Prompts

Summer is here, villagers! Sunny skies, warm weather and plenty of weirdness are on the horizon. Don't forget your sunscreen!

  1. THE MILK FOR FREE - Somehow, someway, you have been wrangled into milking one of the GROFFLES recently rounded up by your fellow villagers. Maybe you felt guilty for not helping, or maybe you owe someone scary money. Point is, it's just you, a bucket, and your green milk-giving friend. Just a tip: Groffles are good-natured, but you probably shouldn't squeeze too hard.

  2. LIGHTNING ROD - Earlier today, you made your way into the upper foothills — Were you hunting? Maybe just roaming? — and you came into contact with a BLUE LILY. Maybe you thought it was so pretty you've carried it back to the village with you. If your house didn't have electricity before, it definitely does now!

  3. MEET CUTE - It's a classic: You've gone down into the 6I INN'S dirt-walled root cellar off the kitchen. Maybe you needed supplies or were dropping off some fresh produce. Whatever the case, someone's followed you down for a similar reason... and the door has jammed shut behind them. Seriously, it's not budging. Enjoy getting to know your new best friend in the cozy light of the furnace!

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

A: Meet Cute

[ Of the multitude of occupations theoretically available to him, Steve would never once have guessed that amateur farmer would ever top that list. But here he is, in a strange place, learning how to plant vegetables and then harvest them when the time is right. Or season is right. Or both, actually, because no single vegetable species is the same when it comes to being ripe. (Ripe is the correct word, right?) He also does odd chores around when he can, preferring to keep busy.

Anyway, he's perfectly content to walk a basket of freshly harvested veggies over to the Inn. If his luck holds out, maybe he can talk to the manager about getting a winter job, but they aren't there. Steve makes his way into the cellar, setting the basket on top of some boxes. He can leave a note for the cook.

Before he can do that, though, someone comes down the stairs behind him. ]

I'll be out of your way in just a minute.

[Stalking is such an ugly word, though Peggy would like to insist that she's merely cautiously following Steve in the event that he gets into trouble and needs help. There's a certain amount of distance she's keeping, both because she's watched him go before, but also, it's rather a nice little hobby, watching Steve take up gardening. Eventually, though, she has to abandon following in order to actually contribute herself.

She hadn't meant to be at the Inn at the same time, but the fish she'd caught aren't going to keep in the sun and the cellar is the best place, which is how she ends up in this strange situation.

Though, basket of fish in her arms, on a set of stairs, well, it's hardly from a story book.]

Take your time. No need to rush and get us both reeking of fish.

[personal profile] ex_enlisted288 2018-05-28 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ Steve whirls around, only just managing not to knock over his basket. Or a few others. For a moment, he's not quite sure what to do with his hands, and ends up standing at parade rest for a few very long, very embarrassing moments. ]

Peg -- Agent -- Peggy.

[ He's aware she's here, but knowing, and talking over the network, is a far cry from actually seeing her in person. And maybe there's been a little bit of avoidance on his part, simply because he's not sure what to say. Amazing how it feels like no time has passed, like only five minutes earlier the two of them were discussing the assault on Schmidt's last base. ]

Hi.
womanofvalue: (bite your tongue)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-05-28 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a hand over her mouth, meant to hide her amusement, but she really ought to be covering her eyes, because that's where Steve will be able to see the fondness, but also the grief. It's been a long time since she'd seen him, here, but it gets no easier. Having him here again is so very strange, a shock that she's somewhat unprepared for.

At least it's a good one.]

Agent? Well, that's a bit more formal than I was expecting.

[She walks down the steps in order to start wrapping the fish and to shut them away, because she doesn't want to end up reeking of warm fish, so best to do something to keep herself distracted. It also prevents her from touching his face, feeling the warmth against her fingertips.]

Hello yourself. Again.

[personal profile] ex_enlisted288 2018-06-16 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry.

[ She took him by surprise, is all. Steve isn't the smoothest person around when it comes to social situations. Especially of this nature.

He shuffles to the side, trying to keep out of the way, and watches her work. Unsure if he should offer to help. Eventually, Steve comes up with something to say that doesn't sound incredibly stupid. Hopefully. ]

How are you?
womanofvalue: (fond)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-06-17 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Should she be honest with him? Peggy's not entirely sure because how she is fluctuates a great deal and how she is with him around tends to be a touchy subject, given the grief she's learned to live with as a result of his revolving door status.

You can only say goodbye so many times, she suspects, before it begins to wear on you. She's glad for the distraction of her work, careful not to get blood or guts anywhere.

As she works, she decides to let the answer be up to him, mainly because she also doesn't want to dare lie to him.]

Do you want the truth or something that will be pleasant?

[personal profile] ex_enlisted288 2018-06-18 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ Steve looks down for a moment.

You can say goodbye, or hello, as many times as necessary. It's something he's discovered since he started visiting the Peggy from his world in her assisted living facility. (Nursing home.) He's not sure he should mention that since it's years in her future. Or maybe not even then. ]

Whatever you feel comfortable with. [ he looks back up, a small smile in his face. ] Want some help with that?
womanofvalue: (still so young)

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-06-19 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'll always accept a helping hand.

[Especially from him, given that she misses what it feels like to be on the same page. It doesn't matter whether it's stealing a plane to sneak behind enemy lines or the simple task of sitting together at a briefing, it's these moments and memories that she always treasures, every time he's here.]

I'm grateful to see you again. The trouble is, I've grown so used to it and every time I get my hopes up that you'll stay and then...

[Well, then she learns her lesson. Nothing is permanent.]

Just a hike?

[Sam does't trust Steve Rogers saying 'hike' and it being that simple.]

[personal profile] ex_enlisted288 2018-06-16 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Got something against them?

[ it could be that Steve's definition of a hike doesn't conform to other people's definition. ]
twistedjudge: (who keeps bringin' these things?!)

[The ones in the village who are big and strong tend to be put to the more physical work, not that they seem to mind too much. Most days Fang goes out hunting, as she's found that it's one job that's very needed in the village - apparently they used to have more hunters, but a lot of them had disappeared somehow - but today's a day where all hands are needed in the fields, and she's fine with doing that sometimes. Not all the time, she's very much a creature of freedom, but it'll help the rest of the people here. And Vanille will be very disappointed in her if she doesn't. So she's been recruited for hauling duty, at least as long as the baskets people have woven from the local grass fibers hold up. After that, she suspects they'll be piling things in sheets to use as makeshift bundles.]

S'all right, can't be helped that there's a lack of space down here. [The place was clearly not dug for very tall people; she's tall and strong for a woman, but the man in front of her rivals Snow and she's a little amazed he hasn't smacked his head yet. Not that the surprise shows.] But this place'll be filled up soon, I wonder what they've got in mind for when-

[She's interrupted by a slam from behind them and Fang whirls, reaching for a weapon she doesn't have at the sudden noise. It looks like nothing, really - but the door behind them is now unmistakably shut.]

[personal profile] ex_enlisted288 2018-06-17 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
One of these days, maybe we can figure a way to expand it out. Y'know, without bringing everything down in the process.

[ Surely he's not that big. (yes, Steve, you are.) Most of the time he tries to minimize the space he takes up; hunched shoulders and slouching against various objects whenever possible. Right now, though, he's concentrating on the task at hand. Which, sure. Means he's not paying attention to possibly thumping his head on the ceiling.

At least not until the door shuts abruptly, and he whirls as well, almost knocking over a basket. ]

What the hell?
twistedjudge: (you're just a piece of work aren't you)

[personal profile] twistedjudge 2018-06-18 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
[The sound that comes out of Fang's throat can best be termed as a growl of frustration as she drops the basket she'd been carrying (the not-very-well-woven fronds burst open at that ungentle handling, but does it really matter, the vegetables are where they're supposed to be even if they're not supposed to be scattered across the floor) and crosses to the door in two long strides that would probably be more bounds if the ceiling was higher. There's no knob on the inside of this door, and Fang groans out loud as she realizes what must have happened.]

The door wedge must've slipped out and the damn thing shut behind us. I knew I should've made that rope latch. [It's hard to tell whether she's speaking to Steve or just herself, but the effect is the same. What's not hard to understand is when she glances around, obviously not finding what she's looking for, then meets Steve's gaze head-on.] You see some sort of axe lyin' around down here or should we just break it down?

[personal profile] ex_enlisted288 2018-06-18 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ His eyebrows shoot up. Growling of any sort tends to be a prelude to some sort of violence and this is a small space. Well, relatively small, considering his height and her height. There would be more space if smaller people were involved.

Not that it matters right now.

Steve crosses his arms, shifting his weight from foot to foot, just in case Fang decides to take out her frustration on the door. Or something else in the room. Like him. Not that he's looking for a fight, mind, but trouble does tend to come looking. For him, specifically.

He also takes a moment to look around, despite a reluctance to take his attention away from her, for the axe. ]

No axes in sight. You wanna kick the door or should I?

[ Ladies first and all. ]
twistedjudge: (try to make another move)

[personal profile] twistedjudge 2018-06-18 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
[The initial burst of irritation in Fang seems to have settled down into something more... constructive. Or, maybe 'destructive' is a better way to put it, because while the logical thing to do would just be to settle back and wait for someone to come around and let them out because someone is sure to do it sooner or later, Fang doesn't want to wait. She's apparently not a fan of confinement, and someone around'll be able to repair the door. It'll be fine.]

I'll take a jab at it, if you want. [She's strong, she knows she's a good fighter, and it's entirely possible she'll be able to dislodge the door without resulting to having the guy who just needs a wig to look like Snow try and bust through it. Possibly to Steve's surprise, though, the first thing she tries is more practical than her previous reaction would indicate: instead of just trying to smash it down, she turns side-on to the door and puts her shoulder against it, bracing in the correct position for someone about to run into something solid and/or heavy, and then powers forward with her entire leg length to ram straight into the wood with a thud, trying to either dislodge the latch or whatever physical object is blocking the door on the other side.] You better believe after this I'm puttin' that latch in if I have to cut a hole in this myself.
