Prompts

July is going to be wet and wild, villagers. Keep an eye to the sky and hold onto your hats!

1. SAVING FACE - Look at you, trying to save that goat or dog or ZALPACA that's gotten stranded in a particularly nasty storm! You're a regular hero, trudging up that cliffside or swiming across that creek! Unfortunately, the sky didn't get the memo about your heroics, and it's just opened up even more. Finishing this job just got a heck of a lot worse. Good thing someone else just showed up to help both you and your animal pal. You hope. It's possible they're just there to laugh at you.


2. PANTS ON FIRE - You know what's great? When the storm breaks, the skies start to clear and everything looks sunny again. You know what's not? When the weather pushes the LYING MIST down from the mountainside while you're out trying to clean up. Hope you don't have any whoppers you're trying to keep secret!


3. SINK OR SWIM - The days when it's not storming are just beautiful, and the village river is running high. There are spots out of the current that are perfect for a cool dip or lounging on the shore, but take care you don't go out too far and get swept away. Oh, and watch out for the RAINBOW CRABS, those claws are sharp.


4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

I have a lot of questions but I guess I'll start with, what's your name?

Barnes, if it matters.
Everyone has questions when they first show up, sometime shortly after the near-drowning. Fire away.

How many people are here? How long has everyone been around? Did everyone arrive here the same way?

More than twenty, less than a hundred, I think it varies.
Most have been here a few months, know a few that have been here for years.
Probably not. Apparently a few months back the topography used to be different; turned from a canyon into an island.

Do you know how that happened?
I mean the canyon turning into an island.

Yes and no.
Apparently whatever brought us here is capable of it. Snatching people from time and space, from other universes. Technology like that, what's a little mass remodeling?

I've been to another world before, one parallel to the Earth I know, but it'd been like waking through a path. Nothing that could have snatched us.

Are there no clues?

They leave notes sometimes. Instructions, orders. Not exactly a manifesto or blueprints to an escape hatch.

Sounds vague and unhelpful.

What do you do around here then?

chop wood and drink. sometimes at the same time.

That at least doesn't sound like a total waste of time.

Take that to mean you know a special technique for drunk chopping?

I've met a man who was more capable when he was drunk than when he was sober.

Scary sentiment. Guess I can't argue it, I know a guy who only ever managed to play darts after four shots. Couldn't miss after that, it was uncanny.

I guess I should ask if you often chop wood while drunk.

unfortunately not, I think Sam would kill me if I started blowing through her potato vodka.

Do they have rice here? I might be able to make something for us to drink.

[It's a big maybe but if Danny has the time then he's going to try.]

Unfortunately not. Not a single grain from what I've seen so far.

some of the stuff you'd normally expect, produce, stuff like that
and then damn green milk and rainbow crabs
