Prompts

July is going to be wet and wild, villagers. Keep an eye to the sky and hold onto your hats!

  1. SAVING FACE - Look at you, trying to save that goat or dog or ZALPACA that's gotten stranded in a particularly nasty storm! You're a regular hero, trudging up that cliffside or swiming across that creek! Unfortunately, the sky didn't get the memo about your heroics, and it's just opened up even more. Finishing this job just got a heck of a lot worse. Good thing someone else just showed up to help both you and your animal pal. You hope. It's possible they're just there to laugh at you.

  2. PANTS ON FIRE - You know what's great? When the storm breaks, the skies start to clear and everything looks sunny again. You know what's not? When the weather pushes the LYING MIST down from the mountainside while you're out trying to clean up. Hope you don't have any whoppers you're trying to keep secret!

  3. SINK OR SWIM - The days when it's not storming are just beautiful, and the village river is running high. There are spots out of the current that are perfect for a cool dip or lounging on the shore, but take care you don't go out too far and get swept away. Oh, and watch out for the RAINBOW CRABS, those claws are sharp.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Texts

All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.

- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- No usernames, everyone is listed by their name

Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.

Vergil sighed, it looked like he was taking his stray brother home. "Come along, Dante, this way. As for fire, we are indeed at rudimentary levels... but I am trying to get the furnace going. It's...in need of repairs." He cut through the backyard of the house they had dipped behind... heading for the river in the distance, a bridge goes across it to a mill. Vergil lived just past the mill.

"We are, as they say, roughing it. Get used to it. Do you see my hair? I look like you." Who was that an insult towards?

Folding the paper up, Dante sauntered along in Vergil's wake, eventually pulling up next to him with a few long strides.

"So like.. Extreme camping." He sounded more okay with this then he should and rightly so; Dante was in for a rude wake-up call.

"Sad that it takes this to get you to embrace your true hotness," he finished with a grin, one hand carding up through the hair that fell flat back where it was. "Does this mean we're in outhouse territory?"

The walk wasn't that far, but given it was already getting dark there seemed to be no lights, and Vergil hadn't figured out the fine art of candle making so his house across the bridge and down the way was as dark as his heart.

"I suppose, do I look like I have ever been camping Dante?" He looked to his brother a moment, as a sad thought crossed his mind... his brother had such a hard life. How many nights had he slept under underpasses or in abandoned buildings? Never, Vergil hoped.

"..." He gave his brother a flat look a moment as they started over the bridge to head towards the mill. "Luckily no, each home is equipted with working plumbing, but no power. There is a furnace, I have already gotten that functioning so we have hot water in the bathroom and heat if we needed it... but no lights." He wasn't sure his brother really wanted to come with him, but even in the twilights darkness it was easy to see the house they were apporching was light blue with red brick.

Inside was fully furnished but lacked personal touches. Like furnature was there but no pictures or anything, Just some a book on the table as Vergil lead them inside heading through the darkness towards the kitchen at the back.

"I'm surprised you know what camping is, really." Of course he was being sarcastic, he already knew that Vergil read his way into most of his intelligence, but Dante didn't mind being the stupid brother.

"Oh good. At least we have that dignity. Good job." Hot water was a commodity that Dante could appreciate. He had spent a night or three on the streets, but even his trailer didn't have hot water. There wasn't any furnace hookup on the pier.

"Damn, this it? You have all the luck - even here you get a nice joint."

He rolled his eyes, not even humoring looking beside him to his brother. He knew Dante was being sarcastic he could hear it, but he did deserve it. He was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth. Their only luck had been his paranoia had granted them hot water because he refused to call people in to fix the old furnace in the hide out. Dante was the smart brother in matters of the heart, and combat.

"Mostly." Its not like they had a corner store to run in get TP. "But yes, you at least do not have to use a bush." He is certain, he would even put money on the fact someone is going to catch his brother pissing in a bush before the weeks up.

Vergil sighed a little once he reached the dark kitchen. His journal and pack tossed on the counter as he opened drawers looking for the makeshift flint he had found thanks to the survival guide. He knelled by the fireplace. Which he had thankfully filled with little shaved branches before he left. Since he spends most of his nights by the fire place for the light. He knelled to start striking the rocks, not looking up to his brother as he made an offer that felt a little wrong after all that had transpired... but he spent to long seeking Dante not to offer.

"It could be yours as well... If you want." He had not offered it to Kat yet, in fact he lied to her and said he lived in the Inn...

"Cool," he said, eyes scanning the living room, feet blindly following his brother as he tried to make out all the details he could in the falling light. "Kinda surprised at how dark it is in here.."

The offer made him blink, heart swelling - he wanted everything to be okay between them.. But he couldn't trust Vergil. The reminder felt like he'd been stabbed instead of his brother and Dante scoffed, eyes narrowing.

"Yeah right. Like I'm gonna listen to you all day..." But the sentiment wasn't as confident as Dante would have liked. He wanted to know his brother, to somehow make things the way they were when they were boys again. They'd had so much fun..

"How many rooms this place got, anyway? Not that I care."

Vergil got a spark after a few hits, and the kindling catching as he stayed kneeled, blowing out to held fan the baby flames to catch more. Once he was confident it wouldn't just go out he pushed himself up, the rocks replaced to the drawer as the small bits of light started to illuminate, Vergil, then pushed a chair towards his brother.

Moving through a darkened walkway just a moment before reappearing with a second chair. He had gone into the dining room. "You don't listen to me anyway, so what would be new?" he quipped though nothing could hide the underlying hurt in his tone.

Taking a seat he crossed one leg over another. "You will also have to forgive me brother, I have nothing to offer you here, aside from a makeshift tea, and you seem hardly interested in such." Herbal tea mixture with no sugar or honey? Yum. Vergil wanted his brother to stay but he couldn't do more than offer, not after the bad blood had been split.

"Three bedrooms, I was in the front room. It was the largest, but there are issues with the furnace, so, I have moved to the end of the house to be able to check on it when it acts up." He explained, he hated giving up the big room but at 2am when something the furnace starts knocking it's better to get down to the cellar than to roll out of a bigger room. "Not that I need all of the space, but the inn was quite full and I am not fond of crowds."

Dante watched Vergil tend the wood fire stove, iron door left swinging open to facilitate actual light, and he snagged a twig that was twirled in his fingers as he swung one leg over the back of the chair to plop down into it, blue eyes following his brother as he moved around and eventually settled.

"Eh, you've done plenty," he said dismissively with no hint of bitterness. "Got any containers in here?" Shortsightedness meant that Dante didn't know quite what to do with the weed he'd snagged - it was a decent amount, enough to get him through a few weeks, but he had nothing to store it in.

"Only time I like dorms is when they're filled with collage girls. Anyone got an extra head or are they pretty much normal?" He knew he'd get a taste of Vergil's opinions for the people, though how much he could trust the words were always on debate. It was a start anyway and now that his eyes were open, he wasn't going to let the wool get pulled back down.

His brother looked tired, but that was from a lack of sleep brought on by too much silence. He was used to sleeping with the sounds of the city, the hum of computers... Never this eerie silence.

Vergil was sure the words were meant to be a sword of their own... He had done to much. He pushed off the chair and mover to the counter. Something in a sugar jar was dumped on the counter. Something crinkly. He carried the almost to large jar over and held it out. "It has a seal, the best tou will find in these parts." His herbs were already dried it would be fine.

"And that is why I lived in an apartment through college. I hate dorms." Of course he went to college. "There is a man nearly seven foot with bull horns... He's rather nice." He shrugged some "and a blue haired girl they call Barbeque fork." He explained with a slight shrug, crossing his arms over his chest.

"How about a lead? Would a dried left work better than notebook paper? There are oak leaves dried out in the yard."

[personal profile] trailertrash 2018-08-05 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Standing up as he took the jar, it was settled into his seat so he could hand over fist empty out his pockets, shaking the dust debris of it on the floor before taking his seat again, setting the jar between his feet as he settled back.

"You would have," he said, with a big of a huff, eyes locked back on his brother as he leaned his elbows on his knees. 'Barbeque fork' got a half chuckle too. "Could be worse, I guess. They could be demons.."

Glancing down at his weed with the question, Dante shrugged. "If it's not dried too much, I suppose. I'll.. go lookin tomorrow. Find a way to pay back your piece of paper. Why are you doing all this?"

Brotherly love only went so far, right? Dante had done well to avoid asking, to avoid booping their issues on the nose, but he couldn't keep to light small talk anymore, not when Vergil was trying so hard.

Vergil made a face, the same face he had made when Dante spit the virility onto the floor. That trying to be happy but low key disgusted face.

"Was it ever a doubt?" He asked, though he knew Dante hadn't he felt he held himself in a way an educated man should. Even if he had never really did the crazy frat stuff. Just wasn't his cup of tea. "There are demons." He spoke honestly. "Not like those we know, and they are powerful." He wouldn't show the bandages on his arm where one swiped him, and the cut on his palm was mostly healed, so he didn't plan to share he had been hurt in the last attack.

"Do not worry about the paper, I have already memorized it as I said. You and the things you need are worth more than a sheet of paper." He spoke, feeling that chest pain rise as he really let Dante's words weigh on him. Why was he?

"You're my brother. I have told you before, no matter what all we have is each other...and Kat." He had a feeling if he didn't include Kat he was going to get hit. "I don't expect the same of you, but, I want to make sure you are taken care of."
trailertrash: (Huh)

[personal profile] trailertrash 2018-08-06 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
No, never a doubt, though that might imply that Dante had given it thought, which he hadn't. School was something he'd spurred, just like foster homes and paying, responsible jobs.

"What, here?" That changed things, especially if Vergil wasn't pulling his leg, if they really were human now. But if Vergil was saying so, then Dante had to believe him - at least about this.

Dante leaned back in his chair, weed forgotten for a moment, as he considered his brother.

"Even after our little, uh.. disagreement?" Even if he was right, or more importantly because he'd been right, he expected Vergil to .. be bitter. "You know I didn't want that to be the way it ended, right?"

The question came as he leaned forward, hands settling out on his knees. "I wanted it to be us against the world. Us and Kat." But he'd yelled at her.

Dante could have been a great Frat boy, he could have been king of the campus on little brother's bank roll.

"Yes, here, they are strange but they are clearly demons." He explained as he pushed watched his brother. They were kind of just watching each other for now. Vergil was trying to pull his weight but... well. He wasn't that good as a human.

"You devil triggered, it is part of what happens... haven't you ever questioned why I don't?" He had nearly lost his humanity, it had been Kat who told him he couldn't risk triggering again. "I will admit, we will never agree on that, and yes, I am still hurt. That, however does not change the fact we are brothers." He broke eye contact to look in the fire.

He let what Dante said rattle in his head a few moments before he cleared his throat and spoke. "...I thought that was what we had. Well, and Kat." He sighed quietly wishing he could escape away. He felt emotionally exposed.

The Administration would call them HellRaisers for sure. No doubt there'd be trouble.

No, he hadn't questioned that at all. Dante had assumed Vergil was just that suave, that powerful, that he didn't need to trigger.. Until Dante forced him to. He held his brothers gaze unwaveringly.

We're still brothers. It did Dante good to hear that, something in his brow easing slightly as he let that roll over in his head.

"We did. Til it went sideways..." He glanced down at his hands, fingers picking at one palm in a useless, idle movement. "I know, she's here too...This is a new world, ya know. No power vacuum. Hell, no Power. No disagreement on whether or not you need a throne, either."

And Hellraisers they would be.

The gaze on his he gave a slight shrug. "It was Kat who advised me to not trigger anymore, I did often not long before we found you, the problem was, it was chipping away at my humanity. Kat could feel it apparently." He shrugged a bit. Maybe a loss of humanity was why it seemed alright to enslave humanity. Who knows. "You lose pigment, I lose humanity. A pair we make."

Vergil couldn't help a chuckle at that. "Even I do not want to be king of shit mountain. Dearest Dante."
