Prompts
- STAYING POWER - Go down to the bunker, they said. You can get yourself amazing powers from the vending machine, they said. Well, you've done that, and you've made your choice, but one thing nobody told you was that unless it's a power you're familiar with, you might be on a teensy bit of a learning curve when it comes to keeping it under control. You have a week to figure it out without killing anyone; have fun!
- FORGIVE AND... - You poor thing, you've gotten into some dust moths. Not that you can remember that, because depending on how big that swarm was and how quickly you got out of it, you might not remember much at all. Better hope somebody's got some Forget Me Nots on hand.
- HIT & RUN - Life in the village can be pretty sleepy... until suddenly, it's not. Were you being a troublemaker? Were you disturbing the local wildlife? Because it's now disturbing you, chasing you down the street in front of everyone. Maybe it's a herd of chupapaca or a swarm of fireflies. Or maybe you went old school and it's just a really pissed off badger. Godspeed and good luck.
- WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.
Texts
All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.
- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name
Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.
Anne | Venom
Staying Power
She was your regular, run of the mill, everyday human ... except for the brief jog with Venom ... but that had left some very strong impressions about power. It's not long before she's made her way down to the Bunker to check out what was available.
Making her choice, she wanders back into the woods to practice. She doesn't really feel any different, but when she pushes on a tree to experiment it topples over so easily she almost falls with it. Stumbling back, she's quiet for a moment before giving a surprised chuckle and looking at her hands. Okay, this could be fun. She walks by and shoves at another tree, which topples with a creak and a crash, and then makes her way home ...
... where she accidentally rips her door from her room at the Inn. Now it's not so much fun, and she's trying to figure how to put it back without causing more damage.
Hit & Run
It had been somethign she'd done as a kid; take a car, pop a few holes in the lid, and fill it up with fireflies for a little nighttime glow.
But, the fireflies here had turned out to be quite a bit different than the fireflies she grew up with.
She's given up on the glowy jar dreams and is stalking back to the Inn, desperately trying to resist the urge to scratch the itches as her face flushes and she casts worried looks over her shoulder. She would absolutely swear someone, somewhere, is watching her.
Whoever she's come up to, she's tucking an arm with yours and whispering harshly, without breaking stride;
"Don't look behind you, just act. Casual." Strength in numbers, don't instigate the stalker, just get to the Inn as fast as they can without raising suspicion.
Wildcard
Anything else? Hit me up!
Staying power.
Here's the thing. Anne showing up was - not just a surprise but a bit of a jolt. More then a jolt. Ever since then he hasn't been able to sleep because Venom keeps him up asking, whispering, insisting and when the two of them are out at night he's worried - beyond worried that she'll see. That she'll judge even if -
She knows.
"Yeah I know buddy." One of the few who did. Somehow. Strangely. Magically. Hands in his pockets he trudged up to the Inn for dinner, "I know, but that doesn't mean that she's gonna like - be involved. It's We, not - We the people."
But you wish it were?
"Here's the thing. You don't stop loving people, You don't. Ever. Not one single second but if you really care about someone? You let them go. You let them live their life. "If you love something set it free. If they come back they're yours. If they don't then they never were."
...I don't understand.
Through the door and into the common room, "...Human beings don't have hives. We-"
You are lonely
"JesusChristalmighty-"
I am never lonely.
"Spoken like a true alien visitor."
And you are not lonely because you and I are together now. ...I will not let you be lonely.
He is about to ask if that means that he won't leave, that the autonomy of a human being's spirit is no longer possible - before he hears the door rip off it's hinges.
It's instinct really, he leaps up the stairs and makes a run for the sound before stopping, hands out as Venom - desperate to see - oozes across his vision. Then-
"Anne what the fuck happened to you??"
Re: Staying power.
"Oh, don't act so surprised. It's not like you're the only person who has ever walked in on someone doing something unexpected, Mr. SWAT-tosser." She crosses her arms, "I was acquainting myself with the vending machine, if you must know, and apparently it requires a bit of practice. Now, help me get this door back in place."
no subject
You want to tell me what the hell you're thinking?
Silence from the symbiote and a certain smugness, interest even. His hand works and he moves forward to lift the door up and frown, "...Looks like you might have tore it off it's hinges - that's not getting back on without a tool set. I'm sure Tony can put it back and nobody has to know."
He hasn't even gone to the power vending machine. None of it will pull Venom out so the two are stuck together.
You're just being a pussy.
"...I am not shut up." he blinks, and looks sheepishly at Anne, "...It's impressed. Congratulations."
no subject
Still, she did feel bad for breaking it in the first place. "Maybe I shoulmid get back out to the woods until I figure this out. Please tell Venom ours not normal or polite to do this kind of thing without recompense."
no subject
He pauses, "...Okay look if you can stand to deal with him directly he comes out at night. Remember that Halloween party where you and I went as little red riding hood and I was the werewolf?...He and I apparently have a werewolf like relationship."
He pauses, "...You could hang out with me. Or I could find- someone and they could hang out with you and tonight he could show you a few things."
no subject
"Doesn't sound like it would be a bad idea. Is it only the full moon, or will any moon do?"
no subject
You know, because things are just so awesome in his life he's stopped sleeping.
"Truth be told I feel bad for the guy. He wants to be out talking to people, doing things, saying hello but he's...stuck. In me."
It's fucking weird.
no subject
"- and you probably don't want to risk the rest of the village finding out, at least not before you've gotten a chance to passionate them." She crosses her arms and looks at him - them, even if Venom isn't necessarily visible at this moment. "I can keep him company sometimes. Keep him busy while I have this enhancement. Maybe make sure he stays out of trouble. "
no subject
Let Her! It is a chance for us to get together with her again. Venom churns inside of him and he twists, putting a hand on his chest before frowning.
"...happens when it's dark outside."
no subject
"Then we'll wait for dark. Until then, we - fix this door, with or without the illustrious Tony Stark, and when you feel the time is right, we'll take a late-night stroll and, see what can be done."
no subject
More then you are! How will we make a good impression if we are not strong? Get your shit together!
Eddie rolls his eyes, "The door's not gonna go back on it's hinges without the screws and my dear you've ripped the screws clean off their hinges."
That is decidedly arousing.
Eddie freezes.
"...Never say that again."
Nope. Nope.
Learn from her Eddie. You are just as capable as she is, if not moreso. You are an outstanding host but this...her interest...
Nope.
"...We need Tony." or someone who can make screws.
no subject
"Never say what?" She gives him a side-eye, knowing full well that he wasn't commenting on anything she may or may have not said. She was curious what was actually going on in there, but she's willing to let it slide.
"I think it might be best if you handle the Tony part of the situation; he knows you better, and someone needs to watch the door.

hit & run
Which is why, when Anne comes up to her and takes her arm as casually as if they were just two friends walking down the street having a chat, she doesn't turn around. She barely even needs the warning. They make it to the inn common room, and Evie steers the other woman towards one of the tables, one with a good view out the front windows.
"Are you all right?" she asks in an undertone. "Was someone following you?"
She spares a long look outside, and — there's no one. Evie's brow creases slightly, but she's not yet on the point of questioning Anne's judgment. Maybe there really was someone and they've gone.
no subject
"Yes - yes I was." She whispers back, looking flustered but genuine. "I didn't get a good look at who, but I can feel them. They're there."
She nods her head confidently; in her mind, there can be no doubt about this.
no subject
"Whoever it is," she says, "you're safe here, I assure you." The words are spoken with the confidence of a woman who's beat the living daylights out of men twice her size and could do it again. She smiles a little and adds, "I'm Evie Frye. I don't believe we've met, Miss...?"
no subject
"Anne Weying. I admit, I am still finding my way around here. I have had my share of tense walks home, I just don't have my mace or a set of keys here ..." That, she thinks, would have made her feel safer.
"It's nice to meet you."
no subject
"Miss Weying," she says. "The pleasure is mine." She really is very polite, and a very decent person for being a trained killer. Evie allows a suitable pause, then, "I apologize for my forwardness, but could you tell me where you got these?"
She takes one of Anne's forearms at the wrist in a loose hold and turns it so the welts are more visible. On closer inspection, they really do look like insect bites.
no subject
"Fireflies, of all things, out in the woods. Just when you think you've found something normal they literally turn around and bit you."
It's the truth, she hadn't expected to get nibbled on by a cloud of glowy-butt bugs. But even as she lets Evie inspect her arm, she's throwing another glance out the window.
no subject
Still, fireflies: she heard something about that once, from someone here she'd been talking to about some of the bizarre things that had happened here in the past. The fireflies had appeared, they'd bitten or stung, and all at once half the village had been ill with fever and — well. Paranoid delusions.
Alarm goes off in the back of Evie's mind, but she conceals it carefully. "Are you feeling unwell at all?" is her follow-up question, because this would certainly explain the elevated skin temperature and the way Anne keeps glancing out the window as if on alert for a stalker who, Evie is starting to believe, isn't actually there. She manages not to sound accusatory — just curious and a bit concerned.
no subject
Another glance out the window.
"No, I'm fine. Just peachy."
no subject
"It's only that I've heard these firefly bites have caused some people to feel ill — I was hoping you weren't experiencing any of the effects."
Reasonable, but it's also a subtle prod to see if Anne might reconsider her answer — or double down on it.
no subject
But if she is sick with something, it would be a good idea to get some medication, or at least a checkup.
"You think it could be the fireflies?" Frowning slightly, looking at Evie and then down at the welts on her arm even as she tries to resist the urge to scratch them.
Hit & Run
Or at least has to fight many more battles than they might if they were more circumspect. So Kassandra does as she's asked. She's not a particularly good actor, so she doesn't do it terribly subtly, but it's passable, at least to anyone who doesn't really know her tendency to treat even serious matters as something like a joke.
"So," she says, linking her arm through Anne's and changing her pace to match her new companion's, "what is it that we are not looking at?"
no subject
B movie performance or Oscar nominee, Anne is grateful for the willing assist. She's flushed, flexing her hand as she resists the urge to scratch the bites. "You didn't see anyone, did you?"
