Truthfully, Bruce might be overly cautious, but he's also not wrong. Rhodey gives him a sidelong look that's half smirk and half rueful smile. There's been times when he and Tony haven't been irrevocably attached, and he knows that someone else was the steady hand then, and that sometimes it was Bruce. The caution - it's not a bad thing.

"The risk is what's pushing me to get better control of it." It makes sense in his head, at least. "I don't want it to go haywire," which is Rhodey-speak for not wanting anyone to get hurt, "so it makes me a little more quick on my feet. Besides, I'm trusting that you can move fast when you have to, BB."
