Prompts

  1. SNOW BLIND - It's snowing, a lot, and pristine landscape though it might create, it also brings plenty of problems, especially when you live in an Edwardian-style village with a serious lack of snow shovels. It's currently blizzard conditions and visibility is nil — Maybe you gave in and ducked into the nearest house for temporary shelter, and discover someone else had the same idea (or just lives there, oops). Maybe you're stubborn enough to still be out in it, struggling against the wind and snow. Or maybe you've tromped into the South Village Inn like a human popsicle, and are just hoping you don't lose any fingers before you make it to the fireplace.

  2. JUMPED-UP - Winter's here, which means it's the perfect time for an expedition to warmer, southern climes. You've joined a group following the river all the way down to the far southern beach, for fun and for science. On this latest break in your journey, you've spotted a large, jewel-colored feather and picked it up, maybe as a specimen to bring back or just a feather for your cap. Turns out it's an archaeopteryx feather, and you're now, well... let's call it a little gravity-challenged. Not a bad benefit once you figure out how to control it.

  3. COLD CALL - The snow has slacked off, leaving behind a winter wonderland. Sure, there's plenty to do, but after being cooped up inside for days, most people won't blame you for a morale-booster — That is, unless your way of starting a snowball fight is to pop up and throw them at unsuspecting passers-by. Making a snow man or snow angels might come with a little less retribution, but you do you.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Kassandra of Sparta | Assassin's Creed

Snow Blind

As much as she may wish it not to be the case, Kassandra is Spartan. This means she is used to the cold, or that she was, as a child. Living on Kephallonia had taught her to be used to warmth, though, and this is the sort of weather you might find at the top of Mount Taygetos, but not down in the valley.

In short, Kassandra is freezing. Even the long, warm open tunic thing -- a coat, did they call it? -- that had been in her bag when she'd arrived does little against it. She misses the warm sun of the isles. Kassandra is shivering as she fights against the storm to get back to the village, and when she sees the first building loom up out of the snow, she runs for it, and bursts through the door.

"Oh! I did not realize anyone was here, I only wanted to get out of the cold."

She doesn't, however, make any move to leave. It's warmer in here.

Wildcard

After the better part of a lifetime spent with a constant companion, Kassandra can't get used to being alone. Not being solitary; she's been that since Mount Taygetos, since she'd been rejected by her father and her community. But being alone, without Ikaros' presence and the reassuring ruffle of feathers through air as he glided down to perch on her arm whenever she stilled for long moments.

Perhaps it's too soon to try finding another companion, but she's choosing not to think about that. Instead, she's trekking through the woods, looking up at trees and wondering what her best chance of finding an immature bird to befriend would be. It's too late in the season for there to be any fledglings to adopt, but maybe with time she could form a close enough bond to gain the trust of an adolescent.

By the gods, she wishes whatever fate had brought her here had brought Ikaros as well.

"It's fine, just make sure to close that," Nida answered.

It wasn't his house, so he really wasn't that bothered. He'd apologize to whoever lived here later, because someone clearly did from the wood he had found stacked near the fireplace. Wood that he was currently stacking right into the fireplace, preparing a fire.

"I'll have this going in a moment. If any of what you're wearing is wet you should wait until I've got this and then pull it off to dry near the fire. Only makes it worse, wet clothes."

"Agreed. We do not wish to invite the cold inside." It would have defeated the purpose of bursting into the first house she found to get out of the sudden storm. She probably should have been wiser about going out in that sort of weather, but she was still not used to the fact that she no longer had an eagle's eyes to rely upon for scouting.

"I think the ... coat," she said, a pause before the still-unfamiliar word as she tested it in her head, "kept the worst of it off."

Her hair was wet, but she could hardly take that off.

She shut the door with a good deal more care than she'd opened it, and stepped further into the house, crossing her arms across her chest for a little more warmth.

"It appears I was fortunate to choose this house."

"Maybe don't count your blessing yet," Nida shrugs. "Once I get this started then..."

At last a spark from the starter he'd found and yep, the kindling is catching. Thank goodness. Now hopefully the flue here was serviced before the winter came because he's got it open and it feels like it's pulling properly. Look, the twigs are even catching. Looked like he managed to remember his survival training and how to light fires without spells. If he ever got back home he was going to owe Instructor Samson dinner.

"Okay, bad luck didn't strike this time. We won't freeze just yet."
