Prompts

July is going to be wet and wild, villagers. Keep an eye to the sky and hold onto your hats!

1. SAVING FACE - Look at you, trying to save that goat or dog or ZALPACA that's gotten stranded in a particularly nasty storm! You're a regular hero, trudging up that cliffside or swiming across that creek! Unfortunately, the sky didn't get the memo about your heroics, and it's just opened up even more. Finishing this job just got a heck of a lot worse. Good thing someone else just showed up to help both you and your animal pal. You hope. It's possible they're just there to laugh at you.


2. PANTS ON FIRE - You know what's great? When the storm breaks, the skies start to clear and everything looks sunny again. You know what's not? When the weather pushes the LYING MIST down from the mountainside while you're out trying to clean up. Hope you don't have any whoppers you're trying to keep secret!


3. SINK OR SWIM - The days when it's not storming are just beautiful, and the village river is running high. There are spots out of the current that are perfect for a cool dip or lounging on the shore, but take care you don't go out too far and get swept away. Oh, and watch out for the RAINBOW CRABS, those claws are sharp.


4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

This place was strange. Not like Limbo but Kat couldn't shake the feel that she was in two places at once. A piece of her felt like it was missing or out of place. Perhaps it wasn't this world. Maybe it was too many changes too fast. Whatever the cause, the feeling remained, gnawing unpleasantly in her chest.

Kat explored the town and then slowly began to find trails and paths that lead into the woods and surrounding area. She had lived her whole life in the city and had never seen anything as beautiful as the lush greenery of this world. Her fingers reached out, trailing along the damp branches and leaves, and she wondered if there was anywhere on Earth as beautiful as this.

The steady echo of the river entices her further north, where the trail she's following opens into a deep pool of water. Trees shade the area creating her own little oasis away from the town.

A rare smile touched the corner of Kat's lips as she stepped to the waters edge. She didn't know how to swim but the water looked shallow enough to touch the bottom. She glanced around, fully intending to strip and jump in when she realized that she wasn't alone.

"Excuse me." She asked, her tone gentle and kind. "Do you mind if I swim too?" Swim being a loose term since Kat didn't actually know how to swim.

He would have continued to stand there brooding had the voice not interrupted his thoughts. You've saved that piece of bank from a good long broody stare Kat. He blinked a few times his brows lofting as he actually stepped back from the waters edge. " Oh, no not at all." he spoke waving his hand toward the water.

He offered a friendly enough smile. " You won't even know I am here." he thumbed toward the book that he had tossed with his towel back behind him.

The bank didn't deserve Sam's broody stare.

Kat glanced back at the book and then nodded. Her original plan had been to strip down to her underwear to go swimming but that didn't seem like such a good idea with unknown company. So she rolled up her pants leg and dipped her feet into the pond, relishing the cool touch of the waters currents.

"What are you reading?" She hadn't seen too many books here but then she hasn't explored that much of the village.

Of course it does, it is sitting there being all....banky. It started it.

Sam would agree with the extra shade of caution, and he was also being a little more on guard than he would have been in private, or around people he knew. He blinked and looked to the book. " I..uh..actually have no idea." there was a little chuckle as he rubbed the back of his neck. " I came to get some air and take a break from all the reading and..." he waved toward the book. " I guess I was side tracked."

Kat's expressions softened. "Are you new?"

She reached out towards the water and ran her fingers over the surface of the currents. She's never seen anything so beautiful as this stream; living in the city never gave her that chance.

There was a small laugh from him. " Am I that obvious?"

He'd traveled all around the county with his brother, there were few places that were quite as nice as this. Finally, he bent down taking a seat in the grass. " I'm Sam."

She shook her head from side to side, hoping to put him at ease. Kat had never intended to put him on the spot or make him feel uncomfortable. She had a good eye for reading people though. "A little. I'm new too."

"I'm Kat. It's nice to meet you Sam." Considering the situation, Kat is happen to meet someone who isn't a demon, and who isn't crazy. "Can I ask... what are you thinking about?" She didn't actually expect him to answer. After all, she's a stranger and she knows enough from her life in the city to respect anyone's distrust in her. The world is a cruel place for those who put themselves out there.

He would forever be on a slight edge around new people. He'd seen some shit in his time, Kat wasn't giving him the heebies or anything though. " Makes sense that you could smell other fresh meat." he said making bad jokes, it was his thing lately.

" Like wise." he said, and he was really glad to not be exposed to all the crazy just yet, she seems quite nice. She asked what he was thinking about he shifted his eyes back to the river. " Uh..Home actually." surprise he answered! Not that he would get into massive details at this point, but a simple answer couldn't hurt.

Kat didn't laugh though there was a hint of amusement in her dark emerald green eyes. "That sounds like it'd smell awful." Not that she wasn't used to bad smells though it was a poorly worded joke.

That she secretly liked. Kat liked bad jokes.

"Yeah? I was thinking about friends." She looked back at the water and dipped her fingers into the stream. "Home is... I've never really had a home but there are people that I care about. One of them is here. I think this place is better for him than home was but the other." She shrugged. "I can't help but worry about him."

Kat was always worrying.
