→ Choose one of the scenarios below or make up your own. Feel free to try multiple scenarios.

→ Write LOGS or TEXT prompts, or both.

THERE ARE ONLY THREE RULES FOR THE TDM:

2. It cannot be the character's arrival into the game.
3. Please only test new characters who do not have a version in the game. Our cast list is here.

→ TDM threads cannot be used to meet AC, but if the character is accepted into the game and both players agree, you may keep the CR.

Character want ads are here.

Prompts

  1. STAYING POWER - Go down to the bunker, they said. You can get yourself amazing powers from the vending machine, they said. Well, you've done that, and you've made your choice, but one thing nobody told you was that unless it's a power you're familiar with, you might be on a teensy bit of a learning curve when it comes to keeping it under control. You have a week to figure it out without killing anyone; have fun!

  2. FORGIVE AND... - You poor thing, you've gotten into some dust moths. Not that you can remember that, because depending on how big that swarm was and how quickly you got out of it, you might not remember much at all. Better hope somebody's got some Forget Me Nots on hand.

  3. HIT & RUN - Life in the village can be pretty sleepy... until suddenly, it's not. Were you being a troublemaker? Were you disturbing the local wildlife? Because it's now disturbing you, chasing you down the street in front of everyone. Maybe it's a herd of chupapaca or a swarm of fireflies. Or maybe you went old school and it's just a really pissed off badger. Godspeed and good luck.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Texts

All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.

- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name

Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.
relentlessness: (Oooh)

I am so happy you brought Evie to the tdm

[personal profile] relentlessness 2018-11-14 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Neither of them are good about seeing the other's side. Not only that but in rushing in as he does, being brash and excitable and not looking at all angles he's caused Evie more work in cleaning up all that he's done. Knowing that and accepting his fault are not the same thing. It's not easy to accept that, and focusing on them having their place in their life is easier than finding a way to calm the way his mind raced and he let his body follow along.

But if it wasn't for Evie, for her research and her abilities and her skills, he would have crashed and burned a long time ago. No matter how hard it is to admit, they need one another.

So of course, even recognizing that, he pushes those buttons and watches for a reaction that he knows so well. Smiling widely as she goes on the defensive, all flashing eyes and attitude and he's almost as proud as he is amused. Not that he ever tells her that, which is part of what they needed to overcome between them. Maybe this place will be the chance they need. Though apparently not entirely in this moment.

"We have that in common," he points out, glancing to one side, looking out over the village. "Problem is... It would make sense with the things we've seen, with what they've managed here. But if they do, and with those they've gathered here..." None of that is reassuring, not in the least.

Oh but he grins then, chin lifting a bit as he canted his head, considering. Both how good the name sounds as well as what he is considering. "Well, Lady Frye, I am considering how to assure ourselves that any of those here aren't Templars waiting to invite me to delightful dinners and flirting beautifully with me while making me think the Templars here are likely behind this place."

In other words, he's looking to try and party a bit, and enjoy all of the beauty this place has to offer. The very not grown up plan for a very serious answer.

As awkward as Sam's position on the wall is, he hasn't missed that glint in Rhodey's eye. The Scary Dad look is, well, scary, but he also knows Rhodey enough to not really be all that fazed by it. Still, two can play at this game, and Sam intends to rise to the occasion.

"Oh come on, man, you're telling me I don't make a cute cat?" He's decided that hamming it up is the best option here, so he couples that statement with his best and hopefully most convincing meow. "Got a paintbrush?"

Whoa, wait, so Wagner as in Kurt?

I haven't gotten to meet many other mutants, I mean. My mom's, uh. Not really popular lately

I always thought your name made a lot of sense, especially since German's got a lot of portmanteau words, right?

Excellent. Creepy, but excellent. Definitely makes a statement.

You tell me, what would the rest look like? What's your color scheme? I mean, in reality I'm gonna be limited with materials, but dreams don't have limits, let's dream big

At this point, only my mother calls me James. I get confused when I hear it.

If you ever have the pleasure of Stark the Younger, you might develop a different strategy. Either that, or I've known him way too long.

STAYING POWER

Of course he was going to go get some stupid vending machine power when he heard about it, it had to be better than having nothing at all, right? They didn’t have what he wanted, bargain discount shit, as far as he was concerned, so he chose magnetokinesis, because at that least that one didn’t sound like he might accidentally kill a whole town.

It was a mistake. It was a fucking terrible mistake. He learned that the moment he tried to pull a spoon toward himself with his new power. The whole damn set of utensils had made a beeline for him, and now he was covered in cuts and cutlery. Apparently, he was a damn magnet for anything metal, and no matter how many times he tried to turn it off, it didn’t seem to listen to him.

He’s currently stomping down the street, body covered in various metallic objects, pots, shovels, forks, and they all clank together, like an accompanying theme song as he spouts curses. He yanks a….the hell is that, a door knob? Whatever, he yanks it off of him with furious force and winds his hand back as he throws it as far as he can away from him with a loud “DIE!”

It doesn’t get far though before his magnetic pull has it colliding back into him, knocking him on his ass. And there’s a long string of curses that eventually peak in a furious shouted “FUUUUCK”.

Please come save him before he kills himself, or maybe at least come get whatever metallic object he’s unintentionally stolen off of him.

HIT & RUN

If anyone asks why he’s being chased down the street by an angry pack of weird looking mini deer, he would definitely tell them that they were the dicks that started it. But right now he just needs to get away from the bastards that seem intent on biting him.

Town probably wasn’t the smartest direction to lead an angry swarm of chupapacas, but he’s not such an asshole that he won’t shove anybody in his path out of the way with a rather heroic “Get the hell out of the way, dumbass!”

Outrunning them will only last for so long though, so he parkours his way up onto the top of the first building he can, somebody’s home, a store, he’s not paying any damn attention, all that matters is that he’s out of their nibbly little reach. He perches right on the edge of the building, one leg in front of the other as he stares down at the animals with a triumphant grin.

“HA! What are you gonna do now, you little ankle biting assholes?!” Yeah, he’s totally trash talking deer.

You say that like you don't think I'd do it.

You know I would. I gave up shame for Lent one year and forgot to have it again.

James Rhodes, your mother taught you better than to lie like that. You've never had any shame.

[personal profile] constructionzone 2018-11-14 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Someday, somewhere, hopefully not here, I'm going to get you to play poker with Roberta Rhodes, and then you will know for sure: she definitely taught me to lie like that.

Tony and Bruce were notoriously the worst about that particular drive. The puzzles. The nagging desire to know answers about everything in the universe and poke at it until it made sense. It led to their best work and their absolute worst. He's been careful here. There are a few things even in this limited space that tug on his questioning mind, but at least there's better people now to rein them in. Seeing the apocalyptic loss of half the universe too would make anyone think before they act.

"Apparently he wasn't as bad as socializing as we thought," Bruce murmurs, watching Rhodey warp the metal. Impressed but not surprised that he's good at being careful and controlled. "When I was gone we were on another planet, and he made friends there of his own." There's perhaps an undercurrent of bitterness, but it's difficult to be that toward someone who is essentially dead now. And petty.

He smiles faintly though, at the Ross reference. He also has a gallows sense of humor, if very understated. He also has trouble hearing nice things from anyone, glancing to the floor, wringing his hands together. "That's, um, that's very kind of you to say." And a little flustering, but it doesn't take much to fluster the shy scientist. Bruce shakes his head. "You did what you thought was right. Sometimes that means working with something wrong." He is the last person to judge anyone else on their choices. "I gave Tony a hard time about it, when he first told me, I feel bad about that." Hearing his only friend worked with his greatest enemy was difficult.

Hawke's eyes warm and her grin widens, always so delighted to find someone willing to play and verbally spar with her. She's a joker at heart, and she's been able to taunt and tease the others since arriving, but some of them are so serious and sincere. That's nice occasionally, but if it happens too often she would rather jump out a window than mirror it. She likes him instantly; sometimes it's just that easy with her.

"That's rather selfish of you. The monsters need to eat too, do you want their children to starve? Are you a baby starver?" She chuckles and gestures in the direction of the inn, walking in that direction with him. She knows most of the grounds now exceptionally well, scouting the main area several times and the surrounding areas bit by bit. "So I suppose this is an inappropriate welcome, but most people are less mouthy than me, promise. I'm Hawke. What's your name?"

No not at all. Even the most advanced magical devices I have seen are nowhere near as powerful.

But I suppose that does not mean they do not exist? I cannot be sure.

I've become acquainted with Stark the Younger here. He's not so bad. More like his father than he probably wants to be, though I don't often tell him that.

How long have you been friends?

White and teal.

[She thinks a moment, about her own trappings in he world, about the others, 1 and his insufferable cape and that stupid little hat.]

Something practical? Nothing flashy. No capes.
demiurgency: (hmmm)

[personal profile] demiurgency 2018-11-15 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Edna Mode would be proud.

Why no capes, though? Personal bias? I mean, I'm not arguing, capes and helmets get to be a little much together, you don't wanna go full Thor

Not everyone can pull off giant wings on the sides of their head, let me tell you

Practical's good, though. How do you feel about belts and pouches?

Yes to pouches and belts.

"You've got to be shitting me." Tony's not, Rhodey can tell that much, but it doesn't stop him from shaking his head with mild disgust. "Forget-me-nots. What's next: rosemary, that's for remembrance?" It's a slight mystery how this memory loss is working. People, places - those are shrouded and hidden. Quotations from a formerly despised Shakespearean play that he had to slog through at one of the few horizon-broadening literature courses he'd taken back at MIT? Right there, apparently.

Though neither of them know it, they might be in luck: forget-me-nots usually bloom in spring, but sometimes they bloom in fall, too. "I'm looking forward to not feeling this...well, it's like a fog. Like I was on pain meds and my brain's not there yet."
demiurgency: (chinhand)

[personal profile] demiurgency 2018-11-15 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
That is totally a good reason to not have a cape. And also, ironically, exactly why Edna insists on no capes

She's a character from a movie. The Incredibles. You haven't seen it? It's kind of amazing, about this family with superpowers

Thor's one of the Avengers. Although I guess I shouldn't assume anyone here knows them, it's kind of weird to think people don't. He's also a god sort of? IDK if that means anything to you either
demiurgency: (perplexed)

[personal profile] demiurgency 2018-11-15 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Billy frowns again, his momentary triumph fading away again in confusion. None of this sounds right. None of it sounds wrong, either, and a wave of emotion washes over him, almost crushing. Sadness, loneliness, fear, anxiety. Maybe all of them. He's not sure. All he knows is he'd rather go back to how it was before, just enjoying how nice this place was before Tommy--that's right, his name's Tommy--before Tommy came and ruined it.

"No! I mean--I'm pretty sure I didn't? I don't remember much before I sat down," he says, starting out strong and faltering towards the end. "I think I was...out for a walk." That sounds right. Let's see about the next part. "And there were these...birds? No, they weren't birds. The other things." Wait, there's something there. Something about twins, and singing, and giant monsters...Mothra. "Moths," he finishes, and that triggers another of those feelings of pride. "There were moths. And then I was here. Where's here? Is this Central Park? They rebuilt fast." From what, though? He can't quite remember.
demiurgency: (try again)

"Guess that makes two of us," Billy says, and offers a small smile, even if it is a little distracted. After all, she looks super embarrassed, and it's really not a big deal. Probably. Looking back up, he focuses his efforts on doing a sort of somersault, flipping back more or less vertical, before gliding to the ground, landing with a quiet oof.

"There, that's better. Solid ground, my old friend," he says a little nonsensically, dusting himself off as he turns back to her, shaking his bangs out of his face with a flip. "Hey, so--looks like you dropped your stick--you okay?"
