He really didn't want to relive all the worst parts of their time together, but honestly, that was all it was in the end. Because none of the rest of it turned out to be real. He thought she saved him. That was how he saw her. His savior, from his lock up. He was such a damn fool. Her beauty and her determination drew him in. She would have succeeded, given the chance.
