Prompts

Happy anniversary, villagers! Buckle up!

1. HEAT WAVE - Poor you. All you were trying to do was get yourself a little something to eat from the kitchen at the inn. Maybe you cooked it up yourself (The inn does, after all, have an electric stove — FANCY!), or maybe you just grabbed some leftovers. By accident or on purpose, you ended up with way more RED SALT in there than you maybe should have, and this is no ordinary seasoning. Whether you like things eye-wateringly spicy or not, it's August, you're sweating buckets, and it's only getting worse.


2. SKUNK DRUNK - Isn't that just the way? You're out and about, minding your own business, and you get sprayed by a BROWN SKUNK. The good news? It doesn't stink like a normal skunk. The also possibly good news, depending on who you ask? You're now in for about 5 hours of being very, very friendly. (Just remember to keep the test drive PG!)


3. BRAIN CANDY - Whether you made it to the anniversary party or not, you've gotten your hands on a piece of leftover candy from the big bash. Careful, though, these treats are more than meets the eye: Whatever COLOR it was, you've now taken on the associated personality traits. (Not the power, just the traits.) At least it only lasts 10 minutes.


4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Skunk Drunk

Even after a week, Daniel is still waiting to wake up or at least come across some kind of clues that would explain where he was and why he was there. At least something more than the default 'sorry, I don't know what to tell you. you're just trapped here like the rest of us.'. Only he wasn't. There was a way out and all he had to do was find it.

He's been keeping to himself mostly, talked to a few people. But that afternoon, Daniel is on his way over to the inn when he comes across the brown skunk and before he passes the door he is smiling pleasantly and saying hello to everyone he passes by until he sits himself down in the dining hall.

[ he's managed to sit across from (1) john constantine who's still wearing scrubs so probably isn't all that used to this place either yet. or at least the inescapable nature of it. there's no food in front of him and his head is against his arms folded on the table top. ]

I was saving that seat.

[ someone is allllll smiles when he props his head up in a hand. one may say he looks a little... smitten. ]

Is one of those a grumpy English wizard? Because if so it's not the first or the last time I'll have heard that.

[ his head lolls up lazily, catching on that he's not shaking this guy. okay then. ]

Who's Hector then? Ex-boyfriend?

[ Another dashing smile. ]

Grumpy, yes. Can't say I've met a wizard before.

Hector's.. an old colleague, perpetual asshole unless he's drinking. Then you might see a smile. Maybe.

Anyone'd be grumpy next to you. Did you take a bite out of the Sun for breakfast? It's either that or you've gone balmy.

[ either one seems equally likely though fine, he slowly straightens up and squints like he's trying to suss daniel out. ]

Oh yeah? What was his drink?

[ Slowly he shakes his head, shrugging innocently.

Daniel puts a hand down on the table and turns his palm up. ]

Vodka, bourbon, tequila. You name it he drinks it.

I'm personally of the opinion that we're simply part of an experiment.

Kidnapped, I should imagine.

This is quite the elaborate backdrop for science, isn't it?

Then again, I've seen some people take some pretty extreme measures and not be part of any kind of experiment.

What sort of evidence have you found to suggest that?

Well, given your mysterious feasts being set up, I wouldn't be surprised if someone knows more than their saying.

And that sounds very government like. So, basically we're in an escape room from hell.

Someone is obviously here. How they're manipulating us is beyond my knowledge.

For now. I assume it has to do with drugs or a manipulation of time.

I'd say government, but I'm not sure which one, is my question.

The one that managed to figure out how to nab people who aren't from one place. Haven't met anyone with superhero powers until coming here.

Know some pretty damn smart people. Could be one of three governments where I'm from.

I had, but not quite in the way that I've met those here.

Besides, if you're powerful enough, you'd have agents everywhere. Anytime.

I tend to lay blame on a corrupt agency, myself.

Strange place but not much happens from what I see.

Karen's in the middle of her meal and pauses, bite of rabbit stew poised halfway to her mouth. Behind her lifted spoon, her eyebrows arch — Not because it's unusual to have company at one of the tables here, but because he looks a little bit like he's on a mission and they've never formally met.

"Hi," she says at length, and lowers the spoon back to her bowl with a soft clink.

When he lowers into the seat across from her, he's smiling and it's probably bordering on creepy depending on who you are. Thankfully, the ones who'd say that are far away and right now, she's the only one the smile is for.

"I'm Daniel," he introduces himself. "And I hope you don't mind me saying but you're really beautiful."

God, he's going to cringe at himself later over this.

Yes, waiting to take that bite was the smart move, as Karen suspects she might otherwise be choking on it now. Flirting she's used to, but even in a place like New York, that sort of unabashed come-on really wasn't common. It requires a very specific sort of man. As she lifts her hand to mouth and politely clears her throat, she considers the one in front of her.

"Karen," she replies, her smile a little wary. "Thank you."

He's said he hopes she doesn't mind the compliment, and truthfully she isn't sure. It's hard to say for certain yet whether this exchange will fall into the baldly earnest or creepy categories.

Kat came to the inn to eat and check on the friends she'd made since her arrival. It looked like everything was normal, as normal as this world could possibly be, though she couldn't shake the familiar feeling that something was about to go horribly wrong. It wasn't this world or anyone that gave her this feeling, it was just a persistent thing that wouldn't leave her alone.

"Oh hello."

She hadn't even noticed Daniel until he'd said hi to her on his way to his seat. She stared at him for a moment before taking a step towards his seat. "Do I know you? I don't think I've seen you around." There were plenty of people who Kat hadn't seen but she tried to know the face of those in the village.
