Test Drive 21 (October & November)

Test Drive
→ Holds and applications are always open. Holds are required for all applications.

→ Choose one of the scenarios below or make up your own. Feel free to try multiple scenarios.

→ Write LOGS or TEXT prompts, or both.

THERE ARE ONLY THREE RULES FOR THE TDM:
1. It has to take place in the 6I universe.
2. It cannot be the character's arrival into the game.
3. Please only test new characters who do not have a version in the game. Our cast list is here.

→ TDM threads cannot be used to meet AC, but if the character is accepted into the game and both players agree, you may keep the CR.

Character want ads are here.

Prompts

  1. STAYING POWER - Go down to the bunker, they said. You can get yourself amazing powers from the vending machine, they said. Well, you've done that, and you've made your choice, but one thing nobody told you was that unless it's a power you're familiar with, you might be on a teensy bit of a learning curve when it comes to keeping it under control. You have a week to figure it out without killing anyone; have fun!

  2. FORGIVE AND... - You poor thing, you've gotten into some dust moths. Not that you can remember that, because depending on how big that swarm was and how quickly you got out of it, you might not remember much at all. Better hope somebody's got some Forget Me Nots on hand.

  3. HIT & RUN - Life in the village can be pretty sleepy... until suddenly, it's not. Were you being a troublemaker? Were you disturbing the local wildlife? Because it's now disturbing you, chasing you down the street in front of everyone. Maybe it's a herd of chupapaca or a swarm of fireflies. Or maybe you went old school and it's just a really pissed off badger. Godspeed and good luck.

  4. WILDCARD - Choose your own adventure. Maybe play powers roulette.

Texts

All characters are fitted with a smart watch-like device on their left wrist, which they can use to send text messages to other villagers.

- Texts may only be 140 characters long
- No video or voice, text only
- Display names may be changed by characters on the fly, but anyone can tap to see someone's real full name

Please list your CHARACTER NAME, CANON & PROMPT in your SUBJECT LINE.

Using the forward momentum, Jacob catches himself on his other hand, pushing up and back to get to his feet and spin to face his adversary.

"That explains you grabbing a man out of nowhere and expecting him to help you," Jacob mutters, tugging at his jacket to get it settled right, dusting off his pants and trying to settle himself as if that matters more than the other man.

At length he looks up at him, curious. "You don't remember anything about arriving underground? Or drowning?" He himself had come that way and still hates it. "What do you last remember? Have you been wandering?"

He's heard stories of the creatures here and the things they can do, after all. Mostly the answer's been to avoid them as best he can. Perhaps not everyone has.

"Exactly!" Loki flashes a broad grin at her again. "Planets, dimensions, realms, universes... This is just another one, and since we came here, there must be a way to leave again, even if it's only back the way we came."

A snatch of conversation reaches his ears, and he abruptly holds a finger to his lips, and drops flat, inching up to the edge of the roof to listen.

I do know two people here and I like the cast size and AC - all making me go hmmmmmmmmmmm.

"The last thing I remember..."

It was a good and valid question. One that made him stop and truly think. His eyes narrowed, dimming the amber-yellow more toward brown. And though it took a few heartbeats, soon he was answering, "Trees. I remember trees, and... birds, or something else flying. I remember thinking the forest was too damp. And then I saw the town."

He'd felt sure someone had to know him, but he'd felt wary. And that wariness had led to...

He frowned. "My apologies for any injuries I've caused. They were not my intent. I... seem to react reflexively."

[personal profile] onesyllable 2018-10-22 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
"You can't go judging on Indian names," he points out, because that's obviously the important point there. "And yeah. I guess so. Place is weird, and you're not. Not like this," he says, finding more important things. Especially as Vasquez goes on, the important part becomes clear very quickly.

"Wait. Wait. Wait." He waves his hands about, frowning and so confused because he can't have this right. It can't be.

"You're living with this Bobo?" Because that's what he gets from staying with Vasquez and being allowed to stay. "So what? If your friend doesn't like me, I'm going to be thrown out? We fought together. Back to back."

Oh yes, that is important to him. Not just in being there for one another, but Vasquez was someone he trusts. He was there with him, thought he was there for him. And some ... some Bobo is just going to get him thrown out?

Vasquez shrugs, like he doesn't give a shit what he says about the Comanches (Red's not here to kill him, after all), but still, "Goodnight?" he reiterates with a disbelieving look, because fine, the Indians can have weird names, but Goodnight is not normal.

"Sure, I'm staying with him for warmth, but I have my own bedroom," he says. "And there's a third one, so you're coming with me," Vasquez insists, opening the door to the inn to head up to the room he's temporarily been in to fetch some cigarettes and a jacket. "You don't get rid of me that easily, querido."

"I- no. Should I?" Her head tilts to the side faintly, hands combing her hair out of her face as though she can scrub away the fog in her mind. "My- what?"

Son? Son. Dark hair, fair skin, lean frame, It could fit? It might fit.

What reason would she have to doubt save a vague sense she wouldn't make for a comforting mother? "I- I don't know. I was in the forest for...some reason. I can't recall."

Hunting? Gathering? There'd been a spear she'd used for a walking stick until she lost interest in holding onto it.

Loki frowns, and solicitously offers his arm.

I'd assume you were fucking with me if I hadn't learned to just take everything here at face value.

But I know my mythology well enough to not accept candy from gods of chaos. More than once, anyway, and I've been to two Burning Mans, so someone beat you to that one.

Maybe it's a new twist on this place, to take memories and lead people without an idea of what's happening. Seems it might make more sense than so many spending their time trying to figure out who, why, and what? Though he imagines it might mean a lot more time reminding them what an axe is.

He supposes dead victims don't suit as well as living ones.

Which means he's run into something here that causes this, hopefully, momentary lapse in memories.

"Takes a bit more than that to damage me," he says, waving a hand. "So long as the jacket's fine, and I'm not limping, I'm sure I'll be fine." And not feel the need for retribution. At least not until he figures out how this man handled him so well.

"So way I see it, you wandered out a bit, probably ate some mystical mushrooms or the like, and now you're stranded. I mean, logically with this place, you should get them back eventually. Unless you've done yourself severe damage, in which case..."

He shrugs, not sure what he could do. "Oh! There's a clinic. Might be able to help." He doesn't sound at all convinced of that though.

"Really? Damn the lack of powers then. My sister's a mage." Bethany would hate to be in a place without her magic, despite the fact that magic's been a bane for her and the others. But it's a part of her, or so she'd say. Hawke tries to think of a clever way to get rid of the moths. She hooks a finger at him and dodges to the right, pivoting to see how long they'd follow zig zaggers.

She's used to running for her life so this is like old times. "It's not the insects, otherwise I'd hear everyone complaining about them. However we're here, it was done at the time. I heard some rumors about something called clones, never heard of it before, but that's one of the ongoing theories." Hawke saw demons mimicking humans, but not duplicating humans.

Loki zags while she zigs, actually, and that seems to confuse the moths enough for them to gain some distance. It leaves an unfortunate quantity of dust in the road behind them. Oops. Oh well.

"I doubt we're clones," he says, shaking his head.
championofsnark: (hiding smile)

but also come to us just saying ;)

[personal profile] championofsnark 2018-10-22 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The dust could very well be helpful, it isn't a bad way to cover tracks. Hawke looks around to try and see if they could hide. It'd be pointless to climb a tree, they could fly, and she didn't know of any caves. Oh! She had an idea.

"Follow me." She'd been here long enough to get a sense of the place. She might be doing fine so far, but sooner or later she was going to need to breathe. "I don't know, can't think of any theories myself." Hawke's running with specific tunnel vision now, and she doesn't really warn him. She's led them right to one of the deeper parts of the river and jumped in without a moment's hesitation. Clothes can dry. Crazy insects probably can't.

I see your convo with Jacob player join usssss

Hawke blinks at the man and then chuckles. "So what, we're meant to be here? Somebody kidnapped us from our worlds and brought us here, and it's divine intervention?" She wouldn't be surprised if gods or some powerful whoevers did intervene. Who else had this kind of power? "Hmmm. I did always have a mix of extraordinary and horrible luck. I'm taken here against my will, yeah, but I was also about to die." She's rather accepting of that fact, even if she'd been slightly terrified at the time. Death had been nipping at her heels for a long while.

She wonders if Varric managed to tell everyone. They'd been spread out. What Bethany might have said, being the very last of their family left alive. It wasn't a question that occurred to her when she sacrificing herself. Too many seconds spent in that question was shaken off quickly. Yuck. Bad thoughts. Shake it off, Hawke. "There's a lot of interesting people here to learn from, if that's your thing."

Clinic.

He had to consider the word. For some reason, the mere idea had him cringing, had his stomach clenching, but he couldn't remember why. The fact that this man (he was oddly familiar in a way, something about how he moved) didn't seem convinced either only made it worse. He shook his head. "I'll find my way without the... clinic."

The distrust went deep. He'd have to think about why when--

If. He could remember again.

"I'll have to hope my memories return," he half-muttered. "I've no patience for the Hospitaliers." And then he was lifting his hand as if to tug at something about his head, and muttering another curse when his hand found nothing.

Altaïr held up a hand. "I cannot speak for everyone, but I have every reason to believe I am meant to be here. Perhaps your own worlds have reasons. Mine, in my view, was clear. Perhaps you were meant to come to continue your life. Perhaps one world saw that you had run your course there and another found need of you. I cannot say. I can only speak for myself.

"But you are far from wrong in what you have said. The number of people here, their different worlds - there is much for me to learn. Though I doubt there is enough that I could teach to make the exchange balanced."

Though, now, he wondered. He had kept secrets of Masyaf and the Assassins for a reason - more than one. But now, he was to be their mentor. Didn't he have the right to challenge those secrets? To reveal them, if he saw fit?

Something else to consider.

[personal profile] onesyllable 2018-10-22 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Benign. Giant lizard dogs are a lot of things, but not benign." Even if he's not entirely sure what that word means, but he has a good guess from how she's talking hunting dogs for them.

"Yeah, that would mean having my gun would be nice, but I don't," he says, which is crankiness at that and not at all for her. "How you going to take out more than one with that thing?"

[personal profile] onesyllable 2018-10-22 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, Goodnight was not weird," he says. "Now Billy calling him Goody? I mean, not surprised that Billy's the husband there but..." But come on. Goody is a girl's name. A woman's name. Historically even.

And he's cranky now and unhappy. More than that, he's angry at himself for caring. Not about Goody and Billy, but about Vasquez and... Bobo.

"Where the hell did you get the idea I was trying to get away. Way I see it, you're the one that walked away for a year." Which is cruel, since he doesn't know that Vasquez had no choice, and had gone through hell because of it. "But sure. Fine. That works for me." Because that's the only choice there is. He's not giving up Vasquez. This is his call.

And then before Loki can answer, they're plunging into pleasantly cold water, and oh yeah, that's a good idea! He flashes his new friend a thumbs-up, and points downstream before starting to swim himself.

He's not terribly buoyant, but he's not a bad swimmer at all.
