Staying Power

It was actually not an unfamiliar concept to Kassandra to learn a new ability from a strange machine. True, it looked very different to the devices with the sparkling lights that were hidden in the depths of tombs across Hellas, and she had to do more to make it do what she wanted, but she thought she'd worked it out.

Who knew all that time chasing artefacts for Atlantis would be so useful here?

The difficulty was choosing which power she wanted. Many of them could be useful here. Many of them would have been useful in her quest across Hellas, too. Shooting fire from her eyes would be useful, but so would super strength or teleportation.

"How am I supposed to choose just one?"

Hit and Run

"Malaka!"

If she'd had Ikaros with her, this wouldn't have happened. Ikaros would have told her there was a pack of wolves in the clearing she was headed for, and she could have chosen another path. Or prepared herself for a fight, but even Kassandra wasn't feeling ready for a fistfight with an entire wolf pack, since her spear had apparently stayed in Hellas with her eagle.

So Kassandra of Sparta, Eagle-Bearer, misthios and bane of the Cult of Kosmos, was running through the forest with the snapping of wolves at her heels. She was good at running; she'd been working on it all her life, and unlike most Spartans, she'd never been too proud to run away from a fight when it was too much for her to handle.

She kept an eye on the trees approaching, and when she saw one tall and strong enough, she ran at it, reaching out to grab and swing her way up into the branches, and she kept climbing. She'd learned the limits of wolves' abilities to climb after their prey when she was but a girl.

"Watch out!" she called out when she saw someone approaching. "There are wolves tracking me!"
