Test Drive

→ Choose one of the scenarios below or make up your own. Feel free to try multiple scenarios.

→ Write LOGS or TEXT prompts, or both.

THERE ARE ONLY THREE RULES FOR THE TDM:
1. It has to take place in the 6I universe.
2. It cannot be the character's arrival into the game.
3. Please only test new characters who do not have a version in the game. Our cast list is here.

→ TDM threads cannot be used to meet AC, but if the character is accepted into the game and both players agree, you may keep the CR.

Prompts

Happy anniversary, villagers! Buckle up!

  1. HEAT WAVE - Poor you. All you were trying to do was get yourself a little something to eat from the kitchen at the inn. Maybe you cooked it up yourself (The inn does, after all, have an electric stove — FANCY!), or maybe you just grabbed some leftovers. By accident or on purpose, you ended up with way more RED SALT in there than you maybe should have, and this is no ordinary seasoning. Whether you like things eye-wateringly spicy or not, it's August, you're sweating buckets, and it's only getting worse.

  2. SKUNK DRUNK - Isn't that just the way? You're out and about, minding your own business, and you get sprayed by a BROWN SKUNK. The good news? It doesn't stink like a normal skunk. The also possibly good news, depending on who you ask? You're now in for about 5 hours of being very, very friendly. (Just remember to keep the test drive PG!)

  3. BRAIN CANDY - Whether you made it to the anniversary party or not, you've gotten your hands on a piece of leftover candy from the big bash. Careful, though, these treats are more than meets the eye: Whatever COLOR it was, you've now taken on the associated personality traits. (Not the power, just the traits.) At least it only lasts 10 minutes.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Texts

All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.

- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name

Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.

Alex is used to that look. He's even used to getting that look from his personal assistant, who has snakes for hair she hides under a beehive wig. He has accepted that getting this look on a regular basis is part of his life, and he can do nothing to stop it. Even when he doesn't talk about the cryptid world, he's used to that look, because he's the Guy In The Reptile House.

"I'm not local, no, but I'm used enough to things... roughly as weird, when it comes to animals. And getting pulled in to other planes of existence isn't exactly unheard of in my family," he admits. "And I've also been to Australia, so- I'm about as prepared for this as anyone could be, I guess."

"Okay, I was in Australia once and it isn't anything like this. I'm traveled, I've seen things." With the military. Through a scope. Not the same thing but still. "This place though... I keep thinking it's the world's most elaborate prank but I can't figure out how they're pulling it," he admits, which may say a bit about the looks. Some people want to believe but have been burned too many times to let themselves.

"So you think this is what they say it is?" Tilting his head slightly, lips pressing together as he considers that. "You don't think its a prank?"

There's hope there but it comes with a furrowed brow from a man that is used to the world trying to make him look bad. Which he does so well on his own, it isn't as if he needs the help.

"Occam's razor and my admittedly second-hand knowledge of multiversal theory say probably not, no," Alex says, perhaps a little more dryly than he really intends to.

"But given what I do know about alternate universes, that we're currently standing on solid ground, breathing oxygen and not being eaten by snakes the size of subway trains makes us actually pretty fortunate, as far as these things go."

You do not get to be the God of Scales and Silence by being good at talking to people.

"Huh. That's... Okay that's better to imagine." Not that he has to believe Alex, but he also has no reason not to. Even Jake knows denying what he's seeing until it's proven a hallucination will get him as killed as trusting the things that aren't real.

Slowly Jake nods, figuring he's pretty right about all of that and it is true. And then he goes on about snakes the size of subways and Jake's nodding stops, chin back and mouth gaping once more.

"You had me. Even with alternate universes. Right until the snakes. Why would you say that? I mean, come on. The moment you say it? There's snake the size of the 'L'. Man, don't even tempt fate like that." He pauses, considering how much that could help those in the village though. Both in hide and meat. Which means... "Let me guess. They're poisonous, aren't they?"

"There are just a lot of universes that really like making snakes. But the one my sister killed was, as far as we could tell, something more akin to a boa constrictor or anaconda," Alex says, trying his best to sound reassuring. "And also would have had to have been a water-dwelling snake, or from somewhere with immensely less gravity than here to avoid crushing itself with its own weight." Pause. "You ever watch Dance or Die?"

"That is the least reassuring thing I've ever heard. I've been in enough river crossings with poisonous snakes that... nope. So more crushy than poisony. Okay then." His nose wrinkles. "There's not a universe full of cats the size of buses, are there?"

At least the pet griffin thing doesn't seem all cat, so it's meant to be intelligent. And seems way less sneaky.

His lips purse, trying to think about that. "I think I remember a music video by that name. Not what you're talking about though, I bet."

Alex's mind goes to an animated movie he'd watched with Sarah on one of her better days, with an actual Cat-Bus, but instead just shrugs at the idea. He's not gonna officially rule any possibility out.

"Reality dance show whose final episode contained a pretty excellent example of exactly that kind of giant snake and how to kill one," Alex explains, tossing Crow a liver cube from his pocket.

"I have apparently living in a really tame reality," Jake says, shaking his head. "No giant snakes. I mean, anacondas and risking black mambas which are deadly but not huge but... Wait, Dance or Die. Do they like really die?"

Given what this guy is talking about, Jake is really worrying that maybe he literally means a show that ends in death.

"No. Well, some people did during the snake thing, but it wasn't planned," Alex clarifies. "I don't know why people get it into their heads that summoning a giant snake is going to improve their lives in any way, but humanity never ceases to pump out idiots willing to buy into anything that promises an easy pay-out," says Alex, a little sadly.

"I doubt the snake even wanted to be summoned."

It's a good thing Alex is used to that look because Jake does not have the tact to not just stare at this man as if he's speaking two foreign languages, and both of them in a minor dialect at that.

"They... they summoned it? Like ..." He can't even come up with a like that fits. His mind just can't work that out. "I'm not sure if your world is amazing or terrifying." The answer Jake is yes. Yes it is. "Is that how you got that one?" He asks, pointing at Crow. "You summoned it?"

"No, I adopted him from an aviary trying to repopulate the lesser griffin population in North America," why would anyone ever= wait, no, he's still talking. "The ones not suited to living wild they adopt out. No idea how he ended up here with me- maybe whoever's in charge of these things just knows I need the icebreaker a mythological creature the size of a Maine Coon provides in order to actually talk to people."

Did he say that last part out loud? He did. Ah. Well. He's said it now. At least he didn't confess that he's almost wondering if this creature is really his Crow, or some aspect of his psyche manifesting as an outside entity in a familiar form.

"So they're common in your world." Not quite asking it but stating it based on the things that Alex is telling him. "They don't normally give them to just plebeians so you're, I guess, some kind of ranger or expert in griffins?"

He's dealt with other animal rescues so he knows how that can work. No it's totally not because he wanted to know if he could own a pet cougar that isn't on two legs. Who would do that?

Jake sort of perks at that, head canting slightly. "I usually use facts about why cats are evil, or ask about hobbies... of which mine mostly involve computers."
