Prompts

July is going to be wet and wild, villagers. Keep an eye to the sky and hold onto your hats!

1. SAVING FACE - Look at you, trying to save that goat or dog or ZALPACA that's gotten stranded in a particularly nasty storm! You're a regular hero, trudging up that cliffside or swiming across that creek! Unfortunately, the sky didn't get the memo about your heroics, and it's just opened up even more. Finishing this job just got a heck of a lot worse. Good thing someone else just showed up to help both you and your animal pal. You hope. It's possible they're just there to laugh at you.


2. PANTS ON FIRE - You know what's great? When the storm breaks, the skies start to clear and everything looks sunny again. You know what's not? When the weather pushes the LYING MIST down from the mountainside while you're out trying to clean up. Hope you don't have any whoppers you're trying to keep secret!


3. SINK OR SWIM - The days when it's not storming are just beautiful, and the village river is running high. There are spots out of the current that are perfect for a cool dip or lounging on the shore, but take care you don't go out too far and get swept away. Oh, and watch out for the RAINBOW CRABS, those claws are sharp.


4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

First, you start by getting about five years older, then you get about a foot taller, THEN you learn how to fight so you don't get yourself killed.
After that you can put in an internship.

I hate to break it to you, Dad, but I've been having to fight and survive my entire life. Stop the ageist bullshit and tell me about what's out there before your attempt to protect me gets me killed.

I get where you're coming from. The thing is I don't think you can convince away the collective impulse to try and protect our resident youth, it's kind of why we survived as a species for so long.

That and unless you can benchpress your body weight I think you're gonna have a real hard time wrestling a wendigo.

So let's go ahead and establish that the only way you get killed is if you do something dumb like run out there and try to find one to prove something

I survived as long as I did back home by making sure to stay in the safety zones, alright? I'm not some dumb kid with a death wish. I don't have anything to prove. I want to know if I need to find a weapon or something to protect myself.

Humans have survived as long as we have because we're lucky. But where I come from, we're almost gone. Kids are usually the first to go.

We've got a storeroom full of them. If you need them, they're there.
For the most part, it's safe. We've got shelter, we've got capable people, and so far the biggest threats have been thunderstorms and animals.

Or else I'd be doing a lot more every day than just chopping wood, trust me.

Fine. I trust you for now. I'm new here, I don't know how this place works. I'm just trying to find something to do so I'm not bored and sitting around. I'm not really used to having all this free time, you know?

I definitely understand.
You might be interested in the half dozen or so advertisements people have been offering for lessons. Seen some for hand to hand, some for archery.

If you want to be ready for something, learning might not be a bad place to start.
