Prompts

Summer is here, villagers! Sunny skies, warm weather and plenty of weirdness are on the horizon. Don't forget your sunscreen!

1. THE MILK FOR FREE - Somehow, someway, you have been wrangled into milking one of the GROFFLES recently rounded up by your fellow villagers. Maybe you felt guilty for not helping, or maybe you owe someone scary money. Point is, it's just you, a bucket, and your green milk-giving friend. Just a tip: Groffles are good-natured, but you probably shouldn't squeeze too hard.


2. LIGHTNING ROD - Earlier today, you made your way into the upper foothills — Were you hunting? Maybe just roaming? — and you came into contact with a BLUE LILY. Maybe you thought it was so pretty you've carried it back to the village with you. If your house didn't have electricity before, it definitely does now!


3. MEET CUTE - It's a classic: You've gone down into the 6I INN'S dirt-walled root cellar off the kitchen. Maybe you needed supplies or were dropping off some fresh produce. Whatever the case, someone's followed you down for a similar reason... and the door has jammed shut behind them. Seriously, it's not budging. Enjoy getting to know your new best friend in the cozy light of the furnace!


4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

"Are you sure that is a cow?" Danny smiles slightly as he comes up behind Lito, carrying a bucket of milk himself. It is something that still feels strange to the Jersey boy but at least he has learned. He sets the bucket down and then comes over to place a hand on Lito's shoulder, crouching down next to him. "Need some help, buddy?"

Lito looks up with a pained look in his eyes, looking like he's been told that his life is going to end, versus being stuck in front of a strange cow-like creature. "Isn't this what cows look like?" he replies, cluelessly.

It's probably very evident, very quickly, that Lito is not a country or a farm boy and has never actually seen a real cow with his own two eyes outside of media and television. The one in front of him looks close enough, but what's in the bucket doesn't. "Why is it that colour?" he demands. "Did you do something to the milk? Is the cow sick?"

Danny smiles at him. He knows that feeling. "We don't really have animals like we're used to here. This one is close enough to what we know as a cow and the milk might look weird, but it is drinkable. I more meant are you sure that isn't a bull..." He walks over to the bucket. "You hungry? You can come back with me and I'll make you some lunch and then we can go out here together and I'll show you how to do it?"

Lito isn't sure what the other man means, because the cow looks plenty like it's just fine. He gives it a long look, like he's accusing it with his eyes of not telling the truth, but then, a liar can spot a liar, can't it? It's probably for the best that he doesn't actually end up milking it, because that's just no good for anyone.

"Starving," he complains. "And I've done several keto diets where I barely got to eat anything," he adds, which means that he's genuinely hungry to be wanting to have anything. "I shouldn't have let anyone convince me to try and help with the animals, it was never going to lead to anywhere good."

"Keto?" Danny is not up to speed on diets and especially not being someone who loves Italian food the idea of eating low-carb would not go over well. "And you can learn, I did, but you learn better when you're not hungry." He offers Lito a hand to help him up and tries to hide that he is looking the guy over. Part habit to check for weapons or injuries and part because Lito looks good.

"It's not far to the house I live in. We got a place you can clean up too if you like."

Lito, not ashamed of his body at all, lifts his scrubs shirt (which he's very used to wearing, given all the medical soap operas he's done in his life) to show off his abs, shrugging like this is all natural and a god-given gift, when really it's because of diet and exercise and then more exercise and not getting to eat any of Hernando's incredible cooking when he's on a plan.

"It's just depressing," he admits, "but," he adds, patting his stomach, "it does make you look like this."

Lito's look after Danny is searching and he takes his hand. "You have a house? How do you get a house?" Without someone to help guide him, he hasn't been very good at...well, anything here. It's not like they're desperately needing actors, after all.

With the show, Danny doesn't bother to hide that he is looking. "Damn, you're giving Steve a run for his money and he looks like Superman." Yeah, Danny's been looking. Hard not to when you go surfing with him.

"Well, I moved in with Steve and his sister Mary. Steve's my partner back home. But I am pretty sure they just moved in after checking that it was empty. It's not very big but got enough rooms for all of us."

Lito beams, seeing as he's done a lot of work to keep himself in shape and he's not exactly Mr. Modest about this (or anything), so he thinks that maybe it's worth all the suffering and the pain. "Your partner," he echoes. There's a look in his eyes that's reverent and respectful.

"They let you have that sort of thing here openly?" Lito asks, because maybe it's just his English, or maybe his hope, but it's good to think about, either way.

Danny blinks and then shakes his head. "Steve and I are just work partners. I don't know if he is interested in guys, I've only ever seen him with women."

But that doesn't change the important part here. "But yes, it depends a little on where you are but in most big cities being a gay couple is not going to give you trouble. As for here in the village. I doubt anyone would give you any trouble about it."

"Oh," Lito replies, his mind quickly fumbling in order to try and reverse back, to try and allay suspicion, but then he remembers that he's been out for some time now. Old habits die hard. "English, it's not my first language," he admits.

"And I'm gay," he admits bluntly, "so when I hear partners, I think of this." It's strange to be so forward about it, but maybe it's a new way of life, provided Danny doesn't treat him poorly for it. "You don't care?" he asks, carefully.

"You speak it well." Danny smiles warmly at him, he honestly means that. "Much better than my Spanish or Russian." He shrugs at the question. "No, I don't. Would be hypocritical of me to do so. I'm bi, leaning more towards women but there's been the odd guy. And if anyone here gives you any shit about it they can fuck off." He takes a breath. "That being said, not everyone here is from a culture or time that accepts it, might take them some time to get used to but I am sure they can."

"I had to learn, if I wanted to be a movie star in Hollywood," Lito replies earnestly, remembering in his childhood how he would watch as many movies as he could in order to learn the lines and become a famous actor in his dreams. He still had his accent, of course, but at least he could speak English very well.

"My boyfriend, he isn't here," Lito says, with a sad look in his eyes, "Hernando, he was my everything, he was the reason I was fine with letting myself be gay." Which is exaggerating a little, because he wasn't so fine with it.

He took it very, very badly, after all.

"True enough." Danny smiles at him. Then the smiles fade a little. "I get what you mean. My daughter isn't here either, I miss her so incredibly much." He shakes his head. "And it is good that you found someone." He reaches out to squeeze Lito's shoulder.

Lito is a good actor, which is why he doesn't make a face of panic and unsettled wariness at the mention of children, who he still doesn't really know how to be around. Instead, he nods, understanding, like he really cares.

"Does it matter, if he's not here?" Lito points out, feeling like he can love Hernando all he wants, but he's not around for Lito to be with, now that he's open about it.

"Well, I think it does. But that depends on you." He nods to one of the houses. "That's home." Then he continues with his thought. "I hope we get to go home from this place one day, and I really hope the people we love are still there."

Lito can't even imagine a life without Hernando in it, which makes him look more than a little sad. He's not even trying to hide it, which means he probably looks pathetic, helped on by the fact that he's really thirsty and hungry. "Now you've gone and made me depressed and I bet you haven't even got ice cream to make it better," he maligns.

Danny looks over at him in disbelief. "I thought icecream is a no on the whole diet thing." At least it tends to be on most diets. But then he shakes his head. "I am sorry."

As they arrive at the house he holds the door open for Lito. "Kitchen is that way, bathroom is over there if you feel you need to clean up or anything." He heads over to the kitchen starting the cooking by getting a fire going in the stove and getting some water on to boil. "We don't have coffee but I can make you some tea."

"It usually is, but not when you're depressed and missing your boyfriend very much," Lito says with a pained look in his eyes. Besides, it's not like there are movie cameras lurking around anywhere here, so he feels like it's fine if he suddenly lets his body go.

No one is going to care, are they? "Tea would be good," he adds, lurking in the house and picking things up, not really wanting any other permission. "And whatever food you can make easily and quickly."

Danny nods and sets about making him food. Soon enough there are hardboiled eggs, some preserved meat and flatbread and fresh butter on the table. And warm tea. "You like milk in your tea, Lito?"

The table is set for two and Danny sits down at the table with him. The whole house is cosy but it is missing pictures or anything that really tell you much about the lives of the people who live here.

"I don't really do dairy," Lito replies off-hand, like this is a casual thing that he replies and feels comfortable talking about with anyone. It's probably a little picky and rude, but honestly, it inflames him and it doesn't make him feel so very good, which is why he should avoid it.

He looks around, searching for something that gives him an indication of how other people live (so he can compare himself, of course). "I guess they didn't have designers, back in this time?"

"Yeah, not even cheese?" Danny loves cheese and he has plans for figuring out how to make mozzarella now that they have milk. "You thinking about the scrubs? It's just what we get. You should see Steve, he is furious about them not being cargo pants." He chuckles slightly. "Alright, the table is set."

"Cheese is dairy, it will make everything inflame and then I will lose all the abs I've worked so hard to earn," he despairs, seeing as if he can't have Hernando here, then the only thing going for him is his incredible body, which means that he absolutely needs to maintain it.

Sitting at the table, Lito stares at the formless scrubs. "Is no one here a tailor who can maybe take them in?" he suggests, with a hopeful look in his eyes.

"That would be a pity." Danny shakes his head a little. He's never understood what the whole deal with abs was about anyway. He looks down at the second question. Looking over his own scrubs. "Not that I know of. You think they need to be taken in?"

"I think that everyone's needs more tailoring," Lito says with the judging look of a man who's long thought these things privately while watching drag shows, but never said out loud. "I mean, you have a very nice chest," he praises.

"But those? No, they don't show it off," he says, wagging his finger at him.

Danny smiles a little. He might not look like Lito or Steve but he is proud of his chest. "True, I tend to like my shirts a little more fitted than this. But there is only so much I can do you know."
