Prompts

  1. SNOW BLIND - It's snowing, a lot, and pristine landscape though it might create, it also brings plenty of problems, especially when you live in an Edwardian-style village with a serious lack of snow shovels. It's currently blizzard conditions and visibility is nil — Maybe you gave in and ducked into the nearest house for temporary shelter, and discover someone else had the same idea (or just lives there, oops). Maybe you're stubborn enough to still be out in it, struggling against the wind and snow. Or maybe you've tromped into the South Village Inn like a human popsicle, and are just hoping you don't lose any fingers before you make it to the fireplace.

  2. JUMPED-UP - Winter's here, which means it's the perfect time for an expedition to warmer, southern climes. You've joined a group following the river all the way down to the far southern beach, for fun and for science. On this latest break in your journey, you've spotted a large, jewel-colored feather and picked it up, maybe as a specimen to bring back or just a feather for your cap. Turns out it's an archaeopteryx feather, and you're now, well... let's call it a little gravity-challenged. Not a bad benefit once you figure out how to control it.

  3. COLD CALL - The snow has slacked off, leaving behind a winter wonderland. Sure, there's plenty to do, but after being cooped up inside for days, most people won't blame you for a morale-booster — That is, unless your way of starting a snowball fight is to pop up and throw them at unsuspecting passers-by. Making a snow man or snow angels might come with a little less retribution, but you do you.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Snowblind

Adjusting to mortal life has been no easy task, but he's since learned of cold weather clothing - and, as such, Thor's got on two sweaters, a heavy coat, two sets of long underwear underneath his trousers, and two pairs of socks inside of his boots. He also has on a scarf and a hat, leaving him looking less like Thor and more like a vomited pile of various yarn crafts come to life. This thought entertains him, and he might venture forth from the Inn while making some of his own "yarn monster" sounds, tromping through the wintry fury currently taking over the village.

He lets out a couple of small, quiet giggles at this, all of which are quickly swallowed up and muted by the raging storm. He'd never shared Loki's Jötunn blood, but he'd never been quite as sensitive to something as simple or as ordinary as snow.

Mortal bodies: continuing to be The Worst.

He's about to head back towards his cabin when he catches sight of a vague human-like shape looking rather lost. Given how he feels under so many layers of clothing (which is to say: still freezing), he can only imagine how frigid the other person must be. He drags his feet through the piling white around him until he reaches the stranger, and it's only when he nears that he sees it's none other than Loki.

"Brother! Look, I'm the Yarn Monster!" He holds both hands up like a bear and makes a complementary roaring sound. Another quiet chortle as his hands come down. "What are you doing out here? You should be inside!"

It's hard to miss a great hulking figure coming towards him, even in these conditions. Or, at least, hard to miss when the figure in question is less than a stones throw in front of him and wrapped in what appears to be every strand of yarn in the village. Were Loki anyone else, he might have trouble recognizing Thor under so many layers but after centuries spent seeing Thor done up in more ridiculous trappings than even this, it would be impossible to miss recognizing him even without the familiar boom of Thor's voice over the din of the storm.

Once, not so very long ago, Thor's ridiculous humor and warm disposition despite the unfavorable conditions around them would have roiled something like acid in his chest, and now--

Well. Perhaps too much has happened in the last few years, certainly within the last few weeks, that seeing his brother in good spirits and in one piece couldn't inspire anything but a small flicker of relief even as he rolls his eyes at his Thor's antics.

A yarn monster. Honestly.

"What a novel idea, Thor. Certainly I would have never come to it myself." There's only half as much sting in his words as there might have been otherwise and he'll blame the weather for that too if he can get away with it. It's dreadful out and not even subtly angling himself so that the bulk of Thor can shield him from the worst of the wind makes much of a difference. "It seems only fitting that you ought to lead the way to safety, then."

A beat.

"And, perhaps, generously gift me with your coat until we're inside as well."

"C'mon. Admit it. It had you frightened for a second!" Thor says, putting his hands up back in the air to give an encore his performance. "Eh? Eh??" Both hands go down only for a part of his bundled self to bend out and tap him. An elbow, presumably, though it's hard to tell with so much fiber craft clinging to his imposing form. Without realizing, he's also positioned himself to try and stand between his brother and the wind. There isn't much he can do about the snow at large, but he can at least be a shield for his smaller, weaker, less sustainable brother.

Hehe.

"But then I wouldn't have a coat," he retorts, voice muffled from the scarf. He does think to take the hat off his head - a bright yellow beanie to match the scrubs he'd come in with - and yanks it down over Loki's head. He does shed his coat, but not to give it to his brother - instead, he tugs off one of the two sweaters he's wearing - also bright yellow - tucks it between his knees to allow himself to put his coat back on, and then looks at Loki expectantly. "Arms up."

Of course, Thor could just as easily have given his brother his coat, but ... it's more fun to disrupt the "witch aesthetic" that Loki seems to favor in order to turn him into a knitted banana instead.

"Absolutely beside myself in terror, certainly." His tone is as flat as his expression, carefully crafted resignation creeping into his voice, but the exasperation reflected in his eyes is blunted more than it probably should be. The worst thing he could possibly do is let Thor think he's being discouraged but it's hard to be properly annoyed when he's being nudged good-naturedly by a sentient crafting experiment gone rogue.

Until, at least, Thor tugs an abomination of a hat over his head without warning and Loki is blinded by a garish sea of yellow yarn.

He more annoyed that it's welcome, if he were pressed into true honesty, because certainly the sudden warm protection over his ice bitten ears is better than not having it at all, but that doesn't mean his glare is any less sharp once he pushes up the rim of the hat enough to level it Thor's way.

Arms up, as if he's a child needing help being dressed.

Thor should count himself lucky that Loki's been stripped of his daggers.

"Give me the sweater."

In contrast to Loki's scowl and very clear dagger-death-stare, Thor is grinning very much in the way a Golden Retriever-turned-human might. If he'd had a tail, it'd be wagging with glee.

Part of it is because he knows he's helping his brother, and though they'd said their piece to each other in the elevator on Sakaar, and though Thor had more or less come to grips with letting his brother go, the truth of the matter is is that he'll always care. Thor had meant it when he'd told Loki that he'd thought the world of him. It didn't matter where Loki had come from, or the sorts of troubles he'd gotten into. They were - are - brothers, and as such, Thor takes joy in the ability to help Loki, even in small ways.

And then part of it is, of course, because he's being a complete jerk about going about helping his brother, and there's a definite triumph in that. He easily could've handed over the hat, handed over the coat, handed over whatever else he could manage to spare, but .. this is so much better.

"C'mon, arms up," Thor asks again, holding the sweater up enticingly. "Do you want the sweater or not, brother?"
