Desmond shrugs because that means he really has nothing to offer in comparison. All his skills were learned from Altair, Ezio, Haytham (ugh), and Connor. So what he could give back is a big question mark, unless it's teaching them how to lighten up already. Which is not even something he can do now because this is the most he's been lightened up in awhile.
