Test Drive 20 (August & September)

Test Drive
→ Holds and applications are always open. Holds are required for all applications.

→ Choose one of the scenarios below or make up your own. Feel free to try multiple scenarios.

→ Write LOGS or TEXT prompts, or both.

THERE ARE ONLY THREE RULES FOR THE TDM:
1. It has to take place in the 6I universe.
2. It cannot be the character's arrival into the game.
3. Please only test new characters who do not have a version in the game. Our cast list is here.

→ TDM threads cannot be used to meet AC, but if the character is accepted into the game and both players agree, you may keep the CR.

Character want ads are here.

Prompts

Happy anniversary, villagers! Buckle up!

  1. HEAT WAVE - Poor you. All you were trying to do was get yourself a little something to eat from the kitchen at the inn. Maybe you cooked it up yourself (The inn does, after all, have an electric stove — FANCY!), or maybe you just grabbed some leftovers. By accident or on purpose, you ended up with way more RED SALT in there than you maybe should have, and this is no ordinary seasoning. Whether you like things eye-wateringly spicy or not, it's August, you're sweating buckets, and it's only getting worse.

  2. SKUNK DRUNK - Isn't that just the way? You're out and about, minding your own business, and you get sprayed by a BROWN SKUNK. The good news? It doesn't stink like a normal skunk. The also possibly good news, depending on who you ask? You're now in for about 5 hours of being very, very friendly. (Just remember to keep the test drive PG!)

  3. BRAIN CANDY - Whether you made it to the anniversary party or not, you've gotten your hands on a piece of leftover candy from the big bash. Careful, though, these treats are more than meets the eye: Whatever COLOR it was, you've now taken on the associated personality traits. (Not the power, just the traits.) At least it only lasts 10 minutes.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Texts

All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.

- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name

Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.

[he makes a quick decision then.]

Where can I meet you? The rats eat the roots I'm saving for the camp.

[He sends a quick set of directions to his makeshift "lab"- a room in a previously empty house he's cleaned up well enough to almost be sterile.

It's good enough for dissection, for now. His tools are crude and in many places obviously improvised, but he's clearly had some experience in makeshift lab-building before.

Alex himself is a bit too lost in the guts of one of the tiny deer to notice when anyone arrives. There's not even any tea. He's a terrible host.]

[This guy has said he's a zoologist. he's said he wants to look at creatures. He's going to be the most likely to cut you open and pull you apart.

If you can befriend him. This might work better.

He has two of the foxes with the strange fur and the rats, the huge rats slung over his shoulder. He had to wrestle those creatures to the ground and snap their necks. Easy.

The ground doesn't shake but there is a bit of a noise when he tromps into the room with the animals in his arms.

Just do it Alec. Say something. In your great big monster voice.]

...Hello? Price?

[Alex's look is one of mild shock, but no horror. It's more confusion and curiosity than panic, though.]

Ah, yes. Alex Price. Hi. [Don't ask him why he's green, Alex. You can't just ask why someone's green.] Um, right, you can just put those over on that table over there, I think there's room.

[He...He looks like him. Oh it's not the glasses. (He never wore glasses. Did he?) It's that expression. Like when Linda would bring in a new plant, orchids she'd found growing wild in Houma and he'd hold it and they'd look together.

It's disconcerting.

He sets the foxes carefully on the table and grimaces.]

These rats are too big and they're eating the roots I've been using to feed the village. I'd rather toss their corpses in the river.

[Disgust. Ew. Red things that eat plants. He peers around the room with interest and Alex might be able to sense a degree of longing in his voice.]

You've scavenged all this?
scales_and_silence: (bedhead)

[personal profile] scales_and_silence 2018-09-14 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. Have you noticed any fleas or ticks on any of them?

[The leather gloves he traded some simple first aid work for don't allow him as much dexterity as the latex ones he'd prefer, but they're adequate for working with things he doesn't have to worry about contaminating. Things that are already dead.]

Given that even the deer here drink blood, I want to identify any zoonotic diseases before they can start spreading to the population. Especially when you've got unreliable long-term food storage options...

[He does occasionally look up from the rat he's switched his attention to to look back up at Alec, though he seems to be putting effort in to only doing it as often as he would for a non-plant-based sentient creature. Even one he's so very curious about. Is that some sort of symbiotic plant growth, like manatees and their algae sunscreen? A distant, distant relative of the swamp bromeliead?

But he's been raised better than to just ask someone those sort of potentially invasive questions. So he focuses on the dead rat, combing through the fur to look for marks of disease or flea infestation.]

It's an animal. It probably has fleas.

[Pause. No. Alec No. Think. Use your science. "You're a doctor for plants, not people Alec." He wants to cry for a moment. He still feels those things. It hurts that he can't.

Hunting for diseases is also something he should be a part of. If I could adjust my body I could probably handle some of the more delicate instruments.

He stares at his hands and drops them to his sides before clenching them. When he does he catches one of those looks up.]

...The deer here drink blood?

Mhm. [He nods towards the tiny, hemophagic deer he has opened up on the table]

Their digestive system reminds me a bit of a vampire bat, which makes sense, even if the evolution of these things clearly doesn't at first. Buuut my cousin and grandmother are are actually giant telepathic wasps in very convincing human disguises so I've learned to accept that evolution just goes on a bender sometimes. Thus creating most of Australia's entire ecosystem and everything from below the Bathypelagic Zone.

[The bottom of the oceans are Weird and no one should go there, ever.]

[personal profile] houmaprotector 2018-09-14 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
You'd be surprised at the flora that you can find in it though. There are plants that human beings haven't discovered yet which if properly harvested could alter the way that human beings think about the planet.

[It's hard not to feel hungry for the tools, the peace of a lab. I should do more science. If I can get back. Maybe ask Zatanna to let me use her greenhouse. I can make it work. If I really want to, I can make it work.]

You don't look particularly waspish.

[Hm. He stares down at the creatures he'd collected.]

My mother was adopted. [Neither Grandma or Grandpa baker was of a species cross-fertile with humans, nevermind each other.]

Are those foxes going to melt? Do you think I should look at those first? Wait- let me find a jar for those crystals-

[It's like watching an undergrad before finals. Except finals are Live Or Death Survival In a Hostile Environment, and it is at least a student who has studied extensively for just that. Was possibly raised from a young age for it, or bitten by a radioactive academic.]

[personal profile] houmaprotector 2018-09-14 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
They're solid. I carried them through the swamp a few miles out, I think they'll be fine.

[One big green hand touches the creature and leaves a smear of green things on the creature's fur.]

You said the deer drink blood? They're vampires?

[His features darken considerably as he stares at the creature's body. It's hard for him to turn off those instincts - destroy the black, destroy the rot. One hand hovers toward it and he lowers it.]

...I haven't observed them in the wild eating any of the plant life. Though some of the local flowers seem to have evolved defenses mechanisms that are...very impressive.

[Like the one that gave him an electric shock. I've been far too focused on my own problems. I need to remember how to do real science.

He stares at his hands in frustration and clenches his teeth.]

Let me get a jar for you. Where do you keep them?

scales_and_silence: (hairtouch)

[personal profile] scales_and_silence 2018-09-14 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Alex points at one of the higher shelves] I'm not sure if vampire entirely accurate, more like mosquitoes than the undead.

At least as far as I can tell. I mean, that's the first one I've had a chance to look at, and I'm not the first scavenger to find it. I only have about half of its digestive system, if that. [He sounds more annoyed at the unanswered questions than he is about digging around in a miniature deer's gut.]
houmaprotector: (Deep in the green)

[personal profile] houmaprotector 2018-09-15 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'll bring you another one.

[He wants to be disturbed by how killing the red has become instinct. He wants to be, but it's the only degree of control that he has.]

You've built yourself a great lab here. If I get you some ingredients you could distill them for chemical compounds.
scales_and_silence: (in a hurry)

[personal profile] scales_and_silence 2018-09-15 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
[That offer earns Alec a rather wide-eyed look]

That would honestly be even better than getting me a deer. If I could cook up a half-decent tranquilizer, my job would be so much easier.
houmaprotector: (Deep in the green)

[personal profile] houmaprotector 2018-09-16 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
...Easily.

[This is an intriguing proposition.]

You may as well ask me your questions. If we're going to be working together you deserve to ask.
scales_and_silence: (brooding with tree)

[personal profile] scales_and_silence 2018-09-16 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
My parents raised me knowing it's rude to ask a person what they are. It's only my business if you want to tell me.

[He takes the empty jar, and begins to tap at the crystals with something solid enough to break some of the more delicate ones off, and collect whatever other detritus comes away with them in the jar's open mouth]

But I'll listen to whatever you are willing to tell me.
houmaprotector: (hmph.)

[personal profile] houmaprotector 2018-09-16 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Your parents...knew beings like me?

[He tilts his head to stare at him, watching his hands work. Surprise? That's an understatement. His hand reaches for the creature and leaves a smear on the creature.]

I'm a plant elemental.
scales_and_silence: (Default)

[personal profile] scales_and_silence 2018-09-16 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, not exactly like you- I'm pretty sure I'd remember that from the family field guides- but I'm familiar enough with the idea of ambulatory plants. You're a lot bigger and more articulate and sentient than a screaming yam, admittedly.

[He screws the lid back onto the jar and shakes it a little, watching to see if the crystals melt or not.]
houmaprotector: (angry swamp thing)

[personal profile] houmaprotector 2018-09-17 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Your world has contact with ambulatory plants but not the green?

[Interesting. Very interesting.] I can provide you with tubers if needed. Well, I would if this place hadn't limited my abilities.

And all plants are sentient, they just don't often chose to talk back.
