The 3 rules of the TDM

• FULL VIEW - The Observers really do their best to make each villager's wrist device as user-friendly for them as possible, but with all new tech, sometimes there's a learning curve... And sometimes, you just screw up. Like now, when you've accidentally triggered the video option and called someone completely random on the network without realizing it. Yep, you're just going about whatever, totally oblivious. Here's to hoping that your clothes are fully on, and that the person on the other end is nice enough to speak up sooner rather than later.
• SHADOW OF A DOUBT - Being the intrepid (or just bored) villager you are, you've gone exploring and found yourself a very interesting (if moderately spooky) cave. What lurks in the dark? Might it be some shadow dust to turn you intangible? Or perhaps a cave wolf with all of its little goblin-monkey friends? Maybe, just maybe, it's both.
• ILL AT EASE - 'Tis the season for the common cold, and you've got it. Unfortunately, the village doesn't have a corner drug store, so you're achy, miserable, maybe a little feverish. The good news is a little time in bed should do the trick. That is, if you're not the sort who has to be bullied to take care of yourself anytime you get sick. Either way, maybe you'll be lucky enough to find someone to tuck you in and bring you some chicken soup.
• WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.
• NETWORK - All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text and video messages to other villagers. Text and/or video are allowed, any length. Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name.

It's not long after he enters that North sees the issue. The boy looks less than well, and damn if it isn't just his nature to immediately ignore his own need for a meal to beeline for the kid. He doesn't even hesitate to kneel by the chair the child is in and smile softly up at him.

"Hi there. My name's North. Do you mind if I touch your forehead to check your temperature?"

Miserable as he is, Five can still see this well-meaning yahoo sliding in on his periphery, his narrow gaze tracking the guy as he crouches down and puts on his most open and earnest face. Mr. Friendly is probably no more than 15 seconds away from calling Five 'Champ,' or some variation thereof.

Five does not turn his head, only regarding the man from the corner of his eye before shifting his gaze back to the flames.

"I can break every finger on your hand in approximately 3.5 seconds. Do not put them anywhere near my forehead or any other part of me," he calmly, if tersely replies.

Well... Now North is smiling a bit wider at that comment.

That possible, T?

I mean, Carolina could, or maybe if someone here had some serious enhancements from the Bunker but... No, not all of them.

"Well that's really comforting," he mumbles at his AI. But he still looks at the kid, standing up straighter now. "I'd advise you not do that. The difference between a cold, a flu, and a number of other things, can be gauged based on body temperature. I'm a trained field medic and while I may not play with sniffles much, I suggest you at least let me check this much out before I go get you some tea. Which you're going to drink."

Without even thinking he's switched from 'help a person who is sick' to 'help my asshole sister who is sick' which is a similar, but very different mode. Which had sometimes involved actual grappling and tying her to a bed. He's not really concerned.

"Besides, I expect you're hoping to fall back on skills you had before you got here to manage it that fast. I think it'd probably be, two, maybe three. I can survive."

"I'm curious, what part of what I just said translated into thinking I care who you are or what you do?" Five replies, his expression screwing up beneath his blankets, incredulous. The balls on this guy. "If you're applying to be my butler, though, I'm going to need at least three references, and pick up some chicken soup while you're at it." At the last remark, he rolls his pale eyes back to the fire, tugs his blankets closer. "Look at you, all big and dumb and talking about shit you know nothing about." It would almost make him nostalgic for Luther, if Luther wasn't big and dumb and given to talking about shit he knew nothing about.

Yeah, definitely like his sister. But he keeps smiling.

"Okay, we'll start with soup then. Don't know that we have chicken right now, but I seem to remember there was some vegetable broth yesterday. It's something."

That has him pushing to his feet. This kid was going to be a headache and a half, but hey, health before you pin down why the kid is a literal asshole. What are you going to do?

Five smiles right back, broad and sharklike, before abruptly dropping the charade with a muttered "Christ" as he watches the guy go. Idiots can sometimes be useful, but that doesn't make dealing with them any more tolerable, in his experience. Is there anyone out there who is capable of just offering an actual solution to his uncomfortable situation while keeping their mouth shut?

Mouth shut? No way in hell. Soon North has returned with a bowl of soup and a cup of hot tea. And still that smile and patience in place.

"It's not chicken. We don't have enough to use them for food right now. Eat up, okay? It's good for you. Do you have a bed? You shouldn't be out of it."

"And you shouldn't be harassing a man you don't even know, and yet here we are," Five replies, acerbic chirpiness blunted by how absolutely wretched he feels. He accepts the bowl because he's not stubborn enough to not see the sense in keeping up his strength, but the gaze that accompanies the motion is withering. "I don't need you telling me what the fuck to do, got it?"
