Prompts
- STAYING POWER - Go down to the bunker, they said. You can get yourself amazing powers from the vending machine, they said. Well, you've done that, and you've made your choice, but one thing nobody told you was that unless it's a power you're familiar with, you might be on a teensy bit of a learning curve when it comes to keeping it under control. You have a week to figure it out without killing anyone; have fun!
- FORGIVE AND... - You poor thing, you've gotten into some dust moths. Not that you can remember that, because depending on how big that swarm was and how quickly you got out of it, you might not remember much at all. Better hope somebody's got some Forget Me Nots on hand.
- HIT & RUN - Life in the village can be pretty sleepy... until suddenly, it's not. Were you being a troublemaker? Were you disturbing the local wildlife? Because it's now disturbing you, chasing you down the street in front of everyone. Maybe it's a herd of chupapaca or a swarm of fireflies. Or maybe you went old school and it's just a really pissed off badger. Godspeed and good luck.
- WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.
Texts
All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.
- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name
Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.
Re: Forgive And ....
Rinoa.
The name came to him and Nida actually managed a brief, relieved smile. At least there's someone here who could help him figure this out. The weight that came with the name told him that she wouldn't be out here if it wasn't relatively safe. With that assurance, not that he could entirely say where it came from, Nida adjusted the pack over his shoulder, shifted to dangle his legs over the edge of the branch, and thought about the drop.
Something told him that he could manage the fall, and really he wasn't equipped for climbing down nearly as easily as he had managed up. Trust that instinct, he told himself, hasn't led him wrong yet. With a swing of legs he let himself fall, tucking into a roll before hitting the ground. Just like that he was rolling back up onto his feet to look at Rinoa.
"Possessing the high ground is pretty tactically sound," he shrugged off her question, mostly because he didn't have much to explain it beyond that. There were more important questions anyway.
"This... may be a weird question but, where am I?"
no subject
She was surprised at first, giving him a puzzled look. "You're on the island, remember? The village is just over there." Rinoa wondered for a long moment if he'd been sent back and this was a new Nida, but no, looking at what he was wearing and holding that seemed very unlikely. "Where we live with Squall. Are you sure you didn't bump your head?" He would have definitely fallen out of the tree if he did that though, but she was very concerned.
It was unfortunate it took this long for her to pick up on it, and she slapped a hand to here forehead. "I'm so stupid." There really was no excuse. "Do you remember anything about little moths? They might have fluttered in your face and made you cough?" Rinoa glanced around. She did not see any now, but she knew that they could be found around here. "They live here and they have this ability to make people forget things. Squall and I got caught in them early on, it was awful." They had more reason than most to struggle with memory loss and start to panic. And they had no idea what it was.
"I think there is a cure for it, but I don't remember what it is. We might have to go back to the inn to find out."
no subject
"Yeah," he confirmed, looking back at her with more confusion on his face. Moths that could make someone forget things, was that even possible? A few flashes of memory, of creatures that were beyond conventional explanation like something called a Blobra, made him nod at Rinoa.
"Moths that make you forget things. And you don't remember how to not forget."
Not the most ridiculous thing, and she had given him an answer that gives him something to do other than climb a tree and wait for more information. That was something he could work with. Would work with.
"You look like you came out here to do something first, right? I might be able to help you. Spare you walking there and back again."
no subject
Rinoa went through her mind to see if she could remember the moth cure, but it really had left her. "It wears off eventually," she assured him. "I guess if you inhale too much though, it can get very serious. You could forget who you are, where you're from, your past." She never wanted to simply forget everything again, so she kept a very close eye out for moths. They seemed so harmless!
"Oh, yes, I was getting us kindling. Sometimes you can find it in the forest. There are a lot of very good wood cutters stockpiling for the winter, so I left the big stuff to them." Rinoa was good at many things, but hitting things with axes was not the top of her list. She pointed to the little pile she already made and picked it up again. "This will start them, at least." It was something she was capable of adding. "I don't know much about surviving off the land or what to do about having no technology. So I found other things to do!"
The sheltered little girl was a persona she was really trying to shed.
no subject
Right now with so little left in his mind thanks to the moths, Nida was left gaping at Rinoa. Powder that gives you intangibility? How was that... No, he's not going to ask the question of how that science works.
"Dust that... Okay, so at least this memory thing may wear off?" he asked, arms crossed over his chest. "Not much worse than a GF then, if you can get them back. But I remember enough to know how to get good kindling. Who knows, maybe I was out here to do that, or something like that. Have you done anything like gathering dried leaves? Great starter for fires. I may have told you that before, I don't really know."
The last thing he would want is to go back not remembering something and with nothing to show for it. Surely Rinoa would let him do this much.
