - The snow has slacked off, leaving behind a winter wonderland. Sure, there's plenty to do, but after being cooped up inside for days, most people won't blame you for a morale-booster — That is, unless your way of starting a snowball fight is to pop up and throw them at unsuspecting passers-by. Making a snow man or snow angels might come with a little less retribution, but you do you.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Altaïr is white among white, the expanse only broken by his boots and his face - and his hand as he flings the handful of snow that, barely compacted, hits and flutters apart into nothing. Not even a convincing impact. But he looks smug before he turns to run again.

"Are you even trying, Altaïr?" Malik chides, keeping his footing in the snow with some grace as he twists to scoop up a chunk from a convenient pile.

"Or have you skills fallen by the wayside on your vacation here?"

"My skills need polish, I'll admit," he called, "but that is why I have you!"

Disappearing around the corner of a building, Altaïr knew there was no such thing as hiding his tracks in this snow - not until and unless he crossed a more well-traveled path. But why would he want to hide when he can lead a merry chase instead?

"It is a poor day indeed when Masyaf's Mentor runs from me!"

Malik eyes the roof of the next building, as well as the available hand and foothold before grinning to himself and veering towards it. There's just theright placement of brickwork and windows to get him up, and while it's probably obvious that he's gotten up there between the few snowy footprints on the wall it's not obvious which way he'll come down.

If he even does yet.

It feels like everything he's missed.

Of course, the rooftops are not flat enough and they are too far apart. There are no beams to hop between, no hay carts to break his fall. But he is being chased by someone with the same skills as he, taunted by a familiar voice, and when he closes his eyes, he can almost believe he is in the village again, the ring of weapons in the practice circle, Rauf calling orders to his students--

And for once, the ache is a good feeling.

"I would not wish to offend your delicate temperament, Dai!"

"My delicate sensiblilities?" Malik laughed from the roof, settling down in to a crouch and listening for Altair to move closer to the building. He has plan that mostly involves shoving snow down off the roof on him while laughing and trying not to fall himself.

The unfortunate thing about snow is that it is nigh impossible to move through it with complete silence. There is always a crunch, a faint squeak almost, as it compacts underfoot. Even for trained Assassin feet, there is a sound.

And for Altaïr, who has not walked far in snow for a very long time, it is even more trouble than it would normally be. He bites his lips, takes care with each step, but still it crunches as he rounds the corner, staying unfortunately close to the building's wall. Calling out now is giving away his position - as if he cared so much if he was found.

"How many novices tiptoed around you, trying not to raise your ire?" he teased. Many likely wouldn't hear the amusement in Altaïr's voice, but he trusted it would be obvious to Malik.

"I thought they were practicing moving quietly." Malik responded easily, letting himself slide down the roof a few feet in order to shove the snow down while laughing.
