Prompts

  1. STAYING POWER - Go down to the bunker, they said. You can get yourself amazing powers from the vending machine, they said. Well, you've done that, and you've made your choice, but one thing nobody told you was that unless it's a power you're familiar with, you might be on a teensy bit of a learning curve when it comes to keeping it under control. You have a week to figure it out without killing anyone; have fun!

  2. FORGIVE AND... - You poor thing, you've gotten into some dust moths. Not that you can remember that, because depending on how big that swarm was and how quickly you got out of it, you might not remember much at all. Better hope somebody's got some Forget Me Nots on hand.

  3. HIT & RUN - Life in the village can be pretty sleepy... until suddenly, it's not. Were you being a troublemaker? Were you disturbing the local wildlife? Because it's now disturbing you, chasing you down the street in front of everyone. Maybe it's a herd of chupapaca or a swarm of fireflies. Or maybe you went old school and it's just a really pissed off badger. Godspeed and good luck.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Texts

All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.

- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name

Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.

Zevran offers a hand, lips curled n an easy smile. This is all very beginning of some manner of romantic comedy but he's learned it's safest not to make those assumptions. "Come, Once you are to the edge perhaps the rest of the ice shall melt."

And then he can fetch the gentleman's boots in the most gallant way, earning a favor.

"Hm. I suppose I did, despite my best efforts." Guess he's stuck with this audience since he can't just. Walk away.

When she relaxes he let's the wariness fade a bit. If he doesn't start trouble it seems there probably won't be any. "If youre familiar with more elemental magics, I would appreciate advice. Otherwise..."

"No, but ..." She swings the spear around and makes a couple preliminary pokes at the ice. "I could stab it. That might work."

Was this normal for ice? She's not sure, and maybe poking it with force wouldn't even do anything. It's worth a try, at least unless this guy wanted to wait for someone with elemental magics experience. "Or not, it's up to you."

Hawke is on her way out to hunt, which explains the bow on her back and the bag of arrows she made, and also the quick and focused way she's moving. She's not entirely certain she plans on killing anything today, but it's good to take a quick head count of what's out there. Winter is coming, and they can only hold so much meat at a time, so it's not like she can easily stock up for the village. Her dark hair is braided and she's in dark green that'll hide her better in the forest and long grasses.

She's not intentionally ignoring the woman as she starts to walk by, it's quite the opposite. She's usually very aware of her surroundings, but sometimes she's looking ahead too much. She pauses and looks down at Vanessa, blinking a few times. Her hunter instinct bleeds away and her friendly instinct comes back. She smiles and squats down next to her. "I'm sorry, but I don't. Are you new here or are you just confused?" It could be either or both or neither. Hard to tell with this place and the people who wander their way through.

Hit And Run

[personal profile] paidforit 2018-11-27 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
She's in the process of hauling some firewood back to the small gathering of cabins when she sees the woman taking flight from her hunter. Normally, someone getting themselves into trouble is their own problem, and none of hers.

Still, now that she's here doing this whole 'cooperative living' experiment along with everyone else? There might be some niggling sense of obligation, atrophied but present, inside her mind. With a grunt she lets the bundle of wood fall to the ground behind her, moving towards the treeline to intercept the animal.

Maybe she's forgotten that here, a giant cat's claws could tear her skin. Equally as possible she doesn't care. Regardless, she's skidding towards Cassandra as she comes tearing past, stepping around her to bear down into a braced stance as the animal comes hurtling after her.

And if Cassandra looks back, she'll see a deceptively slight woman attempt to snare an arm around that big, fuzzy neck and wrest it bodily from its path of pursuit.

"And yet here is the machine, linking you right back to a village full of people and combustible homes. Brilliant on their part, isn't it?" Dry tones, rolling his eyes as he said it.

"So..." He gives her another look now, more assessing than checking her out, curious about her motives. "Just wanting to play? I mean, in taking the chance and all."

Hit and Run

[personal profile] moderndayassassin 2018-11-27 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Typical, honestly. Typical. Desmond's minding his own business and he ends up getting involved with some wolves. He freezes exactly where he stands at her warning and glances over to them. "Pretty sure they were focused on you and not me until now!" He sasses back, and he really has to stop sassing because there are fucking wolves, Desmond. Speaking at all brought their attention his way, and he does the only thing he can think of. He runs right at the tree she's in too and climbs after her.

He personally doesn't do a lot of climbing, but he has many memories of it from his ancestors. And he's done some of it in the strangest of places. Still, he's leaning on Connor's expertise at the moment and he is very light on his feet as he gets up high enough that the wolves seem hesitant to follow them. They could try, but there has to be easier prey down below. "Go after the creepy deer with teeth, guys, we need to exterminate those things!" Desmond has very good reason to think those creepy Bambis should all be put down, okay.

"Uh, hey." He glances over at her, suddenly ... having zero idea what to say.
relentlessness: (Four minutes)

[personal profile] relentlessness 2018-11-27 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"You would think, and yet..." He gestures towards Connor's hands. "Obviously they're not. They're risking you, and others, and probably got people everywhere, watching." What's the point if they're not watching, after all.

"But least a fireplace is bricked. What about down at the smith? Seems the place is built for fire, after all."

"Maybe next time don't try to spin them over your face."

Looked like he had an observer. Leaned against the door frame, taking a swig of something out of a bottle dangling loosely from her fingers, she looked as though she'd been watching comfortably for some time. Might as well get an idea of what the powers they were offering up were going to look like.

She'd have settled for a bit of her old mojo back, herself, but let someone else test it out first. Why not? Stuff like this was entertaining, anyway.

Rinoa waited for him to come down, smiling warmly although with some confusion. Then again, there were a lot of people around who seemed to love climbing trees these days. Maybe she'd have to introduce him to one or two later on. Especially when she sees him execute such a seamless roll. "Oh, I see. That is true." She tilted her head curiously at him. Why would he need the higher ground? Well, she was sure he had very good reasons.

She was surprised at first, giving him a puzzled look. "You're on the island, remember? The village is just over there." Rinoa wondered for a long moment if he'd been sent back and this was a new Nida, but no, looking at what he was wearing and holding that seemed very unlikely. "Where we live with Squall. Are you sure you didn't bump your head?" He would have definitely fallen out of the tree if he did that though, but she was very concerned.

It was unfortunate it took this long for her to pick up on it, and she slapped a hand to here forehead. "I'm so stupid." There really was no excuse. "Do you remember anything about little moths? They might have fluttered in your face and made you cough?" Rinoa glanced around. She did not see any now, but she knew that they could be found around here. "They live here and they have this ability to make people forget things. Squall and I got caught in them early on, it was awful." They had more reason than most to struggle with memory loss and start to panic. And they had no idea what it was.

"I think there is a cure for it, but I don't remember what it is. We might have to go back to the inn to find out."

Desmond watched him start to go, and he experienced an inner war. He really doesn't feel ready to deal with the headache that this place was, but he also ... well he cared. Annoyingly, he cared. "Altaïr, it's ...." Ugh, he hates people. He hates situations where he doesn't know what's going on, which is a problem, because he never knows what's going on. He still is partly convinced this is the Bleeding Effect or Juno fucking with him.

"It's not you. It's me." Hilarious. As if they were having a break up conversation when he's honestly so tired and heartsick and really bad with people. "This is all a lot. But I'm not trying to be insulting."
moderndayassassin: (what d you mean)

[personal profile] moderndayassassin 2018-11-27 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"It seemed like a good idea at the time." Desmond muttered, but that's basically acknowledgement that she was 100% right. "I figured if I could see them clearly I would control it better, but apparently the rock decided my face was a better target than the ground." It was his own fault, and he was frustrated, rubbing a hand on his head. That was going to leave a bump for sure.

"They make this shit seem so easy in movies. You just put out your hand and a bridge moves or something. Or you stop bullets." Desmond figured this was probably the best example of that, but he was positive now that he shouldn't be counted on to stop any bullets. Fucking hell. He glanced over to the woman who decided to troll him, sarcastically saluting in her direction. "Did I manage to entertain you? You're welcome."

Island... Balamb? But no, Balamb had a town, not a village. It's official, he has become quite confused, and that's almost frustrating. There has to be a good answer to this, though it's clear Rinoa didn't have one to provide. If Squall was somewhere nearby he could probably find a good answer there. Or so he hoped. He looked about ready to start walking in the direction pointed only to pause when she mentioned coughing.

"Yeah," he confirmed, looking back at her with more confusion on his face. Moths that could make someone forget things, was that even possible? A few flashes of memory, of creatures that were beyond conventional explanation like something called a Blobra, made him nod at Rinoa.

"Moths that make you forget things. And you don't remember how to not forget."

Not the most ridiculous thing, and she had given him an answer that gives him something to do other than climb a tree and wait for more information. That was something he could work with. Would work with.

"You look like you came out here to do something first, right? I might be able to help you. Spare you walking there and back again."

Good. He took the ruffling with a dose of humility and good nature. That earned some clout in her eyes as he glanced her way from his spot on the floor. Her lips pulled a little wider, quirked in obvious amusement.

"Least it wasn't something sharp. You ever see a sword swallower choke? They don't do it twice."

And she took another swig out of her bottle, absently wiping her mouth with the back of her free hand. "Let me guess. Had a go at the pile of free magical goodies they were giving out."

But then how would he sneak up on you? Honestly, Desmond, you would think you'd be used to the way he walks enough by now to hear him coming.

"My apologies. Normally my clothing would make enough noise to warn you I am coming." There was a certain whisper to the way his robes moved that was easy enough to hear once one knew to listen for it.

"I am certain that you will do fine. It will simply take practice." After all, Desmond had all of his skills - as well as all of Ezio's and Altair's. There was no way he couldn't be completely and utterly awesome at anything he attempted.
moderndayassassin: (listening)

[personal profile] moderndayassassin 2018-11-27 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't apologize," he mutters, because it's him who was being a dick and overreacting. Not that he plans on apologizing because it requires too much of him at the moment. Desmond would know the sound Connor's robes made, considering he lived through that mind for awhile, but they all looked like normal people now. Ish.

"Yeah yeah, everything takes practice, I know. At least I'm not going to get a fortune cookie answer from you like Altair." Desmond respects his oldest ancestor because he knows a lot about him, but he's still hard to deal with. It's probably because there's something paternal about him, and Desmond reacts poorly to paternal figures. To say the least. "Peace be within you and only then can you be at peace," he snarks, making it up, but that sounds kind of real.

"Have you gotten any powers?"

Desmond's humor was entirely sarcastic and sassy, which often required him to be self-aware enough to mock himself on occasion. He appreciated people with that same outlook and smirked at her. "Anyone who thinks sword swallowing is a reasonable life choice deserves what's coming to them."

He wondered where she got the bottle but didn't question it. There were a lot of ways, probably. He finally got up and brushed his pants off. "Got it in one." He pointed at her and gave a thumbs up. Ordinarily he was not great with people, but he did get along with people who also didn't like people, so there was always that. He shrugged and gestured to one of the rocks, lifting it easily into the air. The one was not hard.

"I mean, I'm going to bitch and moan about this, but I still like it better than what I could do before. Unlike my ancestors here. Who will bitch and moan that they don't have it anymore."
winswars: (If You're Down Don't Hide It)

Does he truly look like a normal person to you, Desmond? With a braid and tribal beads in his hair and a handmade bow and quiver strapped to his back? Not even mentioning he is roughly the size of a full grown black bear.

The response makes him smile, considering it was exactly the sort of thing he could so easily picture Altair saying. "I have found those sorts of answers do not help." The clan mother had often tried to give him those sorts of answers, while Achilles had always been much more straightforward. "It will indeed take practice, but there are things you can do to improve your focus."

"I did." Opening his left palm, a small flame slowly began to spark to life, a talent it had taken him a rather long time to learn how to control.

Her eyebrows raised at that. "Your ancestors are here?" she repeated, like she wanted to be sure she heard that right. Maybe he was being literal, maybe it was a turn of phrase. You know, the ancestors are always with you, that sort of thing.

Still. A lot of funny stuff seemed possible. Weird as it might be, it wasn't the weirdest possibility out there. At this point, it hardly seemed like anything would be much of a surprise. This might as well happen, right?

"Yes, exactly. There are a lot of interesting animals here. Even some more interesting than ours." But no less deadly in a few examples. The fever snakes alone almost killed half the village from illness. She knew something called a Wendigo came down too and attacked. There were a lot of things written in the inn if you went looking for it. "There's this powder that if you inhale it, it can make you intangible. You walk through walls and people can't grab you." Rinoa saw it with her own eyes. It wasn't the same as what Edea could do, but it made her almost jump out of her skin all the same.

Rinoa went through her mind to see if she could remember the moth cure, but it really had left her. "It wears off eventually," she assured him. "I guess if you inhale too much though, it can get very serious. You could forget who you are, where you're from, your past." She never wanted to simply forget everything again, so she kept a very close eye out for moths. They seemed so harmless!

"Oh, yes, I was getting us kindling. Sometimes you can find it in the forest. There are a lot of very good wood cutters stockpiling for the winter, so I left the big stuff to them." Rinoa was good at many things, but hitting things with axes was not the top of her list. She pointed to the little pile she already made and picked it up again. "This will start them, at least." It was something she was capable of adding. "I don't know much about surviving off the land or what to do about having no technology. So I found other things to do!"

The sheltered little girl was a persona she was really trying to shed.

"Oh yeah. For real. They are here and they are nosy as fuck." Connor was more subtle about it, but he still hovered as if Desmond wasn't very aware of him. It was too small of a place to avoid them entirely, so he decided to do the mature thing, which was mostly ignore them and go hide in the bunker and get super powers. The jewel of the modern Assassins, in the flesh.

He was doing much better with the rocks this time; it helped he was keeping them from his head, like she pointed out. They were making a pattern in the air that was only slightly intentional. The Assassin symbol. He used to have symbols burning through his eyes when he slept. It was real great. "Let that be a warning to you. Whether you like it or not, this place might surprise you with people you don't want to see. Or, I guess, people you do."

"Not a whole lot of those people left to worry about," she replies with a shrug, resettling herself against the frame of the door and continuing to watch. The pattern was an unfamiliar one to her, but it did seem to indicate he was getting the hang of this. More than anything, focus seemed to be his issue.

Yeah. She could relate, there, couldn't she?

A curious little wrinkle appeared in the bridge of her nose, despite herself. After another moment or two of silence, she piped up again, cocking her head slightly. "So what's that like? I mean, they're family, yeah? You get on?"

A little nosy as questions went, but hey. He'd brought it up. No point in doing that if you didn't feel like chatting about it.

More interesting than Bitebugs and Rightys and, Hyne forbid, Toramas? His expression spoke volumes for him, saying he wasn't quite sure about that fact. Could things anywhere be quite so intimidating as staring down a T-Rexaur and hoping it doesn't decide to literally eat you? Of course he didn't remember about fever snakes or croc-dogs. Too bad he didn't remember that book of from the inn, because the variation between this world's Wendigos and theirs would be more than enough to make him uncomfortable.

Right now with so little left in his mind thanks to the moths, Nida was left gaping at Rinoa. Powder that gives you intangibility? How was that... No, he's not going to ask the question of how that science works.

"Dust that... Okay, so at least this memory thing may wear off?" he asked, arms crossed over his chest. "Not much worse than a GF then, if you can get them back. But I remember enough to know how to get good kindling. Who knows, maybe I was out here to do that, or something like that. Have you done anything like gathering dried leaves? Great starter for fires. I may have told you that before, I don't really know."

The last thing he would want is to go back not remembering something and with nothing to show for it. Surely Rinoa would let him do this much.

While Bobo has a tendency to wander far and wide from the villages, he also has a bit of an understanding with some of the larger wildlife. In that he avoids that at all costs. Still not certain if he can die here, and what it means to him if he does - does this place even have Hell? - he's avoided things that he knows can be a danger.

Like the large cat he sees chasing a woman toward the tree line.

For a moment he stands there, watching, and considering the dangers of actually trying to distract the creature at the very least, buying her time. Maybe it's a bit of a moment too long, finally sighing and moving to pick up the bolo he had made months before when he arrived. It wasn't the best of weapons, but it would do in a pinch and it meant not waiting to have something forged for him as well.

Moving closer as he hefts it, getting it swinging and sending it flying towards the lion even as he yells, trying to distract it away from her and give her time, accepting it might change course and run his way. Let it, given the axe at his feet he'd been using to split logs for firewood.

“I think this time I’m more inclined to agree with you,” she spoke up from where she’d been watching him. Not spying! Or maybe just a little. Lucy still hadn’t come to terms with being here with him, but at least she was coping. Going with the flow—dealing with it. In her own way.

She pushed forward, arms folded over her chest. They would talk, eventually. It all depended on when they were both ready. Still, distance was kept; she wouldn’t need to be right at his side to see the slight injury he’d given himself.

Some hesitation. “You alright?”

Desmond was stubborn, she knew. He had a hard head just like his father. A few rocks giving him a nice goose egg wouldn’t be such a bad thing, or affect him much.
